Worldwide, they are known as:

From the time we adopted him as a teenage pup, Jack Flash has been a wonderful dog. We share all the things we have discovered about the breed since we adopted him. We train him using completely force-free methods. 🐾 This is also our first dog.

Giving Dogs Bones: How I Adapted My Dog to Eat Large Bones
lol the dog needs a certificate for the stupidity of humans drunk people in trains are the reason i would never do it with or without a piece of paper never again am i going to get left behind on a train station because of a drunk guy that cant repect a no
I don't plan on taking him on the train, but I was advised to get him one as it makes it easier for him as an assistance dog in situations where people will try and kick you out of a cafe or restaurant. Has already happened to me. Would definately not take him at night when all the drunks are out, that's for sure.
Why do you need a dog on the train?
Don't really plan on taking him. maybe very short trips on the rare occasion the cars in for a service.
My dream job is to be a dog sitter. I'm an HR manager LOL He seems to be a fine fellow to me. .
Your staff are probably far better behaved too!
I've noticed that the groomers where we live often can't take on new clients now. It didn't use to be like that. Maybe there are just fewer groomers around. But we can always get our Belgians groomed after a wait at a pet store nearby. Their groomers seem to really like our dogs and our dogs are happy there--especially the boy, who loves the attention. I never considered that their breed might have anything to do with whether they could get appointments--I'll keep that in mind. Jack is so pretty that I'd think a groomer would love to work with him.
Thanks for the kind words. I think a lot of the issue over here at least that by far the majority of dogs here are doodles of some kind and it's easy regular money. All I really want is to clip the hair under his feet and a bit of a trim. Don't need anything fancy.
A lot of dog groomers will just groom small dogs. The amount of money per hour is higher sticking to small breeds, so if you're established to the point you're booked out, it makes sense honestly. Most people are not willing to pay the amount of money to get their large breed groomed that would result in the same income to the groomer. I just bought a force dryer and will do it myself.
Mostly it was to trim the hair under his feet. Someone gave me a place where I can get a trimmer at a decent price, so I'll end up doing it myself.
He doesn't need the groomers he looks great the way he is
He's a good boy, always mistaken for a girl :) I was hoping for someone to see if he needed de-shedding since I have no experience with that, and to do a bit of trimming.
I sympathise, there can be a lot of flakey people in these areas of work! We've had lots of communication fizzle out too, I'm not sure if some of them get a bit turned off because it's not a nice "easy" breed. My boy is still a lot more wary of other people than Jack is, so he needs a very confident handler. It's been more expensive but more effective for us to have 2 - 3 paid meetups with potential sitters first. First meeting is a 30 minute walk around his usual park, if that goes well we'll have a second meet at the park and walk back to the house, third meeting is the sitter coming directly to the house and spending 10 - 15 minutes alone with him (if we get to this stage it's pretty much a sure thing). We've managed to find a few brilliant people that he loves that way.
My wife has always mentioned who will walk Jack if I get sick, as he won't even walk with her as he wants me to come. It's going to take a lot of patience for sure to get a stranger to walk him.
FYI - I never take my SD on escalators unless I have to do so. I use the elevator.
Yes, I found out later than if there are no elevators, I am to pick Jack up at an escalator. So it's not part of the training at all as they can get a serious injury if their claw gets caught in the escalator. I guess in other countries the safety aspect ts not an issue for a dog to use an escalator.
I honestly believe Groenendaels are one the most beautiful breeds.
I just love the way Jack prances around. It's much easier to see in real life.
Im surprised she had you take him to a busy supermrket day 1 - Your poor boy is so stressed he's drooling.
Drooling is natural for him. He drools more when its hotter, but always drooling.
Getting snappy at someone touching him can get him banned from the stores because it will be considered aggression - People aren't supposed to pet them but people, and kids especially, will.
He doesn't bite, and being snappy as a warning he doesn't want to be touched isn't even a criteria here as a assistant dog the assessor told me.
Très beau et intelligent chien !!! 👍
Thank you for these interesting videos of Jack! I have a 8 month old Groenendael male so this is particularly valuable to me.
I’m glad you found it useful! 🐶
Excellent! Thanks for your continuing adventures. Where are you located?
Thanks for watching! Jacks at Brisbane, Australia
My little girl runs the house. When she want to do something she will tell you and is relentless until she gets her way. I love this breed, but you can’t be a couch potato.
100% agree!
I would never give chicken bones to any dog.
Whats wrong with raw chicken? Are you confusing this with cooked chicken bones which I would never feed Jack,

There is a part 2 coming that shows his public access test walkthrough to determine what needs to be trained.
Really interesting. I wish I could give this video 10 likes. It sounded like she was calling him Flash. Is his full name Jumpin Jack Flash? 😀
Thank you! Yes that is his actual full name, well done! I call him Flash or Jack,
@ I love that. 😎
Can anybody just have a working dog so they can take them wherever they go ? I would love that
You need to have a disability of some type. In this country at least.
You have to have a life debilitating disability that the dog is trained in one or more tasks to mitigate. Otherwise your dog does not have public access rights and it’s not legal to take the dog in to non pet friendly places. Not just any working dog has public access rights, just assistance dogs/service dogs (depending on where you live) because they are needed to provide those tasks that help mitigate the handler’s disability.
@@genna09 perhaps an organ transplant can be a disability? Because then it would be possible for me at least
❤ black dogs at night ♥️ Jack is so beautiful and engaged with what goes on around him. I enjoy watching our Belgians enjoying the world. They're very much related to Jack.
Thanks so much. We did come across a ring tailed possum but got so engrossed I forgot to film it.
Awww jack 😄
I try and play this game every day.
@ yes they love the fun games
Where you live looks really beautiful. Those plants. And fluffy black fauna. ♥️🐺
Brisbane Australia. Dirty black fauna haha
Dogs = joy. Great for our mental health! I loved this video and that music was perfect. The brown weiner dog had some words for you--what did you do? 😂♥️
I agree 100%. Not sure about the weiner. It was just the 1.
Do you play ball or frisbee with Jack?
He's not really into balls and stuff. He's more into rope tugging. He will chase big sticks in water though.
Mariachi music kind of works for Jack.
It sounds like action music!
Party music! ♥️
Beautiful!
Thank you!
How old your dog friend girl or boy
He is 2 years now
Please let him run through the field, I need it!
Oh he does that too!
Loving the breeze from that fan! Beautiful dog!!!
Thank you! I guess it's like him sticking his head out the car window
Just wait until he finds the mist off of a pressure washer. Mine stands infront of me to get misted lol
Funny enough very recently he's started to enjoy being hosed off too. So I'm sure he will love that mist.
@@JackTheGroenendael yea man, theyre such a unique breed. I dont think there is very much that they cant understand.
Gorgeous coat!😍
Thank you! 😊
We were at the vet's today too! It's taken months to get him comfortable with the staff there. He doesn't like them rummaging around and doing check ups either but will happily accept a cuddle from all the nurses.
Good to hear! It's also taken a long time to be comfortable with people approaching him for a pat. My boy felt uneasy the moment I stepped into the vett, possible the same reason I hate walking into a hospital.
Eat for seeing eye and support dogs
I'm having Jack assessed in a few weeks as an assistance dog myself.
sounds more like you and others like you are actually the problem! your dog should not be running up to anyone else's dog uninvited or people, if that is happening your dog is out of control and needs lost more training and kept on a long line until it can stop that behaviour - that is exactly how fights happen. why are you allowing your dog to crowd the gate....that is all on you and you're the moron for allowing your dog to exhibit that behaviour! people should be able to get through the gate without your dog being up in their dogs face. truth of the matter is you have limited control over your dog and you are blaming others for not wanting your dog involved in their play session. I wouldn't use a dog park unless it is empty and to practice recall in a safe area, I wouldn't bother going into them otherwise, most folk cannot control their dog or read body language. as evident in what this guy and other are allowing their dogs to do. what ever happened to playing with your own dog? dogs do not need to be playing with random dogs that you know jack all about, that's a recipe for disaster, they need to be playing and training with you, they are not public property. I go through the park walking, playing and training my dog and I'm lucky if I see 1 other person playing with their dog, most just walk around, their dogs are bored AF.
In a perfect world where everyone puts the time and effort in to train a dog, a dog park would be great. As it is not a perfect world I would not take my dogs anywhere near a dog park. Just my opinion.
The only reason I even take him there is he gets to sprint flat out, which is a bit hard to do on the trails.
You seem like a really nice guy, but can I say, the reason a lot of owners wouldn't want your dog near them or coming up to them is because their dog is reactive, through fear or stress, and this would really upset them and might even trigger them to get aggressive. Reactive dogs also need exercise, and I don't really understand why it's a problem for you to keep your dog away from other dogs unless the owner says their dog is good with others. You say that their dog might get upset if your dog approaches, and thats the "only problem" but as an owner of a fear reactive border collie I can tell you it's a BIG problem when other owners let their dogs come up unsolicited as it can undo weeks of training and end up in bad situations. There must be dog owners who are happy for their dogs to interact with yours. I would try to consider it from both points of view and see if You can't find people who are happy to let their dog play. when I first had my baby as a puppy I didn't understand why some people would just walk their dog away from us, and Iwas upset, but when my dog developed fear reactivity based on being attacked in a park by a dog that just came up to her unsolicited, even now at 6 years she never got over it, and now I understand that not alldogs are okwith other dogs. Take care and enjoy your beautiful dog :)
Not sure if you have dog parks where you are, but they are off leash. fenced areas expressly for dogs. All the dogs are free roaming. That. said, when I am just walking Jack around other areas like s streets or trails, he generally (and me too). don't meet and greet other. dogs. I know what you mean, I have many owners walk their dog right into Jacks face. Luckily he's rarely reactive.
@@JackTheGroenendael not specifically dog parks, but we do have parks where dogs are allowed off lead. i think that my point is to be aware his behaviour, even though he doesn't mean anything could be problematic to some dogs, especially as he's hanging around the entrance and they can't gain access without going past him. If it were me, I would politely ask you to move him out of the way but you seem a long way off from him so not easy for an ownere to know what to do. Not trying to ctitisise, as Isaid, I used to wonder why other owners dind't want my youngBC coming up to their pup and I found it upsetting till I learned more about reactivity.
Yes I agree. Generally I will go grab him when someone comes to the park and hold him for about 30 seconds. It makes a big difference. Sometimes I get distracted.
i'd never take any dog of mine to a dog park, it's bad enough dealing with idiot owners out in the real world without dealing with them and their out of control dogs in a confined space ! canines have their own pack , they dont need park buddies !
I mainly take Jack for herding mostly and for sprinting. Which is a bit hard for me to do anywhere else. But yes, I go into a dog park at quiet times. and have a good look who's there first.
I get you for the most part. But seems you are not totally innocent. You have a dog with pushy, dominant, herding instinct and let it do it to random dogs trying to get in the park. That's a bit annoying and some people and dogs for that matter will not like that. Dog parks suck for the most part. Glad I can let my fiesty Doberman run in empty fields and rough to chase rabbits and deer. He does have a couple of friends but otherwise all the other dogs are fkn nuts. One attacked Max the other week on the farm track. He then learned that a Doberman is a Judo master. 😂
Don't you just hate unleashed dogs running up in your dogs face? Has happened to me multiple times. But alas, I am in the city, I don't have large fields to run the dog without worrying about traffic and other obstacles.
@JackTheGroenendael Yup! A Jack Russell also did it a few weeks ago at a castle. I was walking Max back along the castle drive on lead.. A Jack appeared and kicked off in his face. 🤔😆. 👍🙏👊
I agree with your comments about some owners who think they've done their duty by bringing their dog to the park while they spend their time socialising or on their phone that they're not keeping an eye on the dog. My Groenendael x Border Collie loves our local park on the GC. He's well know as we live only a couple of hundred metres from the park and he's very friendly and sociable with other dogs but is very ball focused. Some dogs will want to steal my dog's ball and he lets them a few times but he eventually get's the shits when he doesn't get it back. Sadly, some owners are more concerned about the warning growls my dog gives to these repeat offenders than actually trying to correct their dog for doing the wrong thing.
Hey, I take Jack occasionally to the GC and take him to that large DP in Broadbeach. Almost every time he makes a bee line for the water to go for a swim.
I have a Mal, and would never dream of taking him to a dog park. It's a recipe for disaster. He's happy around me, dogs he knows, and there is no need for him to make friends with every other dog. Good luck with yours though.
Yeah, I tend to agree. I think his energy levels are just too much for all the doodle / non working breeds. I think my time is getting limited now.
@@JackTheGroenendael What I have found with mine, is that mental exercise wears him out much quicker than running/walking alone, and as you know a tired dog is a happy dog.
@@tonycole9593 There are a ton (ok so like 4-5) of GSD/Husky mixes that go on the regular to the one I go to that are high energy rough play. There are also dogs there that really just want to explore alone and they usually let the other dogs know.
@@erinhardick4803 Lets say for example, someone rocks up with a Cane Corso, completely untrained, and it frightens the life out of your dog. It can take months or years to undo one bad experience. Its not the dogs that concern me, it's irresponsible owners with un socialised dogs. Why risk it?
@ you can minimize risk by carefully observing dogs entering. If your dog has good recall you have a good chance at keeping them safe. It’s a personal choice, not for everyone.
I take my GSD/Husky 6 days a week. For 2 years now I got him at 1yr old. Only once has he gotten a single puncture. If there are a bunch of dogs at the gate I use body pressure to get me and my dog a path in. The only time I have done hands on is to grab a collar either in a minor fight or to pull down a humper off someone else’s dog that doesn’t say no. My dog will give another dog he likes 3 seconds if he doesn’t know the dog it is an immediate no get off my butt.
Jack is an offender at the gate too. But I always go grab him before someone comes to give the new dog room. It really helps a lot.
Belgium shepherds are the best. I've been scared of dogs my whole life. I still am a little bit , except for my brother's dog. He's a kind loving Belgium shepherd, just like yours. He was attacked by another dog when he ~8 months old) and it was very scary. I can't imagine going to a dog park with him. I am too scared of what the other dogs might do. I know socialising is important but I can't go trough that again. I try to play with him and only go around my friends dogs because I know they are safe dogs. I love watching your channel because my brother moved and I don't get to see the his dog as often.
Yes they are the best! One thing I like about the dog park is when it's really quiet, bigger breeds like a staffy will want to wrestle with him. They go at it for half an hour sometimes. This is when there are only 2 to 3 dogs in the park which is usually what it's like when I go.
We stopped going to the dog park years ago for all of the reasons you mentioned. Jack's park looks huge compared to ours--a potentially great space. It's too bad that people don't bother to educate themselves about their dogs and dog behavior in general.
I still take him for getting him to run flat out, but I am very careful to observe what dogs are in the park, and now I take him in the quiet hours.
@ It's too bad about the parks. Some dogs really like to play with others. Sometimes I feel our dogs are missing out on the fun. Our girl Lilyhammer aka Lily loves playing with other dogs. She gets a little rambunctious with them which doesn't always go over well, but she's just trying to get them to play. I think Lily and Jack would really like each other. Too bad they live in opposite hemispheres. 😎
Too bad. 99% of the time Jack loves to run after dogs. Even though Jack isn't a wrestling type, he will play that game too occasionally.
My dog has a play date at my home with his bff. The other dog got attacked over a ball and the owner hasn’t brought her back. Otto ly been a bit she just healed up. It a GSD/Husky and a GSD/Mal they play rough together. People that don’t know them think they are fighting.
Jack has a normal Belgian temperament , my boy was the same but i also spent alot of time training for worst case scenarios .
Yes, I need to spend more time on.getting his recall more reliable. It's not there yet with the distractions of a dog park.
@ which park do you go to in Gold Coast or brissie?
Usually the ones in my area (NW Brisbane) and if I visit family the gigantic dog park at Broadbeach on the Gold Coast. That has a mini beach for the dogs to swim in.
HAPPY CHAPPY!!!
Oh yeah!
Good Morning Mummy!!!😂
He's started to carry on when she leaves the car to go to work too now. Have too film that.
Did Jack ever calm down, and at what age? My girl is 8 months old and kind of a terror. I know they are an energetic breed, but my god, lol.
Jack is 27 months old now. And he has calmed down a bit. He doesn't play much anymore, he's definitely adopted t he serious adult demeanor now. He hates thunderstorms so on those days he gets very little exercise, but he seems pretty chill to just lie next to me. He does need a hug or pat every 30 minutes though!
