I have now broken 2 notched threading wires, and once it got jammed in the looper and i ended up breaking the looper and having to buy and install a new one. When you put the wire in where should the handle be? Should the nipple be at the highest point?

Bring the nipple up to its highest point. Your needle should be just above the surface of the fabric. Adjust the height from there after making a few test stitches.

Pretty cool about C&W, hadn't heard of them. As to the illustrations, resellers like C&W et al (I think SupSew aka Superior Sewing predominates these days domestically) used whatever illustrations the manufacturer of the attachment provided or in the case of the most common parts (like feet) with many producers, illustrations from the [Federal Standard] FedStd 751-a were used (now a free download; your tax dollars at work. I had to pay $48 for the hard copy) because there's no copyright on federal publications. Later on, ASTM picked up responsibility for FedStd 751-a, and gussied up some of the illustrations but the original work remains in the public domain. Some of the illustrations you showed were from the newer ASTM work (D6193) but the copyright on that data set has been stomped on so many times; most of those set loose in the wild via American & Efird's wildly popular brochure... but ~sigh~ I digress. The first illustrations you showed came from Union Special and was the first [what came to be known as] "Service Line", iow, a book that grouped a machine manufacturer's product line in accordance with product types, illustrating the specific machine needed for whichever step in the O/O (order of operations). I'll digress here a bit because I think it is extremely important particularly because we've lost so much institutional knowledge but the Union Special book was the first of its kind and in fact was a very ambitious project to both teach and sell. The illustrations taken from this particular book were "call-outs" and probably used with permission. I tried to find this book online but it didn't crop up; so I cheated and peaked at the review I posted on my site; the book is called _Garment Construction Guide_, I liked it quite a bit. Fwiw, Union Special had published an earlier book in 1921, shorter page count (102pp) and it's in the public domain, available on the LOC archive site for download. The earlier book, _Manual of work garment manufacture_ is interesting for many reasons least of which that it was written before formal seam and stitch classifications had been developed. There's a whole history there and for which you will or should thank me for not getting into that (!). I confess I didn't watch your whole video, I guess I just got excited that young people were interested in this sort of thing. I'll be back.

We have had all sorts of makes and models of machines come through the shop. Bootlegs, Knockoffs, pristine museum quality originals that look like they were never used. We dont sign off on machines from any vendors aside from ourselves. There are so many tiny variables that can make or break a machine of any quality and price point. A seemingly immaculate singer can have unseen issues that make it a $5000 boat anchor.
