And that my friend is why they invented and mandate using the guard for all applications no matter how light. If you would have had the guard on positioned on the back half of the grinder so the front half disc was exposed, it would have spun off the guard and jettisoned itself forward and away from you. There's a reason guards are made and necessary for safety, even for paper thin sanding and abrasion pads. Side note, probably the best safety gear/PPE set up I've seen in a quite some time. Glasses, respirator, hearing protection, gloves...top marks for all those.
