I follow probably the same ethics as most hunters (and then some), but it’s not at all because “the law” tells me so. I have a huge problem with the notion of submitting such a vital thing as feeding one’s self to any state or federal agency. It’s a God given right, and no one has any authority that I recognize over that. There is no King in this country, and if the state wants to claim ownership over wildlife (as they do), then they’re going to have to start paying for all the crop and vehicle damage they inflict, which is probably in the range of hundreds of billions every year.

This all just seems like complete BS talking about having an NFA item that you’re not supposed to have in Illinois and then using it to commit another crime just sounds like complete crap. Dumb story somebody else told you that you’re just repeating.

I had a similar incident, i shot a 8 point and lowered my bow down to the ground as i was going to get down out of the tree to go get him and then a 150-160 inch 11 point walked in and I tried to get the bow back up but the wind had wrapped the rope around the climbing sticks and couldn’t get the bow up. Had to just sit and watch him feed 18 yards in front of me and take video. It was heartbreaking! I only hope he is still alive this coming season and i get another chance at him, he’ll only be bigger a year later 🤞🏻
