(5) Playing Mah Jongg 4 Friends
Part 5 of The Absolutely Beginners Guide To American Mah Jongg: Playing Mah Jongg 4 Friends Online.
Several of my friends have expressed frustration at trying to download an app whether or not to do it on their phone or their tablet or their computer and what are the steps to setting it up and how in the heck do you play?
I downloaded the app at the beginning of my American Mah jong journey and I had no idea how to play. So somehow or another I taught myself and this is my video of you teaching the completely non-technological person how to set up the game and play.
I need to apologize. My voice is wavering because I am recovering from a respiratory illness.
In reviewing the video, I realize the first game that I showed you I didn’t show you how to do the Charleston so stay tuned because a little bit later in the video I go back through all the steps again.
I’m absolutely blown away by the number of people who have been watching these videos, clicking, like sharing them and subscribing to my channel! I’m so happy to provide these for absolute beginners in language that you can understand, at least that is my hope.
Please feel free to comment. Any suggestions you might have for future videos or particular questions you have about the game.
I have been working very hard at creating a fake American Mah Jongg card so that I can teach you how to play in the different categories. The actual card and all of its publications prior to 2024 is copyrighted. I cannot show it online.
I remind you, you must order your card through the National Mah Jongg League in New York . Other online platforms will often sell fake ones and you want the exact same card, the official one, when you go to a real game.
They will start taking orders in January for the 2025 card which should be mailed to you sometime in April 2025.

      @@sulagracehenrichsen6682 it’s very difficult to do. So I try to pick a category during the Charleston. Frequently, I’m not aware of what hand I am playing when the game starts. I try to make a decision in the middle of the first full wall. It just helps me to make that decision when the rest of the east wall is finished and then we are halfway through the next one if that helps. When I learn something completely new, that is difficult I sometimes rewatch videos over and over again.

      @@patwerne8168 in American Mah Jongg there are 8 flowers. The numbers and seasons written on them mean nothing. I watched a educational video of Hong Kong Mahjong before this. I see they are 2 different ways of playing. I think the HongKong method is less detailed and easier to learn. I DO know that I might wait until I learn one style of playing first rather well rather than learning both styles when each is new to me.

    Is there just a generic set of score options out there that can be used rather than having to follow this arbitrary set that organization comes out with every year? IE for casual gamers just have 4 sets and a pair or something?

    • @agould105
      @agould105 20 днів тому

      @@mafisk67 not that I am aware of. The majority of the hands are 25, as in $.25. The singles and pears category is always $.50 and there’s a couple thrown in there that are $.75 or $.30. It depends on the difficulty of the hand. However, where I play we don’t play for money at all so you don’t have to play for points. You can just play for fun. You can only win by playing the hands that are listed on the card. So you must have a card. Unfortunately, I cannot legally show any of the cards not even those from the 1990s on my videos so I am working on something that looks more like the card so I can explain it better, but go through the national Mahjong league and order the 2024 card. It will be good until April when the 2025 card comes out. Large online platforms have been known to print and sell counterfeit cards which don’t list the hands correctly.

    • @agould105
      @agould105 2 місяці тому

      OK, so the colors on the cards have nothing to do with choosing the suits. Meaning just because it’s printed in blue does not mean it has to be dots. The colors on the card on each hand designate how many suits you are supposed to use. So for example, if a hand is all in blue on the card, all of the tiles have to be the same suit. If the printed hand is blue and green, then you have to use two different suits, but it doesn’t matter which two.

    I have 12”x12” tiles. Any suggestions for a frame? It’s a wedding gift

      You could find a 14 inch or 16 inch square of wood and paint/stain it. There are some really heavy duty glued to use. I’ve used a clear sealant to “glue” glass pieces. You’d need to attach wire on the back and it would have to be attached very well as a 12 inch square tile will be heavy. You could also go to Michael’s or Hobby Lobby and see if their framing department could frame your piece in a “floating” frame.

    Where is Part 2? These are great videos but unless unless there is a Part 2 which would presumably be the set up of the game. I am really disappointed!!

      I’m not sure I understand. The beginning of the video shows how to set up the game. We scramble tiles then build walls to start. I hope this helps. Please let me know specifically what you’d like info on and I’ll try to make another video.

    What? Copyright infringement for the card to play the game? How do you “replay” the game?

      When you buy the card you use it to play the game. I chose not to use an official card in my videos. I’m not sure I understand your second question.

    Thank you for your video. I have just one question. Do you need to bake when you use the triple thick?

    • @agould105
      @agould105 5 місяців тому

      @@GlitznDesignbyJohanna I do not bake it. I do let it cure though I would say a week. Then hand wash only.
