Word for the Day: CAP
In effort to help you connect with your teenagers in a deeper way, I'm recording some "Word for the Day" videos to define words you can use in conversation with them.
Actually, they will probably just roll their eyes if you try to use their words, but hey, at least you're expanding your vocabulary.
(P.S. I actually recorded this video in April, but it snowed in May in Colorado, too.)

    I usually find myself telling my girlfriend things should end whenever I'm angry and I've said it multiple times and she's hurt by it,she's told me multiple times to stop saying it whenever I'm upset with her but I still end doing it hence it's destroying things and making things worse cause she's getting fed up and thinks it what I want and eventually says fine then but it leaves me hurting thinking she's not willing to fight for our relationship.

    I fear authorities of all kinds. It makes it hard to work for someone else when you fear them. To survive, I must be self employed. My ability to tolerate the fear of authority usually lasts 4-6 months. After that point I start experiencing panic attacks, migraines, digestive issues, insomnia, and depression. It doesn’t matter what my boss says, I feel like dying when I realize I made a mistake. I wonder what jobs are like for people who have a healthy relationship with authority? Do they just, like, live their lives? I can’t imagine!

      Hi Mohibquadri, I do think small wins help us gain confidence to keep going. For me, knowing God uses what I see as my failures to help me grow and learn and trust Him for the next hard thing gives me hope. Adversity keeps me humble and approachable, and empathetic to others. Metaphors also help me- like how a muscle can only get stronger through being torn (working out). So far have tried: Letting a doctor know it was a lie that she didn’t get my messages Outmatching in professionalism a psychiatrist suffering from dick-brain Writing situation down that is an obvious attempt at messing with me, instead of building resentment. Going to a outside source to talk issues away without letting source know they’re getting to you, and having them listen. Coming in “above” the situation, like “let me be the doctor. Let me be the parent” Hanging up phone/walking away, because “there was never any doubt of the justification of my anger”, though everyone tries. Better communication “feel very chewed up and spit out right now”, really ideal for ensuring poor decision making…the best. More attempts on the way……..

    • @SpeakEaglewithDrP
      @SpeakEaglewithDrP Рік тому

      Thanks for your question. I would want to stay in close communication with people who could help me catch mistakes before they become a crisis. The truth is, you can only do your best, and sometimes we do make mistakes because we are human. Hopefully you have a team, which can help you not feel quite so alone with this pressure. The fact that you don’t want to cause a loss for the company tells me that you already are a conscientious employee who desires to do your best. The more you worry, the more you will lock yourself up with anxiety. Instead, rest in the fact that you are not alone, and you are doing your best.

    Making a mistake is a real reason to fear. Managers can't wait to stomp on you. One never gets any praise if something is done well since its expected. It's that simple. But one mistake and you will hear the whole day or for a few days over and over about what you have done. Managers can't wait to show their superiority and distinguish themselves so they in return will get praises from higher managers. In the company where I used to work we all avoided at any cost a manager. Senior managers pressure junior managers and junior managers pressure staff. The staff has to shut up and comply or else ... Dumb for the one who approaches one. 50% quit their jobs me included. Now I have no job and I am scared to start a new one especially that I have now peace having no boss.

    Thanks a lot for making this video because I relate to this so much. I have mild social anxiety but for me it’s not that of a problem as much as fear of making mistakes at work and then making me feel that I look stupid afterwards, all these problems are because of my over involved parents doing everything for me and also judging me for making a mistake they also would do everything for me and tell me that “you can’t do that, I do it for you, you are not capable of doing that”.Even to this day as a 23 year old they still do these things and now that I’ve become an adult it’s hard cuz you have absolutely no self esteem and I also paid a lot of attention to my behavior in the workplace,I have trouble focusing cuz I ruminate a lot,I tend to ask so many questions before doing something out of fear of being judged or yelled by my boss and it becomes annoying for my coworkers. Idk what to really do but I really need to talk to a therapist cuz I’ve read a few psychology books and I can’t really deal with it on my own and I think it’s better to talk to someone who’s professional. I thank you a lot again for making this video because it made me feel a bit better knowing that I’m not the only one going through this ❤❤

      Hi dcjkl8088- You are definitely NOT alone- especially when over 36K people have now watched this video. And now that you are 23, you can hopefully start to break free of the control of your parents and decide on your own that you don't have to live in fear. As you grow in confidence and autonomy, I hope you can also find empathy for your parents- because they also are living in fear, which is why they want to do everything for you. I think it's great that you ask a lot of questions at work because I'll bet one day there will be someone who will ask you a lot of questions and you will know how they feel! Remember that making mistakes is a part of being human- and it's the best way we learn. Jesus was perfect so you don't have to be. May you find your identity in His strength and His love for you.

      Hi ankit34370- thank you for commenting here, and for your honesty. Anxiety can be debilitating. But mistakes are what make you human. If you never made mistakes you would be a robot! And then, even robots make mistakes. You mentioned that your anxiety about this is affecting your learning and growth. I would encourage you that probably the way we learn the most is by making mistakes. Thomas Edison, who eventually invented electricity, said, "I have not failed 10,000 times, I have successfully found 10,000 ways that will not work." I love that, because it means he kept trying, even when he made mistakes. And eventually he found the solution! So embrace your mistakes and learn from them, for they are the way we grow the most!

I think it’s time to say goodbye to fear because it isn’t serving you well. Your mind is trying to jump ahead and protect you, but it’s not helping. Letting go of your fear, trusting God that He put you in this job for a reason, and accepting imperfection may be the keys for you to be able to finally concentrate and do the good work you know you are capable of doing.

      Hi Adetilda- thank you for sharing. I think our anxiety over making mistakes makes us make more mistakes! Perfection is an illusion anyway. So breathe in the grace of God. Ask for help when you need it. Admit when you make a mistake. Learn from it. And let go. Hi Amber- it’s so hard to overcome the fear that keeps us being a turtle! I still find I struggle with it. If you can find one safe person who you can be honest with, practice “sticking your neck out” with them!

    How do I tell my bf that I wished he could at least communicate with me more text me goodnight or share what's going with him. :/ I don't want to sound mad to him but I am upset about it. It hurts...

    • @SpeakEaglewithDrP
      @SpeakEaglewithDrP 2 роки тому

      Hi Brianagh- One of the best ways is to tell your bf how much it means to you when he does communicate with you. Tell him thank you, and how it helps you feel close to him when you are apart. If he does text you, tell him right then how much it meant. Sometimes finding the “bright spots” and praising the other person when they do it “right” can be more persuasive than telling them they are doing it wrong or need to do it better.

    I still don't understand. The solution is to gradually allow yourself to make that mistake? Really? That in itself gives me much more anxiety than ever. It triggers me to not want me to do and feels counter-productive. Furthermore, When you feel the shame..."push it off with grace"?! That's MUCH harder for me than other people. How do I "gracefully" push it off like that when I'm already in a middle of anxiety and panic?!

    • @SpeakEaglewithDrP
      @SpeakEaglewithDrP 2 роки тому

      Hey Dukie mon- I can see your frustration with this. And it might not work for everyone. For me, imagining making the mistake helps me remember it’s ok to be human and it wouldn’t be the end of the world if I made the mistake. It can also help me come up with a plan, like simply admitting I made the mistake and asking for help. I also think sometimes I believe lies in my head like, “I’m such an idiot” and I need to replace them with truth that making a mistake doesn’t make me an idiot, it makes me human.

    Reality check though. How many women have been vulnerable, spoken to their partner about how they missed them, were lonely and just wanted to spend time with them and their partner has actually responded with an even more hurtful, more abandoning action. Or even gotten angry at the woman for feeling in anyway hurt because he 'did nothing wrong'. #JS

    • @SpeakEaglewithDrP
      @SpeakEaglewithDrP 2 роки тому

      Totally. So many. Which shows the maturity of the partner. Unfortunately, we can’t change others or control their responses. We can only control how we communicate and hope to lead by example.

    You are so right. I have noticed that i have the tendency to make mistakes right before some days off or the said mistakes manifest around that time. I just keep thinking about it making me depressed, unhappy and fall sick until i don't talk to my supervisor or until we find a solution. I am trying hard not to focus on this mistake but instead finding a solution and to never repeat it again. But I'm just afraid that i lose the job😐

    • @SpeakEaglewithDrP
      @SpeakEaglewithDrP 2 роки тому

      Vijesh, I'm sure that doesn't help you to enjoy your days off! It's good to focus on the solutions and to be open with your supervisor. If you can, ask them for help and treat them like they are an expert in the area in which you made a mistake. We are less likely to come down hard on someone who tells us they look up to us as an expert!

      Your anger is a sign that you value yourself and your worth, and that is a good thing, Arroba. Where we get ourselves in trouble is when we start believing what they say and it affects our confidence. You must learn to combat lies with truth- especially with the truth that God created you as unique and precious in His sight. My video “How to Communicate When You’re Angry,” might help you, too. ua-cam.com/video/CPeru_dPrPU/v-deo.html

    I’m always afraid of making a mistake at my job but I also fear that my mistakes could lead to suspension or even termination. And often times when I have made mistakes the thought that comes to my mind is this, “Shame on me! How could I do that? I’m so stupid! I’m such an idiot! I should know better! I’ve been in this position for a year and a half! The next time I make a mistake I’ll be suspended or maybe even fired!” Or the other thought that comes to my mind is, “I’m probably already fired! My boss just hasn’t told me yet! But I’ll find out maybe later tonight with a phone call or text or tomorrow morning by getting a phone call or text or when I report to work!” Then I’ll have to job hunt and it won’t be easy!”

      It's so easy to revert to negative self-talk and to then jump to conclusions, isn't it? It takes serious self-discipline to speak positively to yourself, like an awesome best friend would talk to you. If you can catch yourself soon enough, you can turn your self-talk positive and say things like "You are doing the best you can, Michael. Don't give up. Mistakes are how you learn. You are covered by Grace. Rest in Grace. It's going to be okay!" That's what the Holy Spirit says to you, because He is living in you. So listen to Him.

    • @SpeakEaglewithDrP
      @SpeakEaglewithDrP 2 роки тому

      Great question, Yanyan! Just like at home, it’s also not going to help your relationships at work to be a turtle, a fox, or a bulldog when you are angry. Eagles at work take the high road, and communicate from the place of what they long for. Do you long for a more unified team? Clients who respect you? Trust- based relationships with coworkers? A boss who welcomes feedback? Communicate from a place of longing, as that can help people be more receptive than coming at them with your anger. Also, ask good curious questions about how you can help them in the area where you are frustrated. If a coworker keeps missing deadlines and that make you look bad, you can ask that coworker if there’s anything that you can do to help them make the deadlines. Communicate the good that you want for them, too!

      I agree, Alejandra- if the other person uses all of your vulnerabilities against you, this strategy of communicating from your softer emotions probably won’t work. The best response in that case is to state clearly what you need and then set boundaries to protect yourself.
