How to crochet a Granny Square without beginning chain 3
Переглядів 3,3 тис.6 років тому
In this video I will show you how I crochet my granny squares without starting each round with chaining 3. It has always bothered me how it looks, and this is my technique for avoiding it. Find me elsewhere: Etsy: tepperwear.etsy.com IG: tepperwearhats FB: tepperwear Thanks!!

Backstage in the ladies dressing room at the Fireside, some of the gals sing along with Miracle of Miracles as Golde gets ready for the Dream.
Thank you so much!! You’ve made my OCD heart happy!! 😊
🤣 Happy to hear that!
I remove labels by filling the glass with water and heating it in the micro then peeling it off. I then use nail polish remover.
I try not to chemicals if I can avoid it. Last thing I heard is if you put hot water in the jar the label will peel off more easily. Can’t remember if I tried it or not.
I have worked on these same Oui jars this past year...your pattern looks great! I am using white and blue #3 cotton thread to crochet a open weave pattern for a Hanaka theme (with stof David on the front to use with luminary candles to help me remember to pray for Israel! TY for sharing & singing too! You have a beautiful voice and you made my day! God bless you much!!
Ver coo! Never thought to do anything that intricate.
I know this is an older post but another method for this is instead of chaining at all you can do a single crochet and then another single crochet in the side of the first single crochet. This look identical to a double and is completely undetectable ❤
Cool! Thanks!
what if you wet as you go
THANK YOU! I ripped out the same square 6 times because of those chain gaps and I’ve been searching UA-cam for an hour looking for the solution. The chains aren’t as noticeable with a variegated yarn in a traditional square, but making a solid granny in a solid color is a no-go with the gapping. Thank you SO much 👏
You’re so welcome! I’m really glad to hear that.
Thanks for sharing your video. It was very helpful
Love this. I’m thinking you could wrap some beautiful wool yarn around it in the initial stages to hold in place for the stocking I love the look of wool too very surprising effects. Your very clever love this❤
Thank you for this. Where can I find the cotton yarn? I live in the UK.
You’re welcome! Not sure. I used Lily Sugar'n Cream. You don’t have to use cotton.
You can make the felt on a flat surface first and then wrap the bottle after you layer and layer on flat surface.
my first thought was, how much my kombucha would like to be in one of these felted glass crocks!
Brilliant process and work. I’m wondering if Ivwoukd be able to needle felting a bit of a design when dry woukd work. Of course wouldn’t be able to punch too deep. Have you tried this?
Great voice and I loved “Les Miserable”.. thanks for showing cozies for the oui jars, I just think they are so adorable. I will have to look for the Las Fermiere and Noonos yogurts… 😊❤️🙏🏽
I watched this entire video. I plan on doing this with my jars. Thank you for sharing! Excellent, God-given voice. You made the video worth watching. Thanks for making me laugh. ❤🌷😉🤣
Thanks so much!!
to remove stickinesss from label, use mineral oil. Also, boiling the bottles makes the glue easier to remove.
Amazing 👏👏👏 well don!
Thank you!
Great tutorial...... great voice too! Thank you so much for a very entertaining happy tutorial x
Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Es fantástico gracias...💜😘🍀🤗🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
you hold your work out of video range a lot of the time....
Nice beginning to your felting journey. the only problem is that you have not actually created felt since the wool isn't able to shrink--in order to truly have a felted result you need to wrap your initial bottle with added layers (bubble wrap works) which you'll remove as the felt shrinks. try it and you'll see the final result is much finer quality felt.
I used bubble wrap though.
@@tepperleen You used bubble wrap to finish the piece; I'm referring to putting a layer of bubble wrap around your vessel under the wool ( you an use a bit of scotch tape to cose it around the glass) bubble side out; then proceed with the initial rubbing inside your stocking. after a while when the prefelting has begun, you can remove that inner bit of bubble wrap and the wool will now feel baggy around the vessel. That's ok because now the felting will begin in earnest and the wool will shrink around the vessel. I hope this makes sense.
@@Malinki8 got it. Thank you.
Thank you for the tutorial and the song. What a lovely voice!
Thank you so much!
Wow I QQ w wad
Place hose on another item then place fiber and jar into it. Like a container. As long as hose can stretch
Yes, someone else suggested that. I think a can that's been open on both ends would work great. Haven't tried it yet.
OMG I was about to look for some music and then you started singing. Now I’m following but I don’t know if it is for the crocheting or your voice! 😊 God bless you!! Thanks!
You made my day! Thank you.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 BRAVO! 🥳
To help the neps to felt better, do not put them on so thick. Neps are already felted so the idea of placing a lacey amount of wool on top is a good suggestion too. Fun and interesting!!
Thanks so much!
This was so helpful, thank you!
I'm so glad!
❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍🇳🇱
You should just chain three and still join at the 2nd chain from the single crochet...that will make the corner space smaller...I was just recently watching someone else who also subtracted one chain from a corner joining...the very act of joining stretches the stitch so you only need 1 chain at that corner.
Thank you! I will be trying this very soon. Your final result looks lovely 👌
Thank you. I’m so glad you liked it. Enjoy!
This is fantastic! I KNEW I was saving the glass jars and lids from my candles for a reason! Thinking I can embroider the names of the medicinal herbs I will store into the felt. Great tutorial! Thank you!
Love that! You’re welcome!
I have been wondering what to do with all the glass jars and bottles I have, This is perfect, isn't it!
I think it turned out so pretty. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
I love this! I agree with you, I don't like the chain 3 look either. Thank you for this video!
Cool! You’re so welcome!
What are you going to use the bottle for?
I sell them mostly. So they’re boxed up to keep them clean. But a vase, or for show mostly. The smaller ones make a nice stash jar. Also great for succulents.
Just came across this video today 12-2-20. I hope you're still wet felting. The bottle was very pretty & a great recycled product. I have an idea to get the stocking over the wool covered bottle. Try stretching the stocking over an embroidery hoop. If you don't have one & you have access to Walmart they are cheap & they come in wood, plastic, & metal. To get the labels off the bottles DON'T immerse the bottle in water you need the label dry. Fill the bottle with very hot water to just above the label. Let it sit for a bit maybe a minute or so, take your fingernail and start peeling slowly off. The hot water inside the bottle heats up the glue and should make the label come off very easily. If there is some glue residue you can wash off with soap and water. Are you going to continue to wet felt & make videos? I subscribed just in case.
Thanks so much for the tip, especially in getting the labels off. I will absolutely try that. I’ve been using baking powder and oil. Someone suggested using a can open on both ends, putting the stocking over that first and then slipping the bottle through it as the stocking slides off and onto the jar. I haven’t tried it yet. I’m not wet felting much because as much as I love doing it and think the result is amazing they just don’t sell. Thanks again for the purchase and for subscribing.
What a terrific idea. Thank you for sharing.
I’m so glad you liked it!
What do you use these for?
Depends on the jar really. Vase, succulents planter, q-tip/cotton holder, just for show.
Thank you! I just bought one of your creations from your Etsy shop.
That's so cool. Thank you!!
We love a pioneer of the arts!
Awww. thanks so much!!
Great idea for re-purposing ! Thank you !
Thanks Annette!!
Just an idea to get the glass vessel and loose wool inside the nylon in one go without too much disruption....when I’ve used techniques similar to this, I stretched the nylon over a large plastic jug (or whatever), ruching it up until its stretched almost flat over the open jug. The wool/glass combo can then be dropped into the jug, with just a little encouragement to make sure the nylon isn’t pulled too tight around it. Release the stocking completely and tie! I’m on my own in most craft projects and I haven’t got like six hands or anything so I found this the best method.
Victoria Lovatt thanks. Will try that next time. No extra hands around here either.
I'm a knitter and I've only just started crocheting. I love the speed of it compared to knitting but I could not deal with the ugly (in my opinion) holes at the joins and edges. Your technique is amazing! Thank you!!!
I’m so glad to hear that Daniel. Thank you!
Just did this on a Coke bottle. Came out great.
Clear instructions. Thanks
deb hulks you’re welcome!
