    I know I'm super late but I had to leave a comment. I'm very much in loved with your style for Blackfyre, the only thing I would add is that the sword should be all black because it was burned in Aegons funeral pyre. Also, do you take orders by any chance?

      I didn't use anything the only time I use flux is with high carbon steel to improve the success rate but for most steel you don't need it to weld if you have the correct tempature

    I just gotta suck it up and order some bar stock. I was just going around to the local TSC, but they don't seem to get orders in regularly at all. I have a e book on animal heads that is pretty much this same style. Dragons, goats. I love the dog idea! Looks like those half witish dogs from older slapstick cartoons.

    I'm wondering if you didn't bend the head over prior to doing the chisel work on the forehead couldn't you eliminate the jig in the vise and do the chisel work on the anvil? As well as when you folded the lips over instead of attacking it with 2 hammers you could do it flipping it on the anvil?

    • @hoodedblacksmith7138
      @hoodedblacksmith7138 3 роки тому

      Quite possibly but then you might run the risk or damaging the detail work trying to bend it afterwards. I'm sure there's meny way to get a similar result that's one of the beautiful things about the versatility of forgework.

    I never realised the tuyeres were so high in a side blast forge. Solid build though, You might have struggled with the 5mm, but I wouldn't have built it out of thinner, forges need to be robust! And of course you need some weight in it to balance all that kit hanging out the back.

    You've made wonderful sword and the holy, cross guard, and pommel are coming along nicely. However, this isn't Blackfyre, the sword of Aegon I Targaryen. The cross guard is "V" style with the head of a dragon on either side, the grip is made with ebony wood with small circlets spaced Everly down the handle and the pommel is a diamond shaped ruby. Now of course no one is going to be able to place a 1500 carat ruby as a pommel, perhaps glass. I do not want to take away from the masterful art you're creating. I'm a novice blacksmith and could never create this myself. So I have much respect for you're workmanship, but unfortunately this is not Blackfyre.

    • @hoodedblacksmith7138
      @hoodedblacksmith7138 4 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment this was allways intended as my interpretation of blackfyre as there is no official description of the blade from the books and the artwork you described was done by an unlicensed artist and to my knowledge is an unofficial depiction of the blade. I'm prepared to be wrong however.

    • @clarkkent5442

      @@hoodedblacksmith7138 you've obviously done more homework on this build than I have. I'm more than willing to admit that I may in fact be wrong. I was just going on the artwork I've seen. Again, you're an amazing artist of steel and I cannot wait until part 5 comes out. TBH I was a little surprised you took the time to respond, but so happy you did because, again, you've obviously done your homework on Blackfyre.
