SIU Improvisation Unit (SIUIU) Concert ft. Michael Williams
On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, we had the honor and privilege to work with St. Louis-based guitarist Michael Williams. He gave a workshop during our class session at noon the same day, and we combined concepts we had previously been working on with his teachings during our concert that evening. We improvised for just under an hour. Feel free to skip around to see how our soundscape evolved!

This improvisation has a sense of beauty and calm, but it is cold and melancholy as well. We used Brian Eno's ambient noise app called Bloom for the background noise of this improvisation. I envision oceanic tides rolling in and out when I listen to this improvisation. In this improvisation, you can hear multiple different musical ideas occurring simultaneously. I think of the flowy lines as water in the lake, the short bursts of energy as little fish jumping at the surface of the water, and chirpy figures as birds in the forest canopy.
