I'd recommend incorporating honey as a sweetener if you want a bit of sweetness in the palette as honey was also very common, even amongst peasants, throughout medieval Europe.

Nevím, ale podle mě rosol znamená prostě vývar. Třeba dokonce do teď v polsku klasickému vývaru říkají rosół.

In medieval times, when rice was not yet brought to Europe, they had to make it from semolina. I know such a thing called semolina cutlets (they can be sweet or with raisins). If you make it in the form of lamb and add milk jelly (it is usually sweet), it will be great.

A staple at my house in Northern Germany when I grew up . My Mom used to use Griebenschmalz - the german version of lard - to fry whatever meat came into the soup that day . Plus, she was fancy : a dollop of Schmand / Sour Cream to finish it of 😎 We had a big bucket of homemade sauerkraut in the larder at all times 🥳 Way to go for the down to earth factor of your descriptions 👌

Absolutely agree and thank you very much! I think historically Czech and German cuisine have a lot in common. Yes I know of Grießenschmalz, that little lardons in fat are delicious just on bread with salt and a maybe a little gherkin :)

Sure, simly omit the paprika, and use double cream directly into the soup instead of sour cream. As for potatoes, either leave them out or use some sort of carbs (bread croutons, pearl barley or little dumplings from flour and butter 2:1) :)

Just made this. Substituted parsley for the parsley root and omitted lovage (both not available here.) I also forgot the bread but don't regret it. The result was delicious! And really nice to eat with a slice of sourdough. :)

Having made this every Easter since this video was published, I'd like to share a tip that may help one reduce the effort and time needed to knead the dough during the first stage. You can employ the self-kneading technique. After mixing in the flour as per the video, stir it enough so that it's roughly homogenous, I do it with a hand mixer. Then cover the bowl with a towel and leave for 15-20 minutes. After that, knead it with a spoon as shown. It will take way less effort and just a couple of minutes to get the silky and non-stick texture you are looking for. Especially helpful when you have a large family and want to make many mazanců.

@@ondrejbacik6273 paprika (plodina i koření) se do Evropy, potažmo evropské kuchyně dostala až v 16.století. Resp. Dle dostupných pramenů je o ní zmínka až touto dobou. Pokud ji někdy někdo využíval dříve, tak to nikam nezapsal.

Looks wonderful! My husband is Bavarian, the only difference in Bavarian version of this meal is the potato pancakes would be a potato dumpling! In Oberpfalz region (very close to Czech border) they call these dumplings spotzen - I must try these “pancakes” too!
