I'm not what you would call a goth or a punk, but I grew up on New Age Traveller sites in the UK, a scene which is rooted in the punk/hippie/raver cultures. Thankyou for putting me onto Fontaines DC! These dudes are awesome

I think it's important to note that Siouxsie Sioux wasn't a nazi, she was wearing the swastika to piss off conversative old people and that was common for punks at the time. It's just another thing that we should leave in the past. She's done a lot for people of color and there's no doubt in my mind that she's not a nazi.

I have lived in three separate continents. Morrissey is right that “black and white people will never get on !”. That is after decades of observation. This is the reason left wing politics are fundamentally flawed because every race regardless of colour has been racist in their bias opinion or culturally upbringing. He is no different to African American preaching about BLM and supporting riots and theft. Morrissey doesnt offend me. When younger perhaps. But not now because i have seen racism in different forms. My dad is gen x and was a huge weirdo smiths fan in the 80s. It’s hard to tell who was just being an ally in those days, because my dad and his friends would let the bullies call them queer and openly play into it as an act of protest trolling. Dudes in this day really enjoyed playing queer to freak out their arch nemesis: normies….seemed like they did it to support but if done today they’d be mocked for pretending, even though back then it was an act of solidarity and mutual rejection of the status quo.

I got into goth in the early 80's, (Annie Nightingale request show broadcast just after the new chart rundown on BBC Radio 1 was partly to blame). Mum would steel my records, to play them, LOUD! She introduced me to what she heard in them, the Garage rock and Psychedelia of the late 60's, her teen sounds of choice. She was hearing echo's of them in My cure, Banshees and Bauhaus records.

Its funny how Gorillaz was formed as a band to be fake but created some of the best music. Its even funnier that the music is very cartoony and would be a bit weird if they were by bands with real people but its better music than most stuff out right now.

I doubt those people “forget the genre’s core values”. They never knew nor do they gaf to know. From what I recall goths and their movement have always been made fun of by outsiders. Nothing has changed other than it seeming more prolific due to the information age.

I’m a Blur fan from Malaysia. To me Blur IS underrated.
