Engine Room Checks While Underway
Переглядів 492 роки тому
When underway always conduct regular engine room inspections. In this case salt buildup on main engine exhaust hose indicated loose hose clamps allowing raw seawater to accumulate rather than be expunged overhead. Easy fix to tighten hose clamps. If exhaust hose fitting were to separate from engine exhaust the main engine raw water used to cool the exhaust would empty directly into the bilge an...

      It's quite likely akin to decapitating a chicken. Meaning that although the chicken may flap it's wings or kick it's legs maybe even run around, the chicken isn't suffering. It's just how the nervous system works.

    • @Hello-ep2fx
      @Hello-ep2fx 2 роки тому

      @@thebigcheese8715 you behead a chicken which removes the brain, which means it only walks around for a few secs if don’t correctly. They removed the lobsters lower half so this doesn’t make sense. I’m more against that fact that how is this advantageous to eating a lobster. You boil them alive so bacteria doesn’t accumulate inside them. I don’t eat seafood so this is all curiosity rather than rudeness.

      @LoL-sp3wu 2 роки тому

      @@thebigcheese8715 It's one thing to decapitate an animal and another pulling it apart and splitting it in half. The first is a quick death the other is not and the lobster is probably still alive even after he cut it in half.

    Significant, it's burning oil. Worst case it's a full rebuild due to o rings or head gasket. Best case, Make sure you don't have too much oil in the engine and if you do....then drain it to the appropriate amount, pull the spark plugs and clean or replace them and run it till it stops smokink

    As a professional Mariner and a Merchant Marine engineer of over 45 years one of those jobs that I've always been tasked with is winless operation during anchoring procedures this video was well done one of the most common things I've seen amongst non-professional Mariners quote Weekend Warriors is a total lack of understanding of what it takes to properly anchor and secure a vessel good job with you video

    Nice video. That's how I've been taught to do it and it works. However I was out with friends who argued that you should run a dock line through the hawser and attach the dock line to the cleat. The dock line is apparently much easier to untie in high tide conditions. They own a catamaran, so maybe it's different for them than a monohull. Thoughts?

    • @newportcoastmaritimeacademy
      @newportcoastmaritimeacademy 3 роки тому

      Great tip! You're friends are spot on! Running a dock line thru the eye of the mooring line and securing it as a bridle does make the mooring line easier to adjust and/or release with tide changes. We didn't present it in the video as this is a beginners course. lol Thx for the input!
