Walking in Helsinki during Vappu 2023 | The craziest day in Finland
Vappu is one of the craziest events celebrated in Finland. It's a mass party and celebration to welcome the beginning of Summer. Tradition of Vappu is seen here where Finns would wear their graduation hat, captain's cap, to the event.
On the eve of Vappu, 30th April, they would clean the famous naked lady statue, Havis Amanda, and crown her a captain's cap.
Vappu is probably the only day where all Finns come out to celebrate in an open space, hence the crowded streets and parks. No cars will be able to pass during this event due to road closures and blockages. Public drinking is definitely legal and you will see plenty of youngsters and even elders drinking and having fun!

The drumming for the lion dance is poor - no rhythm, no passion.
They are not professional lion/dragon dancers. It is a Voluntary performance by the Finnish-Chinese cultural association!
