"Sweet Hot Rods & Honey"
Hello, my name is Daryl Voorhees and I'm a retired engineer and gearhead that need projects to keep busy. My passion is to bring back old broken down cars and trucks to their original condition or better. Most of the time I transition the vehicle into a Street Rod or something custom. It's simple, I love to rebuild old rusty stuff !!!
The channel isn't intended for "How to do something", its intent is for informational and entertainment purposes. Mainly for the project that I'm working on I'm and how I do it. I'm a 100% DIY person. Sometimes it works out, sometimes not. The main projects are classic car restorations and hot rod/muscle car builds. Been working on hot rods, classic cars and daily drivers since I was a kid in the late 60s. I love DIY and can trust myself more than some of the shops that I’ve dealt with. That’s an innate characteristic of an engineer.
Message me to send me stuff.

First Start of Dan's 36 Chevy LS Swap
Переглядів 185Місяць тому
Today we are going to my good friends Dan's house to do a first engine start of his new 36 Chevy Sedan restomod build. The chassis and 6.0Liter LQ4 is ready for the first start since the engine rebuild. We downloaded and modified the PCM/ECU program to remove unneeded DTC codes and delete the NO-VATS. We had a little hiccup due to a bad ground at the starter, but fixed it by sanding off some of...

2013 Avalon Transmission Filter & Fluid
During the filming of this video I didn't realize the oil leak on the rear of the engine. Since then I dropped the oil pan and resealed the rear of the oil pan to the back plate. Tested again and still a big#$^(*!@ leak coming from the back of the engine. Now I have to pull out the tranny and finally see where the problem is. Other than that the engine starts and runs well. This oil leak is a real pan in the a$$ and is holding me up from doing other stuff on the truck.
When I was a child my dad had a 1949 F1 one ton, flat head straight six 4 speed, not a scratch on it, had 17 in. tires and he couldn't get more.
Sounds like my 1995 diesel
Looks like a good pressure for a chevy
Yes it went up to 40# during idle.
was one tube enough for the whole job then?
Yes. It was more than enough. It was really messy though
Harbor Freight has some nylon trim tools that helped me. Inexpensive. Nice 55 buddy.
Thank you
You should have tried at 205 sealer. Lol
A bet there was a couple swear words till you got the gasket on. Lol
Yes and I’m still cursing about the gasket sealer.
This was a dumb assumption on my part, but I realized I should have removed the original wires from the ECU to the AC Compressor for the clutch control and used the clutch control wiring from the Vintage Air kit. The ECU no longer controls the AC system at all. The Vintage Air compressor control wire is a single wire with either 12V to enable the AC clutch or 0V which disables the clutch. The other wire to the compressor is a ground wire.
Good job! My only concern.. Blue tape can be your best friend as to not scratch paint during install.
Back goes in from inside fromt goes in from outside. I'm right here in Md. A phone call away I have 7 of these trucks.
Nice to waste money.why didn't you get the rim fixed and straightened? They do amazing things..
I still have the rim and tire on it so I will be getting it fixed and straightened
Slapp’n glass…love it. Done about a half dozen of these, never with out extra help but you pulled it off.
27:00 Why is his Avalon so loud🤔
sounds like a huge paper shredder
Is it my imagination, but am I holding the spray gun too far from the surface?
Thanks for all your videos (especially on your 55) They`re great for us at home garage builders.
Thanks Patrickfinn. I do enjoy it. Hopefully these videos help and inspire others to work on their projects.
Beautiful car,Wonderful videos
After test driving for a few miles I saw that the steering wheel was off-center. Removed the upper connection and realigned the spline. The steering wheel is now straight when going down the road. Also, the rattle is gone and the wheel turn is smooth. Another successful fix of my daily driver. Thanks for watching
Let me give you some advice next time you polish you want to put a mask on.... You should never be inhaling polished materials. And that's your polish job? It should look like a mirror.
Maybe change the color of the text but true
I'm very happy that the intake manifold fits on the engine block just fine, but there are a few misc things that have to be delt with to make it all work. I have heard stories from one UA-cam channel that the manifold flexes under load and eventually cracks the weld joints on the runners. Hopefully that isn't the case. So we'll see.
Like your work a lot. Just curious however as to how high your ceiling in your garage is to support a lift like you have? Thanks

Man your doing an amazing job 👏
Thank you
Gasket hook tool Snap-on PN 55-57 $354.95 (Its a joke)
Maybe not.
I heard you're in Maryland what area
Have you tried BRANDYWINE?
People who post videos without posting the engine size should have a ghost pepper jammed up their tailpipe
I'm getting older, and to see these beautiful places is very important to me. 🌳
Yes as I get older, I also appreciate these beautiful places too. I'm thankful that our fore-fathers made legislation to preserve the tranquil beauty. Thanks for watching. Please see Part 2 of our trip. UA-cam cut it off prematurely at 55 minutes.
Car looks and sounds great is that a small block and Im looking to put a cam in mine. What cam are you running? I have a 327 with fuely heads 11:1 pistons with a stock cam too quiet tired of it after many years,LOLL. I commented awhile back on your windshield install..... regards Glenn
They usually mind they own business! 😊
Loving the series, got a 51 f1 project myself. I am wanting to do all the things that you have done, mustang 2 front end, killmat on interior, lED headlamps and more. Ive got a built 351 windsor for mine. Your series has given me a lot of great insight on doing the things that I want. KEEP IT GOING! cant wait to see this thing finished!
I’m so glad that my videos are giving inspiration to others like you. Good luck with your project. It’s a lot of work but in the end it’s well worth it.
This is how people are supposed to live. Cities are for breeding rat people. Look at city people.
I have to get the 34 out of the garage and get it on the road, or just sell it. I haven't been driving it but someone should enjoy it.
I get that feeling of wanting to get at least SOMETHING done on your vehicle, even after a hard day. Kilmat definitely sound deadens the panels so outside noise will penetrate the cabin less. What it won't do, is stop the echo of sound inside the cabin. Need some good open cell foam for sound absorption for that. Love the truck by the way! I'm working on an 86 F-150. One of those mini-rollers really help to make sure the kilmat adheres fully.
Thanks for the advice. I’ll be using closed cell foam for the door panels base with suede cloth and carpet. So that should work to help deaden the sound. Good luck with your F150 project
Have you ever used a pinch weld primer before starting the installation?
No, I don’t have a pinch welder and have never used one but that would be pretty useful. I only have a meg welder and every time I weld it’s like I’m a beginner again. Thank goodness for grinders.
Pinch weld primer paint before the windshield goes in.
I used a Hot nail (Finishing nail heated with a torch) to pop the hole through the seal. No worry about hitting the edge of the glass with the drill bit.
Thats why you run a wire from the R terminal on the solenoid to the + coil.
Save the f1 complete brakes, backing plates, hubs, drums, upper shock mount, steering column and box. Hot rodders love that stuff, and it’s getting hard to find.

Chevy motor don’t belong in fords 😢
maybe, but that's what I'm doing.
nice work, how long did it take to put in? Iam getting ready to do this myself and just trying to plan approximately the time frame. thanks in advance
Still early in my ‘55 Nomad project. My frame is a bit on the rough side but when the body comes off (and it has to to) I’m going install one of those kits that moves the leaf springs directly under the frame rails. I’m also going to ditch the original Chevrolet rear end (which leaks like crazy and has 4:11 gears) for a Ford 9”. This should give me room for a bigger tire.
Making good progress
There's a small amount of risk by not doing the proper fill procedure. There are reports of some Toyotas being underfilled of the ATF fluid from factory so just doing drain and filling what came out is slightly risky. Granted, I think I can only find reports of Tacoma's from Mexico being underfilled from factory, but it could happen with the Avalons too. Likely? No. But possible.
@hothmobile100 Thanks for the heads up on that point. I always like to see exactly how much crank oil is in the engine and how much is the tranny but without having an expensive diagnostic tool or a dip stick in this case, it's the only method that I know of.
I agree but may I add that being on a level surface at the right oil temperature and the oil start dribbling at that moment oil level is at the right range taking in consideration you overfill a bit to assure such therefore avoiding underfill or overfill
I change the filter and transmission fluid on my plow trucks be every other year or when they reach 20,000 miles , since I started this practice which is over 10 years now I haven’t had one transmission related issue. Inexpensive way to save a $3500.00 break down with a work truck or daily driver . Thanks for sharing. RR
I run 15 x 8 wheels with 235 60 15 tires on my 1957 convertible with zero rubbing issues and the original rear end. Think they will fit on your 55 chevy as well but when you lift it to install the wheels and tires lift both sides by the frame and not the diff or leaf springs so the axel drops down far enough to mount them. I did NOT have to pull the leaf spring bolts. Also if your 3 fingers are as wide as mine "2 & 1/4" inches the 15 x 8 is only 1 inch wider than the 15 x 7 so you would still have 1 & 1/4 inches of clearance. The 15 x 8 looks a LOT better!
I was fortunate that the hood on my 52 F1 was in pretty decent shape, I’ve owned mine for over fifteen years. Looks like it had quite a bit of frame work updating. Always nice to see old Ford F1 being worked on . I just subscribed to follow along. Shawn RR
