Spinsterhood Reimagined
Приєднався 25 лис 2011
I'm Lucy Meggeson, the host and producer of Spinsterhood Reimagined, a podcast that celebrates all things single and childfree. If you're single, childless / childfree, and you want to make the very most of your life, then this is the place for you. I help single women reframe the way they feel about their lives, showing them that life gets to be just as good when you're on your own. Because, ultimately, happiness doesn't come from a relationship and / or a baby - it comes from within us. I encourage single women to focus on creating a life that they love, rather than spending their precious time distracted by the need to find a partner. There is a whole world out there that we should all be making the most of, regardless of whether or not we happen to be in a relationship. You can listen to Spinsterhood Reimagined anywhere you find podcasts!
Allora Dannon Campbell talks about going viral on TikTok & her appearance on Drew Barrymore's Show!
You can listen to the full episode of Spinsterhood Reimagined with Allora, wherever you listen to podcasts!
Allora is 34, single, childfree, and the oldest of 10 homeschooled kids raised on a horse farm in New York State. By the age of 32 she’d never been kissed, let alone been in a relationship, and in 2023 Allora started talking about her big ‘secret’, as well as her adventures with dating, on TikTok. Eighteen million views later, and an appearance on the Drew Barrymore Show thanks to documenting her life as a self-proclaimed ‘late bloomer’, she is now a spokesperson for those people who have also come to the game of love and sex later in life.
She lives in Western New York, marketing for a biotech company by day, and writing by night.
Topics that we cover are:
- Allora’s wonderful childhood with her parents and nine siblings;
- how taking care of her younger siblings was - and still is - a big part of her identity;
- how she thought she was the only person in the world who was a ‘late bloomer’, and how embarrassed she was by it;
- what it felt like to be ‘behind’ everyone else in terms of love and romance;
- the feeling of isolation when you’re not hitting the usual milestones at the ‘right’ time;
- her first relationship at the age of 32, and what it felt like to experience all of her ‘firsts’;
- expectation and pressure she felt about 'knowing what to do';
- what happened when she started sharing her ‘late bloomer’ journey on TikTok;
- the story of Allora going on The Drew Barrymore Show;
- the dating app ‘hellscape’ and her experience of it;
- how, whilst she wants to share her life with someone, she us “super good” at being single;
- why women don’t need men in the same way as they used to;
- how Allora’s standards for relationships are high because her parents have such a great relationship;
- the article she wrote after suffering the grief of her first heartbreak;
- what Allora finds the hardest about being single;
- her novel, Sisters, Salt & Dragons.

Thanks so much for subscribing, Shirley! And for sharing - I cannot tell you how much I appreciate that. x
Omg what an awesome clip - can’t wait to listen to the whole episode. X
So glad you enjoyed it and I hope you enjoy the full episode! x
THIS!!!!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hey Lucy - this clip was fantastic - I will be listening to the whole podcast. Is there a reason you don’t post the full podcast on utube? The only reason I ask is that I often listen to podcasts when I’m going about chores etc and can miss bits. With u tube I give it my undivided attention. There is probably a very good reason!!! 😊
Hey Charlotte! I'm so glad you enjoyed the clip and I hope you'll enjoy the whole podcast. The reason I don't post the whole thing on UA-cam is because I produce this podcast (three episodes) every week all by myself, and at the moment I don't have the bandwidth to edit the whole video as well as the audio - and it's better to use the audio from the audio file rather than edit the whole video and then use the audio from that, if that makes sense?! Hopefully in the future, I'll be in a position where I can also edit and post every episode on UA-cam. Love, Lucy x
@@spinsterhoodreimagined ah makes perfect sense!!! Looking forward to taking some time out to listen to whole podcast x

@@spinsterhoodreimagined just finished listening - loved the convo!!! I’m 12 months down the line of being single and really beginning to embrace it and this convo really affirmed my thoughts.
@@charlottewagstaff3107 So pleased you enjoyed it, and that you're starting to embrace single life. I hope the podcast and these clips will continue to help you. x
It seems like a great community and I love seeing people swimming against the tide and going against the grain of society and carving their own path. The only niggling question I have is do those of you solo thrivers who may at some point get into a relationship get shunned for going against the solo code? Women can be great but there’s nothing worse than the resentment from a woman if she perceives you have something that she doesn’t have. None of us are all 100% kind and fabulous. Let’s get real here. We are all a mix of light and shade. It sounds like a great concept for a community but it’s great to thrive solo and also I don’t want to ditch and abandon the idea of a healthy intimate relationship either.
Ha ha not at all! I've had several members leave because they have got into a relationship, but I also celebrate it and wish them well, obvs! It's not a place to relationship-bash; it's just a place to love your single life whether you end up in a relationship or not. And I myself may or may not end up getting a boyfriend at some point. The point is to not waste the life you have as a single woman, worrying about being single! x
Where is the full episode? Is it not here on UA-cam?❤ I adore Heidi and her attitude.
The episode is wherever you listen to podcasts. And the podcast is called Spinsterhood Reimagined. Hope you enjoy it! x
All I've ever heard is, I Love My Kids BUT.... I'm 49. I was open to the OPTION to procreate, but, I've never met a man that made me want to stop using contraceptives 🤷♀️
You fit more in the european way of thinking about relationships and stuff. In the US getting marryied, have children and all the pack is still a thing
Heidi is amazing. Everyone talks about the bad plastic surgery and fillers that actors get but I will bet that most of them were "told" by their agents and managers that getting work was dependent on them looking young. Don't listen to this b.s. It's your body/face/health-treasure that.
Yes, she is fabulous, isn't she! And I love the fact that she's trying to change the narrative around ageing. It's so, so important. x
This really annoys me its like there's a sense of entitlement there where mothers think they are entitled to know why someone doesnt want children. If im not asking you why you had children dont ask childfree people why they chose not too. Nobody is entitled to that information.
I came across Paul profile in iG 8 months ago when I was through a breakout. I was "hating" men and myself and I thought he would be a total farse but after a few posts I couldn't believe how much I related with everything he shared. I learn to love myself and to go on solo dates without the fear of being outdated. I can say I'm in a better place thanks to his advices. Great Kraken and Spinsterhood Reimagined are my new best friends ❤

Hi Lucy, I'm one of the 60,000 single over 50s men in the UK, but I'm probably a minority in that group by wanting to be single. It's very liberating mentally, when you find yourself being very content with being alone. We live in a world where we are programmed to believe we are supposed to all be paired off and that default thought process is running constantly in the background for almost everyone. People stay in bad relationships and marriages because it's better than being alone, people are afraid of being alone. When that default programming breaks and we embrace life and time alone, the fear is replaced with contentment. In my opinion, breaking that default programming is something that can't happen consciously, we can't work towards making it happen, I think it's, or it was for me a combination of our natural selves/personality and life experiences in relationships and marriages.
Thanks so much for your message. I couldn't agree more with what you say about how we are programmed to think we must pair off at all costs. It's something I talk alot about on my podcast. But yes, the truth is that finding contentment alone, and embracing all of the wonderful freedoms, is so liberating. I feel better now, aged 48, than I ever have done. Hope you enjoy this channel and the podcast, if you get a chance to listen! Love, Lucy x
@@spinsterhoodreimaginedI will definitely be listening to more of your podcasts Lucy. I've listened to a couple more since this one and in one of those you and your guest talked about how you once felt weird with the feeling of wanting to spend time alone. I don't think I will ever believe I'm not weird lol, even though I'm totally comfortable with me time. I've spent about 60% of adult life single. 3 of the last 6 Christmas days I've spent alone through choice. I could of spent each of those 3 days with my Dad, Sister and her family. I do question myself for doing that, but I genuinely did want to just spend each of those Christmas days alone. I've been watching a lot of podcasts discussing the Cass Report last few days, many with female guests, and your video was suggested after watching one of those. I have a 5 year old granddaughter and I'm worried the world she's growing up in is fast becoming an absolute minefield of madness. I feel a social divide is being/has been placed between heterosexual males and females. I think our generation has been effected by it, but no where near as bad as it is for the young uns of today, who should be out there dating each other and having fun. But they are too terrified to do so because they don't have the basic social skills to give themselves the confidence they need to put themselves out in the real world or they are simply perplexed with what to say or do out of fear of offending. I think we may see many many more people across all ages drawing a line under wanting to meet someone, and more will accept long term single life is not as bad as we all once thought it was. Keep up the good work Lucy, I will listen to some more of your poddys over the next few days. Take care, Jesse x
Loved this. Please can we ban the word childless and replace it with ChildFREE .
Glad you enjoyed this! I usually do use the word childfree, but this presentation was for the Childless Collective, so thought I'd better use the word childless in this instance. On the podcast I always refer to myself as childfree, because I am! ;) xxx
So proud of you Jessie and so honoured to be your friend ❤
I am also an introvert, live alone in my own condo, LOVE my solitude. I relate to you so much!! I listen to your podcast all the time and enjoy it. I am happily single…can’t imagine any man out there is worth giving up my solitude for. Thanks for doing what you do. I think you are awesome 😊
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I'm so pleased that you enjoy the podcast and I really appreciate you listening. Love, Lucy x
In my personal opinion We have to love ourselves first If self-love is Achieved then we can be much more happy with our own company ❤
