Does anyone know how he's linked L/R on the Curve Bender? I don't see anything on the front panel or in the documentation that suggests stereo linking is possible with this unit, but in the demo he's only hitting the "In Left" button for the engage/bypass...
Being the guy who made this video, I would suggest that linking of left and right channels is not necessary, since you are only listening to a mono signal 😉
@@torstenmatthiessen1801 Haha I actually ended up calling Chandler to see if stereo linking was possible, and my only guess (since they said it's not possible) was that you were working on a mono signal in the video... Thanks for the response!
wowsi - gotta catch em all
nice shootout
if you had to choose between the Tube Tech, BAE, and purple audio ... which would you pick? I'd be inclined to go with the Purple Audio just because it's cheaper and I think it sounded great, but I wonder if you'd consider the price difference of the other two to be justified.
First off all, I would never choose one of the above based on the price. If I had to choose one, I’d need to know what I should use it for. Drums? Vocals? Guitars? Bass? Banjo? Tanpuras? Cello?
@@torstenmatthiessen1801 I don't have the luxury of owning all of these at the moment, so price is somewhat relevant to me (if not for you). I'm sure you can imagine that even if I can afford the tube-tech, it's possibly tru that I cannot afford all of them. And i'm simply wondering if you HAD to pick one (hypothetical) as an all-around your favorite, which would it be? But since you ask, I'd be using this primarily on vocals and guitars (electric and acoustic). Occasionally percussion.
@@jeffreysbrother Well, in that case I would definitely pick the CL1B! At least for tracking that is. Some kind of a 1176 is VERY handy upon mixdown. The combination of those two is quite versatile! They are both tools, but the thing is, that the CL1B is like a very smooth fine brush - the 1176 is more like a hammer.
Can I ask, do you know roughly what the BAE 10DC was supposed to be based off? was it a 2264 or?
2254 I think 😊
@@torstenmatthiessen1801 Thank you!
Great review, really appreciated :). I'm fortunate enough to have a couple of these, really good comparison!! Thanks
You’re most welcome 😊
Thank you!
You are most welcome 😊
I like the sound of BAE in this one, Manley's EQ is great but comp is not my personal favorite
Amazing!!!
Super great!!!!!
:)
You explained so well better than any on Proximity Effect in just 1.54 min. Thanks for sharing🙏
Thank you, Rarnesh. Glad I could help ☺️
Where's the beautiful curve bender?
It went down the drain and got replaced by a GML 8200 eq, a Maselec MEA-2, a pair of D.W. Fearn VT-4’s and a VT-5 😉
@@torstenmatthiessen1801 Awesome, thanks!
Tube Tech!
wow. thats all i got to say.
Thank you for all the effort! To me, the XLS had the most usable reproduction. Dependant on the microphone position, you could prefer only those mics that exhibit some natural compression within their signal paths. The XLS was one of them. A pity the U87 wasn't part of this shootout. These days, so many microphones get released but tend to sound like crisp potato chips when tasked with recording the acoustic guitar. There is no imaginable arrangement where their sonics could eventually fit into. Truth is, there are only a handful of mics that you would allocate to this instrument. Also, I'm a bit shocked that the XL2 sounded so thin. But maybe in a MS situtation one could utilize this mic for the "Side" information, since you wouldn't need the low frequencies there. Again, thanks for the effort.
Great River - Hi Fi sounding, no, thanks. BAE - Great Chandler - Great Kush - Interest ? Summit (PEQ) - Worst PEQ of the comp Tube Tech - Correct but overpriced Manley - Correct but overpriced
Great River 0:12 BAE 3:11 Chandler 16:24 Kush 19:22 Summit (PEQ) 8:30 Tube Tech (PEQ) 10:56 Manley (PEQ)13:21
Can i hire You for vocals enhancing/mixing? ??
You can reach me at dualmonolab@gmail.com. Write me and we can take it from there ☺️
@@torstenmatthiessen1801 okkk
The TG would keep me happy for a long time. Tube Tech a close second but harder to set.
LTD-2 and zener all day
Preferred both Chandlers!
i personally oved the manley and the chandler zener! what a sweety (should be, when i look at its price) ;.)
To my ear: Chandler LTD sounded best for medium compression. Purple for the crushing compression. Manley for smooth and light touch compression. FATSO for adding color.
Purple Audio fucking rules
not sure if the operator has a clue of what he´s doing tbh
The Kush Audio Clariphonic is incredible, and I love the knobs/switches. Would it work as a Mix Bus EQ without another EQ? I feel like it would immediately be useful and practical for me (non-Engineer). $2k is a lot, but the others are a lot more. Wish there were more tutorials on it and reviews.
HOW DID HE GET A GOLD MASSIVE PASSIVE
It was an option in the beginning of the millenium. I think only a good handful units was produced.
bless this video and all its watchers
First one and last one.
Really like that tube tech pe 1a I’ve been Looking for one
I just snagged one out of a studio in Florida, this demo doesn’t do it justice
Everything you do is music! Even if you just turn knobs on an EQ (love this video) it is music!
Well, thank you - very much, Michael 🙏🏼😊
great gear but your studio look like a mess, damn it, get some proper furneture
what is this jack ass doing?
How about the DBX 160?
It's still very difficult to separate how much of this we are hearing is pure sonics and what is a result of the EQ design. The Curve Bender clearly is forgiving when compared to others and therefore hard to make it sound bad. It has tremendous resolution for fine tuning. I suspect all of these EQs are able to sound identical to each other but it would be very different to reach the same place with these different controls and designs.
Well done. Thank you for showing this.
Which hardware do you recommend me to a home studio recording in order to make new age music? Or only plugins is enough for me? Now I make all "in the box" Thanks.
ampuero music Hmmm, that is at best a difficult question to answer - most likely impossible. If you have interface and computer covered, I’d say a good analog synth. I love my SUB37! But if that’s the right one for you, only you will know.
And yes, plug-ins alone might do the job for you. Again - only you can tell 😉
@@torstenmatthiessen1801 oh thanks, I have a lot of synths, for example Moog Sub Phatty is one of them. Thanks, I think I need the great plugins instead hardware.
Amazing
Hey Torsten, do you know what the main difference is between the Purple MC76 and MC77?
Clariphonic for me
Miklos Vajda Music Yes, it is quite an unique piece of gear! 👍
@@torstenmatthiessen1801 I think you are very very lucky guy:) What do you think about KuSh Audio Electra?
Lucky? I don’t see why.. I have not had the chance to have my hands, or ears, on the Electra, but quite a few years has passed since this video. I must admit that currently I usually reach for the Maselec MEA-2 and the D.W.Fearn VT-5 on almost every mix.
helpful stuff, thanks
Rens van der Sluis Happy you found it useful 😀
Do you know any budget units like those?
Joney Jey Budget units like which ones of them?
Great video. Thanks for putting it together.
for all that awesome gear maybe you could have played back in stereo so audio isn't total shit. nice try tho
Chez Marolo like stereo on a single PE1A? 😉
Super hilfreich.
What micpre has been employed here?
Great River MP2-NV :-)
