Getting the Most out of the Incursor Squad
I'll be honest with you guys I bought a box of 10 of these guys back in 9th edition and have been in love with their tactical crocs and stupid visors ever since.
Anyway this time we will talk about this unit in the space marine codex. I've not gone in depth on the different detachments as they tend to operate the same regardless. This will be a broad overview but is inside the context of the Warhammer 40k Pariah Nexus rule set.

Looking at this tech choce for warhammer 40k. The Captian in terminator armour is a durable action monkey that many people have collecting dust after getting him in the Leviathan box. But is he a diamond in the rough?

The second in our serise focussing on Codex Space Marines in 10th Edition Warhammer 40k. Going for a breakdown of the characters and which units from the basic codex are worth bringing to the tabletop. The meta is always evolving so things might change with the next update but I think these datasheets are fairly settled given the age of the codex. Obviously these units and combos are available ...

Warhammer 40k Space Marine Forgotten Hero's: Iron Father Feirros

The continuation of our warhammer 40k Space Marine serise. Focusing on the epic hero profiles that are often left in the pile of datasheets. This time we're looking at Iron Father Feirros from the very creative Iron Hands chapter. Despite the Ironstorm Spearhead detachment being popular this guy is rarely seen.

Space Marines Forgotten Heroes: Pedro Kantor

The first in a new series we're trying out looking into the less popular Warhammer 40k Space Marine datasheets. Specifiaclly the epic heroes. This time it's Pedro Kantor, I have a fondness for this character going back to 5th Edition and his awsome book Rynn's World. Hopefully this should be a breezy look at his data sheet and what he can bring to the table as the Chapter Master of the Dorn's U...

A quick video about the fun new Tyranids update in the June 2024 balance dataslate. Good stuff for the bugs but will it be enough? Not played to many games of warhammer with the bugs but feel like these changes are a great direction for them.

New Votann Yaegirs

Short video discussing the new unit for Leagues of Votann and how they will change the army.
When I was picking an army for 10th, I knew I wanted to go back to CSM, and I read deeper into the WBs lore. I was aware of them and knew what they were about, but found them to be so much more interesting than I'd thought. Also, they just look bad ass AF
I think they work okay with Dread Talons. Dread Talons are good at making units unable to use stratagens because of battleshock. These guys add to that.
I think they are fine in Dread Talons but if you have already battleshocked a unit then making them unable to use stratagems is redundant. Perhaps you are right though as these guys could be used to hit anyone who passed the battle shock test so your opponent would have 0 chance to play stratagems?
@NorthernMonkeighs I played Dread Talons into Tau once and shut off most of the army with battleshock. These guys could shut down the rest. Also if you need to win a point these guys will keep an enemy from using Insane Bravery to auto succeed battleshock.
Even with dread talons BShck, the units you want to charge/trade with dont really need the target to be battleshocked on the turn that they're charged. The only real bonus is to stop defesive stratagems, which is huge sometimes. (And +1 ap strat, which is meh) So having these units around to shut down defensive strats means your other targeted battleshock stuff; noise marines, firebrand, raptors, demons etc, can target other things that you want to shoot and use the actual damage buff stratagem pitiless hunters for full re rolls to hit and wound with your obliterators/Havocs etc. Also, think about the combo of preventing any fallback and do something stratgems. This with the talons strat merciless pursuit, being able to charge something that does fall back. Now, if you've positioned other units ready to use the strat, they are locked in combat there and also can't use fallback strats on the other side of the board
They are one of those legions where they work great sometimes and other times they are just loony tunes evil, but it makes sense both ways given the fact they are zealots
Word Bearers make for good villains. They are completely insane but lucid enough to be terrifying and logical/methodical in their actions. Fundamentally id argue they represent one of the largest threats to the Imperium if not the biggest because they act as a total antithesis to the Imperial faith which they created themselves. Like yeah Thousand Sons are smart and competent but they dont represent an exestential threat to the Imperium itself, The World Eaters while dangerous dont really threaten to convert your populations they just want to kill them mostly. The Death Guard while scary are kinda limited by being smelly boys and that doesnt really appeal to everyone. I think fundamentally the Word Bearers represent one of the larger chaos threats to the Imperium because on top of their military prowess the have a philsophical/religious and metaphysical conflict going on waging war for the souls of Imperial citizens themselves and then in addition to this they have an exacting knowledge of Chaos and deamons to use them as a weapon. I mean for all of Abbadons bluster I feel like his war is more personal, its motivated by the fact hes buttmad about stuff that went on during the Great Crusade and wants an Imperium of his own while Chaos is just a means to an end. To the Word Bearers Chaos is the end and everything else is the means to that end. In that I may not exactly like the Word Bearer's but I appreciate the flavour they bring to the setting as being really great villains due to the sheer majesty of fucked up shit they do and that all of it is motivated by a religious ethos thats bigger than themselves. No other Chaos legion or warband can really say they are fighting for some kind of idea or mad quest, or religious apotheosis. All the Chaos legions are like butt hurt about something or fighting the Imperium because they want to fight and are just crazy due to corruption or nails in the brain or whatever. The Word Bearers willingly want Chaos, and while being utter fucking lunatics and evil there is still a sense of logic there that make them tremendously competent and dangerous to fight against. On top of that literally everything is within their arsenal as they fight like a mix of Thousand Sons, Alpha Legion, and Iron Warriors. I mean can you imagine dealing with an enemy where first step they will use is Subversion and then on the battle field if it gets to that point they are using a mix of magic, human waves, and deamons/deamon machines against you coupled with a competent super solider military force? If you ever read the Word Bearer trilogy its pretty awe inspiring to comprehend the level of planning and complexity in their orchestrated war effort coupled with the flavour that they are all extreme religious zealots. The Word Bearers might only be second to the black legion in terms of the sophistication of the threat they provide but the Black Legion only has that due to them being a mixed bag of different legions and warbands all working together for Abbadon, so they all bring their unique training to the field from their original state and then they plan on how to best use their differing specialties to a common cause. The Word Bearers essentially have that layer on their own as being optimized for warfare on basically every level and then on top of that basically have the best of the best in just about every field imaginable. The Night Lords or Iron Warriors are probably not going to have the best Sorcerers on their side, the Death Gaurd are not going to have knowledge or application of Tzeentchian or Khornate stuff while their tech options are likely going to be sub par or specialized towards plague crap. World Eaters dont have magic and are limited in their warfare approach. Other legions just have limited numbers or some kind of jarring weakness due to extreme specialization. The Word Bearer's specialization is that they are basically good at everything, they have high tier machines on their side and deamon engines, they have a large mostly cohesive legion that fights towards a common goal, they are not rife with mutation, these guys are not so insane that they become self destructive, they have lots of resources at their disposal and are arguably the most knowledgeable about Chaos itself besides maybe the Thousand sons however the scale of the threat the Word Bearers posses completely eclipses the thousand sons. I would say fundamentally the most dangerous and respectable aspect of the the Word Bearers is that besides say the Iron Warriors as a legion dedicated to fucking Chaos, madness and exploiting powers that are well extremely dangerous and Chaotic their discipline and self awareness in managing this issue is second to none. Like imagine somone who managed to kinda merge the idea of being a wizard, a super solider and a rapid dog with modern mechanized warfare and dealing with malevolent interdimensional entities and making them your bitch in order to kill your enemies better is just fucking cool.
I like wordbearers as a concept. They feel like the antithesis of ultramarines, also my favorite loyalists so far. Where every faction has their specialities or quirks, both persevere through unity, though they go about it in different ways. Ultramarines have faith in unity, where prosperity is the goal and everyone strives for that. Word bearers though is unity in faith, where vindication through belief is the goal and everyone just sort of gathers under the same ideology. Either way neither have anything special compared to other chapters so they both get underdog energy by default.
Cool perspective for sure, I think both being rivals while being so alike is interesting
Emmmm ? Erm? Who likes word bearers? Please show me those 3 fans in the entire fan base
I know 2 of the 3, must be somthing in the water here!
Holy molly you did a long video on them in a interview like way.
Bit of a different format to usual, honestly we could have talked for another hour or two there's so much to talk about.
I personally found that Deathwing terminators in inner circle task force with the turn 1 deepstrike enhancement on a captain can actually be quite good. Its the absolute best case I have found for them. Basically against anything other than a pure melee beatstick army, I deepstrike them turn 1 in cover, far foward blocking either a side objective or right in the middle(depends on the shooting threat). I can use 3 inch deepstrike if needed. Then shoot off some infiltrator units or scouts. In his next turn, he generally moves up to focus fire the big terminator brick in front of him. I pay 1CP for Armor of contempt, use the captain for the free strat with -1 to wound. While being in cover that means I am AP-2 and -1 to wound. This makes any shooting so inneficient. The opponent expect to take the unit out. But he will not ( you can do some maths on it, it takes an asbolutely ridiculous amount of firepower to take out. I generally have 6-7 terminators left with the captain right in the soft belly of my opponent. Which boxes them in their deployment zone while the terminators chew through the enemies, while also being safer from shooting due to melee. I have tested this 6 times now against good players and it has been a huge success every single time.
Bit overkill but running a 10 man with a librarian and optionally an ancient on the LAG detachment seems like a fantastic “fuck whatever is in front of us” ball. Add the fights first enhancement, 5+++ against mortal wounds and advance charge/shoot and you cover every major weakness this unit has.
Yeah I didn't talk about stuff outside of the marine codex but that would be pretty amazing all around, love the sustained hits buff
Good idea. Thinking outside of the box.
Thanks Rob!
Infantry next
Tor Garadon and Kayvaan need videos!
1st!
The shadow in the warp -1 to battleshock, only works for the shadow in warp battleshock test. Not every battle shock. Its says every time a unit takes “such” a battleshock test. Implying only the ones called from shadow in the warp. That is the general consensus so far. Gw might clarify this later.
Good to know, crazy they have made the wording so vague
100 points would be perfect
