I once read somewhere that this won the Action for Children's Television (ACT) award. I'm not saying this to be giving Peggy Charren and her group good PR, I honestly think she really had absolutely no business openly endorsing the baby-ish Zoobilee Zoo and the Fox Kids cartoon Where on Earth is Carmen SanDiego, she knew full well what she was doing back in the 70's pushing shows like Schoolhouse Rock, Time for Timer, the CBS Children's Film Festival, and the ABC Weekend/Afterschool Specials. But however, I'm only posting this just if anybody happens to come across reading this, to think twice about her and ACT dragging down children's TV in censorship and political correctness, or, that she's going to force kids to watch Sesame Street every day. (No offense to Linda Bove if she should come across this, I'm not at all agreeing with any of it, it's just what I read about her forcing the ultra-violent kids' show Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future off the air.) All Peggy Charren and ACT were trying to do was create more of a diverse, mixed bag of programs for kids and their families to enjoy. But Zoobilee Zoo and Where on Earth is Carmen SanDiego?, NO WAY, FORGET IT.

Is this ASL? It seems a little more (at least Elaine's) signed english.

The short answer is 'mostly no'. Being as I grew up with SEE (Signing Exact English) and reviewing the signs used, it looks like a form of signed English to me. Both Linda and Elaine appear to be using proper structure, grammar, and is communicating with a very simple form of English for children to understand. Linda relies a little more on the vocabulary habits of ASL. You would see her use the sign 'me' for both the words 'I' and 'me' at 1:24. With SEE you would sign an 'I' to the chest to represent the word 'I', as you can see with Elaine in 1:40.

@mstodhh You are welcome! I used to watch this as a kid myself, too. Like yourself I wanted to share this video with the world. I don't think this gem should disappear simply because it was on VHS!
