My Home. Your Home. Our Home.
United States
Приєднався 28 жов 2020
Hi! I’m Sarah. I’m so glad you’re here! Make yourself cozy, because I hope to be chatting a lot with you in my online "home."
I'm wife to a Brazilian soccer coach and mama to two precious, bilingual boys. We live internationally and speak multiple languages in our home. If you ask my family where we are from, you might hear a little hesitant pause as we debate how to condense a lifetime of story down into a two-second answer. (Do we say the USA? That would only be about a third true. Brazil? Same deal. Thailand? Asia? Do we share that our families include in-laws from Europe and South America?)
We are on a journey to nurture our family at home and abroad--wherever we live.
Here, you will find bilingual homeschool (bilingual family) experiences, preschool ideas, book/resource reviews, and homeschool tips and community--all with a bit of travel and expat life thrown in.

When you live outside of Brazil (as we do), books and resources in Brazilian Portuguese seem pretty scant. But there are a good number of quality books that you CAN buy in the USA, and we show you inside of those books in this video.

How to remove the lint and small dust particles still sticking to it after washing
Such a helpful review!! Thank you for addressing so many questions, I learned so much. I'm almost certain this will be our curriculum this year. I have seen LOE compared to Pinwheels a lot, any thoughts on that one?
yes, i would also love a comparison video of LOE and Pinwheels please. Your videos are so helpful!
This is a great review! My personal concern is that I would not pronounce the words correctly. I’ve been wanting to order your book and am hoping you will consider reading out loud a page or more.? You could incorporate a nursery rhyme at the end of each of your videos? These books will be wonderful additions to our home library and I will be adding most of them to my list. I just recently dug out the Berlitz books I used with my kids 30 some years ago. I just need to get a cassette player to play the tapes on. We did Spanish, French and German. Thank you for this video, I love your book reviews! 🥰🙏🏽❤️
In regards to any phonics in Playing Preschool, do you find it causes confusion or could potentially if are you introducing phonograms and plan to teach reading/spelling with phonograms?
Such a helpful video. Thank you 🙏
Hello Sara. Congratulations on your content, it has been very valuable to me. I'm Brazilian and I live in Brazil, I'm the father of Helena (3 years old) and Miguel (3 months) and I'm studying to start homeschool with Helena. I've watched more than 100 videos and the vast majority talk about HS in families with 3, 4, 5 or more children. Of course, with a 3-year-old child who sees his other siblings already sitting at the table doing HS, it becomes easier. I haven't seen anyone talking about early pre-k (no older siblings). At the moment, I'm trying to choose a curriculum to start with and digital options seem like the best option, since I can't get books from some brands that only sell print. I'm having a little trouble with this part. There are no words for the quality of your content. May God bless your family.
have you made the any more of these? I love this and I teach Special Ed students - Elementary aged - and I have a group of students that are ELL - with SLD/ communication combinations so hand cues to remember grapheme-phoneme correspondence as we introduce more patterns have been so beneficial. I am looking for something to help students remember the two sounds y can make at the end of a word. (We have this motion for vowel sounds for them to remember the two sounds the letter "a" can make - hand close to chest (closed syllable) /ǎ/ - hand straight out (open syllable) /ā/) - and when the y vowel card appears during the visual drill students start to move their hands 🤓

Thank you for this detailed review… We placed an order and were pleasantly surprised to find out they offer a military discount for both active duty and vets..🙌🏻.. a little savings always helps 😊
Great review!
One of the best reviews! Thank you!
Digital curriculum has been such a gift for overseas homeschooling! Thanks for sharing our resources--and we've used so many of the same. :)
Sweetest video ❤.. awww. .. he is such a cutie pie ❤and it was so sweet hearing about your mom.., very inspiring video, you are truly blessed..
So excited to hear about the Sonlight digital instructor guides! Thanks for all the info on these resources!
This is so thorough! Thank you!
You have so many great ideas! 🙏☺️
This is amazing. Your videos are sooo good. Thank you for all the work you do !
I loved this video, your boys are so cute ❤.. I’m a grownup bookworm, my grandkids have my Dr. Seuss books from a book club that my mom purchased from over 50 yrs ago.. and I saved a few of my kids books from book clubs that I joined in the 80’s and 90’s.. The fun part is seeing all our names in the books and now I’ve added their names in the books too... Also. I do use Pocketpedia to keep track of my books and I absolutely love it.. It’s an app that sorts and organizes your books based on the info that is entered.. it allows you to create collections and sort different ways.. it truly is so much better than the spreadsheets I was using .. Thanks again for sharing this video❤
My favorite place to buy books for gifts is from Kohls Cares.. They sell books and stuffies for mostly $5 each and the books that I’ve gotten have all been hardcover.. One Christmas they had the “If you give a Mouse a Cookie series “ …I got my 5 Littles each a book with the matching character , they loved it…. My favorite used online store is Abe books but I will definitely start comparing prices and checking out the references you listed.. I’ve also found gems in antique stores .. Not necessarily antique books but used ones in great condition for $1 each.. Thankfully my daughter welcomes used books and applauds me when I find a great deal..Every video I’ve watched of yours is like a little gold nugget of information ❤
Hi! Thanks for sharing these tips. I have a 7th, 8th and 10th grader. The preschool years are so precious and you sharing your experience will be valuable to others. 🌻
Great video! I share much of the same philosophy for the importance of preschool--the importance of planting these seeds of important habits and big ideas, and I also plan for 2 years of preschool. I think we share many of the same favorite resources--that Berenstain Bears science book is so great!
I can do it, if you want.
I absolutely love your channel! I will be starting to homeschool my daughter hopefully next year and your videos are so calm and happy’
Oh, I'm so glad! Excited for your new adventure of homeschooling! 🥰
Can you do a video of how to purchase purely preschool I’m so confused by her website
Hi! I understand that it can be confusing to navigate from the page that Google has tagged as the landing page for "Purely Preschool." Here is a direct link to the products: www.wheredyoulearnthat.com/shop/purely-preschool. If you click on a unit and then scroll down through the description of the product, there is an "add to cart" button. Then click the icon of the shopping cart on the top right-hand of the page. There, you can complete the purchase. Let me know if that is still confusing, and I can possibly make a video short about purchasing the curriculum. 😊
Both of my boys were itching to do school by 2.5…. Especially my second son who knew exactly what “school” was, but my first son was right on board and loved every “school” activity we did. I should probably make a curriculum video again 🧐 it’s been a whole year 😅 This fall, I’ll have a 3 year old preschooler and a 5 (nearly 6) year old “official” kindergartener (although the grade level work he does is literally all over the place). These are very fun ages to teach. They both LOVE science… astronomy and anything bug related.
I'd love to watch an updated curriculum video! I miss watching your content and was thinking about you the other day. 🥰 That's awesome that your boys have both been so eager to begin school! And I'd love to hear what you're using for astronomy! My soon-to-be kindergartener is very interested in the solar system, and I haven't yet researched something for us to study together.
@@MyHomeYourHomeOurHome A while back I purchased several of the apologia books deeply discounted just to have as a reference. I don’t fully agree with their theology, so I didn’t think I’d use it, but my son found the book and LOVES it. He read through most of the Astronomy book on his own, and was asking me for materials to do the experiments. I went ahead and got the kit from natures workshop so it could all be together and now we are working through the the curriculum basically as written. I actually really like it for a lot of reasons. If he were a 5th or 6th grader, I don’t think I’d love it, but it’s perfect for him right now. He is also reading the bug sections of the zoology 1 book to little brother, and they both love it and learn from each other 😍 I’m almost totally uninvolved with that but the only activity we are doing from that curriculum right now is raising caterpillars for painted lady butterflies. I can see us repeating that activity next year. Other than that, my boys just spend a lot of time catching bugs with their friends after church. I tried NOEO science chemistry 1 for grades 1-3 and I don’t like a lot about it (the usability or questioning format) even though I technically don’t have any personal conflicts with the content they teach. We also have enjoyed the memoria press kindergarten enrichment science books which basically is a broad exposure to general science and nature study through picture books (that usually closely correspond to their literature picture book for the week) with very simple activities. Their picture book selection is top notch for both literature and science. This has given my son a broad exposure to a variety of topics but doesn’t really deep dive into anything, which I also think is generally appropriate for this age. My son just enjoys the books for topics that don’t fully resonate with him but he devours and rereads the books over and over for things that spark his interest. He just asks more and more questions and does his own deep dive. Apologia + memoria press really has been a good fit for our family.
Also would LOVE to hear more about the research on teaching preschoolers to read!! I've been feeling pressured not to teach my preschooler who is VERY eager to read!
Sorry you're feeling pressured not to let her read. I'll have to do some digging to find the research again (it was probably 2013 that I did it--crazy how long ago that feels!). But from what I remember off the top of my head, the heaviest objections to teaching reading to toddlers/preschoolers were 1) not wanting them to advance to content that might not be age-appropriate (for example, not having challenging reading at their maturity level), 2) not tiring them and causing them to have learning exhaustion, and 3) not relying on memorization. None of those are, in my opinion, absolute barriers to doing something. There are ways to avoid all three of those pitfalls. (And I'm also not super against memorization in many cases.) The benefits, of course, are the same as for any other age group. And you also have the additional benefit of natural curiosity. ;) I'll try to find the research and add this to my list of videos to make.
@MyHomeYourHomeOurHome Love this!! So interesting! Thank you for sharing!!
I've bought so many of these resources at your recommendation and they've all been fabulous! Going forward, do you have affiliate links? I'd love to support your work!!
Oh, I'm so glad you're enjoying these resources too! And thanks for wanting to support my work! I have a few affiliate links for resources that I include in the description of my videos, but I don't have a ton of affiliate links for direct purchases from curricula companies.
I checked out your channel and you post very good videos. But your video doesn't have SEO. UA-cam algorithm will not promote your videos if you don't do SEO. So SEO of your videos is very important.
Ok, thank you
Very detailed review , thank you ! One more thing with the LOE, is they do offer a military discount for both vets and active military .. We were able to use it on our order.. 🙌🏻
Thank you for sharing these gold nuggets 🙏
My pleasure!
Very clear and thorough review! So helpful. 🙏☺️
Thank you!
Yes, the Sonlight T and P guides have a significantly gentler pace in comparison to their higher levels.
Of course! I love your insight into this whole overseas homeschool life. 🥰

Wonderful!
New subscriber! We love Sonlight at our house too! ❤ I just started sharing on UA-cam also. Just a new hobby. 😊
Oh, yay! I always love meeting fellow "Sonlighters"! :) I just subscribed to your channel and look forward to watching your videos.
@@MyHomeYourHomeOurHome Thank you 😊 There aren’t a ton of Sonlight users on YT, so I love finding people who do use it. ❤️
We started with Sonlight T (half way thru by the guide). Started T again without the guide. Added G&C preschool and did almost all the handicrafts (girls 2&4), all of 22 units and all 26 books. Loved Preschool Math at Home and All About Reading Pre-reading. Began Sonlight P. Stopped PMAT half way and began Kindergarten Math with Confidence. Finished Pre-reading and began AAR level 1. I’m planning a similar mashup for next year. Adding Beautiful Feet Seasons Afield because they love art activities with science.
This sounds so similar to what we have done! 😊 We love these resources too. I'd love to hear about how Beautiful Feet Seasons Afield is!
Your channel should be well organized and videos should be more SEO friendly then your views will increase automatically.
Thanks for the tips!
I would love to see your dream preschool. I've been looking at each of the curricula you've mentioned - have G&C preschool, have most of the Sonlight books but definitely wanting something more active for my almost 3 year old. I'd initially thought Playing Preschool was too "gimmicky" so your review is encouraging as someone who appreciates (appropriate) rigour
Hi! We felt a similar need for activity too. Playing Preschool scratched that itch perfectly. We didn't find it to be "light" or "gimmicky" work. So many of the activities were both a ton of fun and academically excellent.
I have an active four year old boy and we love Logic of English. He loves doing his "dragon book school". We had family over during the holidays and didnt skip lessons because we thoughtitwould be fun to play games with my 7yo and 9yo nephews. They currently attend public school but are now requesting to be homeschooled.
That is so cute! Love that!
Thank you so much for sharing!!! I loved this update! We are LOVING Playing Preschool and paired it with the G+C memory statements and Preschool Math at Home but nothing else from G+C. Thanks for updating! I hope you're all adjusting well to the new baby!
Thank you! She is so delightful, and we are all in love. 🥰 It makes me giddy to share excitement over Playing Preschool! And I'm so glad you are enjoying G+ C too!
Thanks for sharing, I have a 2-year-old toddler boy who will be 3 this summer, and I am looking for a structured preschool curriculum to do with him. It is hard because he is so very active and never sits still for a minute unless it's playdough. I wonder if playing preschool would be a good fit for him and me.
Playing Preschool is AMAZING!! We love it so much!
I highly recommend it--especially for active boys! My boys LOVE it, and it has given us so much to bond over. There is a free preview of the first unit ("Apples") available online. You can try that to see if it will be a good fit for your son.
only 8 views? your videos are not SEO-friendly. you must do video SEO to get good results. SEO increases views, If you can increase the views, you will be able to advance your channel a lot. what is the benefit of making a video so hard? If views, likes, subscribers are not? So I say, first organize the channel nicely, SEO the videos and then release the videos, then you will get good results. This will benefit you a lot, you will be able to improve your channel with very little cost.
I've thought the same thing! It's such a fabulous channel, and I would expect more views on all of her videos! SEO optimization would help a ton😊

I want all of these now😂😂
Haha! You sound a lot like my own thoughts!
Great video thankyou!
Glad it was helpful!
Hello, I'm in Texas. Thinking to move to Ho Chi Minh City VN. Good video.
So exciting! All the best for your move!
That's really interesting about devices! I feel that same pull frequently to get rid of them completely. I'll have to look up that book!
It was soooo thought-provoking. Since reading it, I also listened to an interview with the author of "Glow Kids," and that added some more details about the "scientific" effects of screens.
Always love some good book recommendations! These sound awesome, thanks for sharing!
Several of these are on my list of future reads, and I’ve now added several more you discussed. Thank-you! This past year I read and was inspired/challenged by Risen Motherhood and The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry. Highly recommend both!
oooh! I've had my eye on Risen Motherhood for awhile. Gotta try it! I hadn't heard much about The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry, but it sounds like something I need. I catch myself hurrying my boys to the next thing--often without a real justification for the hurry.
This is off the subject, but have you found any Portuguese curriculum? I am attempting to teach my kids Portuguese while I learn with them. I can't find any Portuguese curriculum for kids.
Hi! I am working on some curriculum for teaching Portuguese. I need it for my own family and will share it when it's finished. If you need something ASAP, though, I only know of one curriculum available right now: Homeschool Languages. I have not tried it. However, it does look fitting for a very beginner level, so might be helpful.
@@MyHomeYourHomeOurHome I have homeschool language, but I want something with more Portuguese or bilingual. It is a good curriculum for people just starting out.
@@MyHomeYourHomeOurHome oooh, I look forward to seeing your curriculum.
Thanks so much! This was extremely helpful. I have been going back and forth on whether or not to buy their curriculum used or new. You helped make the decision easy.
Oh, yay! Glad this was helpful!
