I have an older EQ-6R Pro mount without the USB port. For those other owners with the same mount, looking for a solution, get the Pegasus Astro EQDIR USB Stick w/DB-9 Adapter cable. I bought mine through High Point Scientific, $47.52+tax. It plugs into the hand set port on the mount and to a USB2 port on the ASIAir. When you put your mount info into ASIAir (I have the Plus), select EQ Mod and set the baud at 9600. I get such a kick operating my mount with my smart phone via the ASIAir.

Have you by any chance managed to get SkySafari to drive the EQ6-R Pro when it is being controlled by ASI Air?

Appreciate the video. Be aware that as of 9/2023 [or maybe earlier] the Takahashi kit does not work as described. The 35 mm screws are now 40 mm long so you either have to use a s$itload of washers, cut the screw or buy shorter screws. The install on my Esprit 120 has been pretty tough actually. The spindle holder did not fit well into the focuser so it was tough to get it tightened onto the spindle without it locking up. I know Starizona has a pre-fit holder but it is back-ordered for who knows how long, right? Overall a PIA [and not yet done].

does this cable also work with an NEQ6 Mount? or do they have different ports?

Thanks for the video and for finding that script… I will be looking into that. Question of how you dealt with the JWST six filter images being different resolutions? that is tripping me up. Three of the “i2d” images are about 50% of the resolution of the other three.

Really appreciate the simpler workaround. But I could not get it to work. I was using the Cartwheel Galaxy (PGC 2248) NIRCAM JWST images but could not get any colour at all, just black-white. Followed your process accurately as possible. Tried i a few times. Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Thank you so much for the bonus footage/information here. I was using my EdgeHD 8 to do some visual work on Jupiter and would have it in focus with the reducer, but when I removed the reducer and tried to focus (with the EAF still) it would go past the 60000. But I knew it had more space still. I think changing the zero position or like you mentioned the 1/2 way position is going to prove to be a good starting point for my troubleshooting. Thanks again!

Just tried a new (purchased March 2022) AZ-EQ5 Pro with ASIair Pro (just updated to latest firmware) still no connection via USB. But EQDIR cable works. Tried my EQ6-R Pro also (that mount was purchased September 2021) and same, USB doesn't connect but EQDIR cable does. Looks like I need to pick up a second EQDIR to use both at the same time.

Thanks super helpful video. Got cable from Amazon and now ASIAIR connects to mount. Am newbie so have a few basic questions, now that mount is connected to ASIAIR pro can I polar align and 3 star align directly from ASI air pro or do I need to do that with hand controller and then plug mount into ASI air pro (?)

Thank you!!! This video is awesome! Exactly the help I needed, specially for pixinsight in my case. A couple of questions related to the pixinsight, dedicated astrocam workflow: 1. One you add your folders with the session tag do you then manually add the darks as well but without a session? 2. Is there anything else needed to produce a single stacked image off the back of running? Sorry if these are noob questions… I find pixinsight mind-bogglingly complex!!

Thanks for the great video 👍 I have the same setup EAF on my Esprit and ASIAIR plus. Like you my focus on my Esprit is around 6. However i am finding the ASIAIR autofocus is a bit off. Can I kindly ask please what your autofocus step size is? I have went from the default 30 to 10 and it’s better but not perfect.

Thanks for the video. There was no way I was going to drill into the fucusser plate so being able to use the Tak bracket is perfect. Picked one up from Agena Astro. The photo on the website showed what is presumably the older design with 5 slots but the model that arrived has 8 slots like your video shows. Also the Tak bracket came with 2 x M4 x 35mm bolts so I didn't even need to buy these seperately. Thanks again.

That bracket appears to be one piece. What part # is that. ZWO sells brackets for Taks but they are 2 piece. Is that manufactured by Tak or ZWO? Thanks

Hi, I have an EQ6R Pro - bought March of 2020, it has an USB port - and got an ASIair Pro some days ago. When I tried to connect AAP and the mount first time with an USB A-B cable, it did not work. Then I changed mount type to EQMOD AND the baud rate to 115200 and the connection immediately became stable. There was nothing else to do. Is it possible that I was lucky or did something right? :) Have a clear sky!

I received my EQ6-R Pro on September 4th and I purchased an EQMOD cable in advance of delivery. I was under the impression (and apparently incorrectly so) that the latest ASIAIR Pro update was supposed to resolve the incompatibility issue. I tried to get the usb connection to work with no success, but the EQMOD cable worked great. Do you know if the compatibility issue was resolved in the latest ASIAIR Pro update? TIA.

Hi, firstly my thanks for this extremely helpful video which is exactly the same image and OAG train and components that I want to use. Edge C8, ZWO OAG, ZWO ASI174MM mini mono and with and without the Celestron Reducer. Unfortunately I have emailed Starizona about the Adapter you are using but have had no responses. I am in UK so could you please give me the exact dimensions of this Starrizona adapter so that I can source here or order from US and the Stararizona Part Number would be great. You say 50mm but could I trouble you to give me a sketch with the exact dimensions please, it would really help. Also just a couple of questions, you are using the 8x8mm prism ZWO OAG I think and not the new ZWO OAG-L which is 12x12mm, do you find enough guide stars with the 8X8 prism and the ASI174??, my thoughts are that with the ZWO OAG-L larger 12X12mm prism, I would cover more of the ASI174 sensor. Also, are you able to turn the ZWO OAG on its axis to find guide stars like the Celestron OAG or is it in a fixed orientation and can only turn with the whole image train?. My apologies for so many questions but I would really be grateful for your response...thanks Len

Thanks for the video. Could you kindly answer a few questions. So I ordered a C8HD. Was considering getting a OAF. From your experience is the asiair pro still able to plate solve and track. Not sure what you had before. I’m using the zwo guide scope with 120 mini right now. Have you tried it at 2050mm? Using a AZ EQ5 mount. Getting about .4-.7 usually with a 72 refractor and the zwo guide scope

Try ASTAP. As I understand it, multiple night imaging has been added.

A lot of bad info out there on how to connect the ZWO EAF including removing the grub screws or drilling into the base which may work but requires some nerve. You got it right! I believe my bracket set had the longer screws in with the bracket hardware when I mounted it 2 months ago. I'll have to remove the long screw to confirm whether it is 35 mm. Thanks.
