An inbox review of the new LF Models 1/72 Westland Wasp ASW helicopter from John Lanning of IPMS Fort Crook. In short, this is the only 1/72 Westland Wasp kit in plastic produced. Air Graphic models did have a resin kit that is out of production, and Freightdog models is due to release their 1/72 kit with resin parts cast by CMK soon. The only other way to currently build a 1/72 Westland Wasp i...

A brand new model company from Ukraine hits the ground running with a rare Cold War classic. Litaki's first model kit is the 1/72 SOKO J-22 Orao (Eagle) attack aircraft, co-produced by Romania and the former Yugoslavia. This is the first time that this aircraft has been released in plastic in any scale, the only other kit is the resin Aeropoxy kit that has been around for about 25 years.

It is a look at how modeling technology has evolved from the basic model form from the late 1970's Heller kit to the 2020's new tool modern high detail kits from Modelsvit and Dream Model. We will look at the four Mirage 2000 kits, their variations and re-boxings. I w...

The "ground rules" concerning my modeling reviews.
Hi Chap. I served with (and still work with) the Scout, and occasionally the Wasp. This is an interesting one. Odd in both cases there are no weapons. Of the 160 Scouts we had, only 10 or so never had the capability for the SS11. Either way there was/is a panel that covers where the AF120 sight goes. The WASP also carried the WE177 nuclear depth charge. I have regular close contact with the Scout and yeah, the accuracy on these is much better than the old airfix cab and the airgraphics engines. One obvious error is that the front of the oil cooler (looks like a long hair drier left of nimbus) is bullet shaped however, on the real cab, it had a large inboard facing exhaust. The rotor heads on these are fully articulated so the gap between tip and boom is approx 12" Nice one. Now 1:48 would be nice.
The Aztec sheet (72-048) has markings for 3 Wasps from the Falklands War, all involved in the attack on the Samta Fe: XS 539 from HMS Endurance and XT 429/445 from HMS Plymouth. Trying to determine if the sight parts are included with the Scout as well.
Nice kit just subscribed to you
Strange Airfix never did it considering they did ALL of the other helicopters in uk military service at the time
When you showed the box at the start of the video you called it a westland Lynx.lol.🤪🤪
Yeah, I saw that and thought "Crap, too late"....😃
Thanks for doing this. I have the Modelsvit Mirage 4000 but have not yet gone for any of their M2000 kits. The D version has been a good seller here in the UK. I used to build a lot of M2000s (1/72 and 1/48), often for their glamorous schemes and thanks to Syhart Decals and others. My kit of choice in both scales was the Heller, principally because it was the most accurate and for its time the larger version was impressively detailed (certainly the fuselage and wings). The lack of detail inside cockpits was never an issue as it was so rarely seen. I have found that with Heller, they always tried their best when producing locally-made aircraft. The Italeri, if I remember correctly, had many inaccuracies, including square panels on the wings which should be rounded (definitely on the 1/48 version, which Revell also boxed). After modelling kits since the mid 1960s, I find too many recent ones are overly complicated and I no longer have the dexterity, eyesight or patience for this. Amongst others, ICM and Zvezda both now suffer from this 'over-engineering' (that said, the latter's Yak130 and MiG29SMT are both excellent when finished, but with 100+ parts left over). Someone (A&A Models?) brought out a new Mirage IV in 1/72, but I have read from more than one source it is simply a reworked Heller kit, with some dodgy re-scribed panels. I thought the Heller kit was great and will stick with it. Heller have recently released a 1/72 Mirage F1, but it is their boxing of the Special Hobby kit. I am put off by this, as having bought the Revell F1 in Normandie Niemen markings (black overall with a giant red star on top) this is also the Special Hobby kit. Sure it is packed with tiny details and was not too taxing for me to build, but I'd go back to the Heller own tooling next time. One reason for this is that the SH kit comes with so many parts not used (extra weapons, parts for other versions) which I am unlikely never to use. Same with the Viggen. I bought the 1/72 Special Hobby for the Akktu Stakki decals. Again, so many unused parts left over. The Heller kit does offer different versions inside their version, but it is an older simpler kit, so far less redundancy . . . and a more enjoyable build for me. In 1/48 scale the first Mirage 2000 I had (in 1983) was the ESCI kit which depicted the white prototype. A poor copy of this was issued maybe 20 years later by AA Models, I think (not A&A), a Chinese concern. It was awful. Thanks again for your thoughts. I found them useful.
Just an update about the broken canopy....... I contacted Litaki through their Facebook page, and they told me that they are sending me a replacement canopy without charge.
I built this model. I think the instructions are not accurate as long as the landing gear is concerned. The cockpit is hard to fit and the canopy is not accurate. It doesn’t match with the fuselage so there’s gaps to be filled. Overall, a low quality kit.
You got a bad one....while i do agree with the instructions not being very accurate mine had no fit issues what so ever amd the main part of the canopy on mine fits so well it doesn't need to be glued in postion...also the cockpit is very easy to fit..the tub even has 2 mounting lugs on it that match up to mounting holes so i found it impossible to get the fit of the cockpit wrong.
I built the kit myself a few months ago, I thought that it went together rather well. I didn't have any alignment issues with the cockpit, and the forward portion of the canopy fit rather well (I molded mine with the cockpit open). I can see the issue with the landing gear, but I used some web pictures to help with that.
I think K.P. are now gone. .i heard they were bought out by Special Hobby or rebranded themselves as Speciaal Hobby
Nope, they are still pretty much active, just released some new kits not too long ago.... www.kovozavody.cz/kategorie-produktu/kp-172/

Uniquely In Belgian airforce some of these were modified to mirage decoys known as thundermirages
6:16 Mark 7 nuclear bomb.
Thank you.
Would be great to see an Aerobatic teams reboxing of it...the Thunderbirds flew it and the Italian air force had at least 2 teams that flew it.
@@jaws848 They have already released a second boxing with "Operation Muskateer" markings, so I wouldn't be surprised if they did a boxing with flight demo teams such as the Thunderbirds, the Diavoli Rossi or Getti Tonanti teams. In fact, I wouldn't be suprised if they did a rebox with one of the F-84F "MiGs" from the movie "The Hunters". They released thier 1/72 Gnat kit with markings of the "Oscar EW5894 Phallus tactical fighter bomber" from the movie "Hot Shots".
@@Johnopfor i really do hope the Aerobatic teams that we speak of get a reboxing.....happy christmas from the Emerald Isle (Ireland).
Thank you for the review!
😳 Promo-SM.
Whoot! Whoot! Thanks for sharing!!
Hi John, I believe Airfix had a 1/72 Viggen as well if I remember right.
Your correct, I missed that one, but the kit originates from 1971, which puts it in the same category of the Hasegawa and Heller kits. Thanks for correcting me.
