Dennis.is.Styx.
Tommy Shaw is one of the most underrated singer/songwriter/guitarist there ever was.... he's actually a southern born ,from Alabama.
Would love to see Styx at The Sphere in Vegas!!
Sorry but I'll never like Styx without Dennis.
Great interview ❤😊
If you are a rock n roll person,Tommy Shaw is far superior to Dennis Deyoung.
Tommy and JY have had a ton of plastic surgery. They looked better before. Just like Jackson Browne and Kenny Rogers ruined their once natural good looks. It's ok to age.
Why didn't the song play! But I'll go find it. It would have been nice to see them talk about it as it played.
Not Styx w/o Dennis, ...period. Ill go to their concerts, but just because I dont have a choice and cant change things.
Great to see band is still rocking strong I HAVE NOT GOT THE MISSION LP OR CD YET BUT I GONNA GET IT AND THE OTHER ONE THAT THEY SOMEDAY I REATHER SEE THEM PLAY.
That is true I THINK THAT THEY ARE AMAZING THEY VERY CREATIVE MUSICAL FANTASTIC
Without Dennis in the band they suck
There is no room for classic rock bands? I think the key is there is room for any band if the music is good. If it’s good people will want it. Heck, U2 is making albums still. Maybe that’s because in 1983 they put out “War” and not the cheese corn Kilroy Was Here.
I saw Styx at the old Boston for the Paradise Tour. I swear Tommy hasn’t aged!
Great LP. I'm glad when on of these geezer bands make a new record..I think they need it mostly for them, they need that new blood to keep them up for playing the old warhorses every night.
OK, so - this is just WEIRD; though INTERVIEWER Jim Kerr looks NOTHING like him, Gowan now looks SCARILY like the SIMPLE MINDS frontman of THAT NAME.....
Could JY HAVE HAD ANYMORE PLASTIC SURGERY???
In taking up for us original Styx fans: We from the 70/80 genre, are dying off, and as well, “sadly to say,” all of the original Styx line up will be also. Before that happens, we would love to step back into a more innocent time, and see the original Styx lineup. I’ve seen the newer lineup 3 times, playing with REO, Felder, Foreigner, and loved all 3 shows, but their is a sadness I’m walking away with, is that out of hardheadedness, we will never see the original group once again, though we could, with the exception of John Panozzo. What an excellent memory that would be if we could, and done in memory of John Panozzo! It’s never too late, as of right now, and we don’t have to let it end this way…. Tommy, JY, Dennis DeYoung, I grew up as millions of others did, watching, listening, over the years, it would be awesome to watch y’all rock The Paradise once again! It would be a headline, and greater than a grand illusion! By jove, I wore a Styx belt buckle back in the day, and believe it can happen! You all are Styx, it can be a last goodbye, and as the lights fade, we can all sail away, with a sell out show, “televised of course,” and memories that never fade, of “The Best of Times!”
Tommy Shaw James Young
Dennis DeYoung
I've listened to you guy's my whole life and I still love your music 🎶 I'm going to have to check out soon so keep it alive tommy 😉
Since listen to radio stations back 1970s and later my high school days Friends got to me rock N Roll Love songs on radio stations 1980s was the greatest. Later though years got see Styx first concert show , was dream come true. Awesome band they still Rocks into Today world. New album. Gone Gone Gone. Great song in concert show.
Equinox, my fav...
I’d love a rep. from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame give a valid reason as to why Styx isn’t in the Hall of Fame.
You can blame the industry, record companies, the radio all you want. 60- and 70 year old dudes are just not as creative as they were in their 20's and 30's. I just listened to the song Tommy was talking about "Mission to Mars" and in 4 years it has just over 30,000 views on the Styx channel. I don't want to be mean, but quite frankly I couldn't make it through the entire song, and I loved Styx and Tommy back in the day. Why would anyone put their $ up to produce something that generates that level of interest? Because they had hits 40-50 years ago?
You are correct in your analysis. In Lou Gramms book he said his last Foreigner album with the band "Mr. Moonlight" 1995-95 tanked because the suits took power away from the disc jockeys and were under orders to play only new music but overseas it was different. Lou says Mr.Moonlight was one of the best albums they made. I personally as a fan disagreed with that statement. Mr.Moonlight did worse than Unusual Heat (1991) with lead singer Johnny Edwards and Mr.Moonlight didn't have the fire and spark of Foreigners first album. So your right the creativity level does fade over time. You are correct.
Tommy is a fraud. Hates dennis and his songs but goes on tour and has Larry sing them all. If his material was solid enough there would be no need to do it.
What evidence you got that Tommy "hates" Dennis ?
what a memory!!! Tommy Shaw at OIA.
So generous, so kind. I won't forget the Orlando International Airport that day.
Dennis Deyoung is Styx, not the jerks that kicked him out! He formed the band, and the voice!!!
Your opinion doesn't change reality. Sorry you're having trouble accepting the current lineup.
@@janetrekesius4627 Agreed! But I am a DJ and have gone to concerts starting with Zeppelin, Elton, and Pink Floyd in 1973. I have seen the major American bands too. I have seen them all, and lived in Liverpool 62-65 when my Colonel father worked with MI6 on behalf of Canada. You know who came from Liverpool, still the greatest, but so glad we came home to Vancouver! Cheers.
DDY is NOT Styx. The band was founded by the Panozzo brothers, Chuck Panozzo the bassist and John Panozzo, the original drummer, neither of whom ever got or get enough fame or credit.
@@cosmosbeing2103 Hate to tell you but Dennis said in an interview that he formed the band with them at his home in Chicago! Do your research I am a DJ.
@@tweetybird59 no one cares.
The Last of music as we all knew music. True heart, talent over the top, and sincere dedication. How totally underrated. Rock and roll hall of fame. The last of the real music.
Get rid of hip-hop
Styx is amazing and Tommy Shaw and all the guys deserve a lot a respect and appreciation. Thank You guys for all the great music.
I love the CD. It prevents my cold drink from ruining my table
Thank you!!!! I have been wanted to see/hear this live
It's refreshing a band that isn't difficult and is polite and not pain in the butts.
The audience look like a set of stiffs
I was at this show my bday

Tommy's always been good at improvising when it's needed. Very cute...🎙️🎸🎲
Loved the Back to Back Album\DVD's of Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight! Two of my favorite albums of all time!
without Dennis maybe change you name to twigs
Hahahahaha

@@janetrekesius4627 Be thankful people are still watching your videos 21 years later
@@janetrekesius4627 25 years later Syyx is still shit without Dennis
They seem happy but without Dennis at the helm Styx has a different sound which won't take them to the top like 'Lady' did.
Styx is already in the Utimate Classic Rock Hall of Fame you troll. February 3rd. 2014
And yet Dennis is what drug them down. I mean Kilroy Was Here? That was the ultimate in cheese corn rock ever.
I don't agree Styx sounds just a s good back in the days 70s Tommy Shaw he's got the vocals then and now ,they don't need Dennis they are fine .🎼❤🎸
@@TheChenny73 "Kilroy was here" didn't drag the band down . I saw them in Columbia South Carolina in 1983 at the Carolina Collesium, people ate it up. "Mr. Roboto" charted at #3 and "Don't let it end " at #6 on Billboard. Some band members namely Tommy Shaw and J.Y may have felt dismayed . But fans loved it and in 2018 The current Styx brought back Mr.ROBOTO not because they liked the song but because the fans and the promoters DEMANDED IT.
@@nancychuba2823 Dennis actually made Tommy's songs click from a technical perspective. Dennis had a lot to do with how Crystal Ball 🔮 the song and Renegade sounded before they got to the ears of the public. Gowan a great keyboard player and a decent vocalist will never replace Dennis on one KEY 🔑 ELEMENT. Deyoung was the mastermind behind how the songs turned out even ones he didn't write. That's why the band was so successful. They're just a touring band now and even Dennis couldn't save them because they're a CLASSIC ROCK BAND which means no mainstream hits ever again.
Amazing blues guitar work
JY can still rock. NO doubt about it!
Great stuff...thanks
Shaw is right when he said that "there was no home for their 2003 release "Cyclorama" on today's radio markets. IMO, 'Cyclorama' was a good album, but many (if not most) of Styx' hardcore fans hated this album for at least 1 of 2 reasons.. These reasons were: 1) First of all, Styx' Longtime fans were very disappointed and upset with 'Cyclorama' because it sounded nothing like Styx. Obviously, part of this was due to the fact that on most Styx albums half of the songs are written and sung by Dennis and there was no Dennis on this album. Also, Dennis, as a producer and one who helped arrange the songs, would often take songs written by Tommy and help shape them so they sounded like Styx. Although there wasn't a formula for a Styx song or a Styx hit, most Styx songs have 2 or more of the following ingredients: i) lush keyboard hooks with distorted power chords sprinkled in the mix,, ii) contrasting acoustic and electric guitars within the same song, iii) often dualing or harmonizing lead licks, fills, or solos, and iv) the Styx' trademark 3-part harmony backing vocals. Although Tommy still wrote half of the songs on this album, the songs he wrote sounded more like Damn Yankees or Shaw-Blades. Unfortunately, it took the band 14 years to realize that if they put out a good album that sounded somewhat like vintage Styx songs of the 70's, the fans would love it. Although 2017's 'Mission to Mars' didn't sell a million plus copies, most of the diehard Styx fans, including myself, loved that album t and it got some good reviews. It also peaked at #45 on the Billboard Top 200 albums, which was 13 spots higher than Equinox charted and 20 spots higher than Crystal Ball.did in the 1970's. 2) Unfortunately, some of the fans were mad (and some are still mad) at JY and Tommy for kicking Dennis out of the band. (Recap: After Brave New World was released, Dennis was sick (chronic fatigue syndrome and overly sensitive to light) and he felt he was physically unable to tour especially with all of his other projects that were going on. The band wanted to temporarily tour without Dennis until he recovered, but Dennis refused to let the band tour without him. He then filed suit claiming that there was no Styx without him even though a few years prior to this Dennis & Styx released an album (Edge of the Century) and had a tour without Tommy Shaw.. In short, this led to legal battles which included a fight over who owned the name Styx and this led to bad blood between the band and Dennis which continues today. Although I'd like to see a final tour with Dennis, I realize that I'm just being a selfish fan. Gowan and Ricky Phillips have been a part of Styx for over 20 years and Tommy, JY, and everyone else is happy with this version of Styx. So I doubt they want to risk.rocking the boa and they certainly don't need the money. Besides it isn't too bad having 2 legitimate versions of Styx out there making records and touring.
Kickass good song
Very cool!
a living legend!
