how I remade soothe2 from scratch
2 days ago I used bitwig's grid to create a patch that effectively clones soothe2. then virtual riot beat me to uploading the video 😭

the better way to distort your sounds

heavy distortion without losing dynamics
Переглядів 117 тис.Рік тому
this is a neat little technique called “companding” or “compander saturation” where we’re able to put compressors and saturators on either end of a saturator, so that we can heavily distort a signal then recover the dynamic range afterwards using an expander which applies the same amount of gain that the compressor initially removed. this can be great for coloring a sound with distortion while ...
multiband will ruin your loud master (unless u do this)

Don't use the track pan knob.

An easy trick to make the panning in your songs sound more natural & interesting. I ended up finishing this little beat: on.soundcloud.com/GsWd3 :)
The better way to route tracks to the mixer in FL Studio

The way you're assigning instruments and samples to the FL Studio 20 mixer is messy and giving you a headache. Here's a tutorial showing why your way is bad and how to use the way better way.
WIDE synths that also work in MONO (updated)

This way is better because it almost completely eliminates phase cancellation, plus it does so for each harmonic, not just the bass. Drawback is that you're taking away the unique phases from the wavetables, and for some sounds the phasing sound is desirable. The original video: ua-cam.com/video/pYVAHmIHoog/v-deo.html

Useful technique for making fat bass sounds with Serum.
what would happen if you use this linear phase on moderate level mixes instead of very loud tracks? thank you :)
it’s probably fine either way on quiet mixes. it’s less important if you’re dealing with a quiet, low LUFS/RMS mix. preserving the phases is more valuable the closer your waveform gets to sitting consistently right at zero. because if the waveform is constantly redlining, going waaaay up near zero like a square wave does, then the effect of this phase smearing would be dramatic and prolonged. whereas if you check out your waveform in a visualizer, and the loudest part of your song only goes up near zero every now and then - maybe just for some kick/snare hits, then if the phases get screwed up, those problematic peaks over zero would only really be introduced at those moments when the kick/snare hit. does that make sense?
Whats the point of this. Am i stupid
Amazing videos. Ty. Instant subscribe :)
anybody know if you can do this (linear phase mode) with abletons multiband compressor? or fab filter’s
I don’t use any of the plugins described in the video how would this still apply to my mixes? I do use Compression, Limiting and Clipping, is there anything I’m missing other than that?
dude I'm not even kidding, the way you added those little pink/purple overlays with text saying things like "soon it gets better" and so on actually gave me a better sense of understanding which parts to pay attention to more. It's so easy while watching UA-cam tutorials to sort of "drift off" forgetting why you even started watching because so many things are being mentioned leading up to making the final point that it actually helps to just know kind of like "okay we're getting there thanks for letting me know", and it even made me pay more attention somehow to the things you were explaining besides the actual linear phase mode being activated. And for those wondering "well what can I do about pre-ringing?" Consolidate all your tracks into audio tracks and then just cut it out. That's what Skrillex does.
good to know. the only other guy who ever commented on those transition things said it was dumb and I shouldn’t do it because it makes it seem like I’m not confident in what I’m saying. I think I put it there because I wanted to keep things quick but also give a little background without feeling like it’s not going anywhere. I’m glad it worked for you!! also nice tip about preringing. though I’m thinking that would only work for preringing from silence. the ringing affects more than just the start/end of the sound. I believe it rings constantly - you just can’t see it easily during sustained sounds like you can with a kick drum or something.
sounds incredible bro!! well thought are executed and an incredible video explanation.
Who needs dynamics right?
I haveee abbbbbbletooooonnnn 😢😅
get well soon ❤️🩹
Dam bro thank you! An Oscilloscope I need!! I find myself exporting the track and reviewing the waveform after ! I need to review during the Mastering process as it's time consuming exporting and redoing the leveling again and again !
ott is the same kind of plugin, right???
they’re quite different effects
@@jshstuff what's different? don't get offended just asking
this is exactly what i needed holy shit ty ty

Without linear phase on the master, the master will be ruined for sure
Or you could just use Saturn 2 where you can do the same thing with the dynamic knob
This is a joke right?
How to get source from other track? I am using audio receiver and it cancel out the host track.
megagold.
u r giga gold !
gold.
i’ve been trying to figure out why when i distort stuff everything kinda sounds like mush and this might have just changed my entire mixing workflow
Yes 😂😂😂 I knew this the same year I started producing All my friends were surprised. A head phone is a mic
im mix it self is bad. its harsh on the ears
Does izotope dynamics have a linear phase mode?
Wow thank u inhave never seen anything like this in any tutorial
My mix: ███████████████████████████████████████
TRUE DUED
melda audio has such goood plugins!!!
Does this mean you should also use linear phase EQ? Or not since it’s affecting the whole spectrum at once?
yeah exactly. if you’re trying to mix to high LUFS levels, watch out for anything at all that shifts the phase on the master. even other kinds of effects like certain saturation/distortion can cause phase shift. if you really need to eq or add any phase-altering effects, try doing it at the bus level, or on individual tracks. then limit/clip all the tracks/busses at 0dB (look up CTZ).
Amazing straight to the point video
What is that visualizer at the top?
minimeters!
This is some really interesting stuff. I've always wondered if this was possible!
i learned this when i was 13 by accident on cubasw
Cannot thank you enough!! This single tip alone took 4dbs of gain reduction off of my final limiting! At the same LUFS! How is this not well known and covered everywhere!! Astounding!!

also, i'd love to know how you're getting those various visualizers mounted above bitwig like that
@boaris6237 get minimeters!! it’s only $10 and it’s amazing and very customizable, resizable. it’s a separate desktop app and I usually leave it stuck to the top of my second monitor while working.
Always wondered what the compander setting was doing. This is a hot tip for bass and drums sections. Thank you!
thank you thank you thank you. i kept having weird random distorted parts in the loudest part of my track after limiting peaks in the mix and everything. toggling linear phase on removed 99% of the distortion.
this is what I want to hear <3
good video another good tip would be: don't mix loud
you are truly a savior 🙏
As a non-IDM music producer working on Bitwig / Linux, THIS is the type of content that makes Bitwig relevant and relatable to me! Thank you so much for this
you’re welcome! I’m glad :)
Yo this is a real gem
Thank you very much for making this video! this helps!
you're welcome!!
your voice is exactly what i want my voice to be. literally so asmr
leave it to ZNOTEX to get -4 lufs with an OTT, mid side eq and a waveshaper on the master and still have it sound good
if it works it works
@@jshstuff he does a real good job with it lol
i was discussing this with another artist recently, I'll have to check out more of your videos :)
love this

Is there a reason linear phasing is just not turned on by default by developers?
I think because it’s generally fine, if not better to use non linear eqs unless youre trying to do something reaaaaly specific. like mixing loud for example. most of the time you probably don’t actually care what happens with the phase relationships of a sound. they’re usually random and meaningless. regularly look at your sounds through good oscilloscopes and over time you’ll likely learn to see when you do/don’t need to preserve phase on a sound
lol. when you do have that sample xd
I was using maximus and was facing the same issue too best tutorial!
🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
So when would you use the non linear phase mode
basically all the time because there’s nothing inherently wrong with phase shift. it’s only bad if you have a reason to preserve the existing phase of your sound, like on a loud, squared off master. on basically any individual sound in a mix it doesn’t matter if you change the phase relationships. except for some special cases. for example if you have a dubstep kick by cymatics that’s really loud and you can tell it’s hard clipped just by looking at the waveform - if you shift the phase on that kind of sound it will probably introduce a lot of peaks over zero (even when you’re cutting). and you probably don’t want those peaks. so if you needed to eq that kind of sample, you’d probably benefit from linear phase. but of course this comes with the caveat that you’d need to make sure that any groups you’re sending that sound to, like groups/busses/master also don’t shift the phase or else that linear phase would be all for nothing.
