Piano is a language

Приєднався 16 бер 2007
I'm passionate about studying, languages in particular.
I started learning to play the piano in December 2020, thanks to work from home.
This is my piano progress channel.
I'm studying piano just like I studied other languages: full immersion!
2024 piano goals: performing pieces as much as I can to build confidence,
1000 hours of practice in a year.
I upload a new video every week, sometimes 2 videos a week :)

I finished reading Book 1 twice on the 6th of June 2024. I don't think I'll finish the 30/40 piece challenge in 2024 🤷♀️. Subscriber count today: 640.

A trip down memory lane part 2 😍 The pieces I chose as "firsts" are not necessarily the easiest of the composers, but one of the easiest for sure. ☺️ You can read comments and watch time stamps in the comments below. Hopefully one day I'll be able to do a live commentary lol. 00:00 My first Bartok and first time using rubato. This piece is very short but I remember practising it for a very long...

Schumann Kinderszenen Op. 15 N. 11 "Frightnening" Still very autobiographical with this piece. I was the pleading child a few weeks ago because of all the scary things happening. 😰 I love the contrast of feelings in this piece! This one is graded ABRSM Grade 6, but I found it harder than the "Pleading child" which is Grade 7. Grades are obviously subjective but I found these ones quite absurd. ...

Did anyone notice I memorised this and I’m not reading? 🥲
Keep it up, my friend!
Aww thank you for the encouragement! I stopped playing it when I got injured 😭 I should pick it back up though!
@@piano.is.a.language Oh I'm sorry for your accident.. Get well soon!
@@Ek1yo Thank you! I’m alright now, I’m just being lazy lol
*---You are such an inspiration for me because I admire your commitment and self-discipline at learning the piano. You did really good, as 2h 45 min per day is definitively a good piano practice time. Keep your wonderful journey learning the piano, you the wonderful woman from London, UK (I saw your video on going to see Angela Hewitt's concert on the 13th of June 2024 in London at Wigmore Hall. She is such a great pianist!).* *---I was sad to hear about your right wrist problem, I hope you are better on this matter. Hey Michael, thank you for your comment and for following my journey! I'm very happy it's inspiring someone out there, I'm still very passionate about piano and music, so I'll probably post updates for a long time 😂 Yes Angela's concert was great! And my wrist is fine, thank you for asking :) I'll definitely check the videos, thank you for sharing!
Congratulations indeed for your progress and your commitment!
Thank you Massimo! 😊
Good result anyway! Congratulations! I think, your the biggest achievement is making content on your channel. So it's not onli content, it is "booster" for piano studying and recording videos helps cope with stage anxiety .
Awww that’s a great point of view, thank you! That’s probably true too, it helps 😊
@piano.is.a.language yeah, recording yourself and subsequent analysis of own playing (both audible and visual) is powerful instrument for progression. Now I thinking about streaming with piano ))) just tried chat roulette but should to say it's very hard to find any adequate listener) but keep trying)
@ True! Teachers’ feedback is also greatly useful ☺️ good luck in your research!

omgg its nice,, could u pls give me some tips for sight reading coz rn i learn my fav music by seeing the synthesia videos :*) so how to sight read from basic plss help <333
Hi Fedrick! I suggest you buy/download some piano learning books such as the Alfred or the Piano adventures series, I mentioned both in the descriptions. I followed those and slowly learned to read notes with them. Good luck! 😀

Wonderful Mozart performance!!!! Wonderful 4 years progress!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you Chris!
That was really nice to listen to and watch. Especially loved doggo napping, mine run and hide when I practice. I'm so glad to see you back playing after your recovery break.
Thank you Ruben! Yes it’s nice to be back, even though I’m still taking it slow 😊 ahah my dog runs away too when I play scales 😂
bravoooo
Grazie mille 😀
This works nicely! I like Mozart‘s fantasy 🤩
Thank you! Me too, I love it 😍

28 hours? Really? Very nice 😊
Yeah is it a lot or not enough? 😂
@@piano.is.a.language it's not a lot for this piece. I would spend 50+ to learn it.
@ oh I see! Mmmh I find that most of the pieces I learn take me around 30h. Considered that this is a Grade 7 it should have actually took me much less 🤷🏼♀️
self-taught too....i always play slow but never too slow....speed will just come naturally later....i never look at the dynamics, i improvise and i never used a metronome....its just a distraction....i used my Ipad Pro to read my scores and bought a foot pedal from Amazon to swipe the pages back and forth
Interesting, thank you for sharing ☺️
I can't imagine what you must be feeling after an injury, I admire your determination and courage! All the best;)

Thank you Massimo, really appreciate it 😊
Disclaimer: This is the time that took ME to learn and record these pieces after 3 years of practice. Everyone is different and results/time will different based on your experience, situation, learning skills, motivation, stress... I could go on forever. Always focus on improvement :D
My current piece to learn. Great playing 😊
Oh nice! Are you learning the whole sonata or just this movement? 😊
Just this movement. I'm afraid I'll need time to learn it but I like it so much.
@@berniesbel8595 It is very pretty, enjoy! 😃
That’s why I use the good old wooden 4 leg chairs made for pianists instead, more comfortable, durable and most importantly, quiet!
Yes! I upgraded to that type a couple of months ago, much better! 🤣
Wonderful performance!✨ I like Schumann' music
Thanks a lot! I love Schumann too, this collection in particular ☺️
Beautiful. Will be my next piece to learn.
Nice, good choice! :D

Great performance! Can you tell me how did you practice the polyrhythm?
Thank you! I learned both hands separately and perfectly first. I then got used to count each rhythm out loud, especially the triplet, and finally put both hands together very slowly, with metronome. Hope it helps 😊
Wonderful rendition 🤩 I love all those character changes!
Thank you ❤️
What can you gather from my notes? Apart from the fact that I've been studying very diligently. 😌 Background music is Tchaikovsky's "The Seasons - January" played by Olga Scheps.
당신의 Touch는 마음을 어루만지는 마법의 손이군요 정말 정말 섬세하고 부드럽게 피아노를 어루만지니 피아노가 너무나 아름다운 소리로 당신에게 화답하는군요❤❤❤❤
Awww thank you very much 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Really amazing progress. I was self-taught back in the 80s when I learned myself (there was no internet back then so I was self-taught entirely and learned by ear). On a funny side note, I saw another video and thought I'd just discovered you today but that you seemed familiar until I realized I saw something of yours awhile back, remembering it. I'm so happy for you that this is doing so well. It's your so far first 10K+ view video (an awesome milestone) and is on track to be your first 50K+ view video (another excellent milestone).
Thank you Altoona, that's very nice of you! This is my only video that got a lot of views, people only seem to be interested in 1 year progress 🤣 I also noticed that unfortunately most people give up after a year or two. I honestly play and upload because I enjoy it, if I did it for views I would have given up a long time ago ahah You're doing great too! Thanks for passing by.
@@piano.is.a.language Yeah, most people tend to give up sadly. I think it might be that learning some pieces can be intimidating for a lot of people. Or they find they were more in love with the _idea_ of being a musician than actually being one. That's why I think (and this is an unpopular opinion among classical musicians) someone should play around with the piano for at least a year before deciding to take piano lessons or not, since they can build a small base to build from and first find out just how much they love piano (or not). And by "piano" I'm including keyboards (which are excellent for beginners and for professionals who are always on the go or have limited space, a digital piano is portable and can be stored in the back of a car and taken places, a real piano is best ideally, key word _ideally_ in this case). Definitely agree about the views thing. I average like 250-600 apiece despite being on here for 12+ years, but still have fun (and then there's one of mine pushing a million and two others over 100K, and they aren't even my best work, haha).
Interesting idea that people fall in love with the idea of being a musician instead of actually being one, I never thought of that. For me it’s totally different, I just feel a deep urge to sit at my piano and play and listen to piano music 24/7. Do you feel the urge to produce new music? Yeah UA-cam it’s very hard unless you follow trends. I’ll check out your videos when I have a moment ☺️
@@piano.is.a.language Yep, I get these sudden urges and ideas to create a new composition. It'll come out of nowhere and I'll record even when tired. I do have creative droughts though, usually I make about one song a week, but in 2021, after my mom died I barely made anything new. From March 8 - December 31 of 2021, I made only one new composition (in early October) then in 2022 I only made three (January, July, December), then in 2023 I got my mojo back, and creativity came back full swing in January 2024 (almost a year ago, wow has it really been a year? Time sure flies)
That’s quite normal, our mind works best only when it’s at peace, especially with creativity. I think you’re doing great! 😃
You're amazingly talented! Especially amazing given you've only been playing for not quite 4 years. It took me a good ten years to get to the level you are now from when I began back in the 80s (and my earliest compositions in 1988-1992 reflected that I still had a lot to learn at the time, didn't even know how to read sheet music back in 1988). My one older brother took up electric guitar in 1980 and that inspired me to take up piano/keyboard. Awesome to discover you today.
That's very interesting, thank you! Online resources and different education style definitely help a lot these days :)
@@piano.is.a.language Completely agree. I'm happy for people beginning now that they don't have to have at least quasi-perfect pitch in order to be self-taught (the only other options were VHS piano lessons and they were, well........the people who made them tried their best, that's the nicest way I can put it, haha). PS: I realized I saw something of yours awhile back. My memory ain't what it used to be.
Oh boy I’m glad it’s not like that anymore! Definitely don’t have perfect pitch lol. Ahah happy to know the algorithm sometimes works and glad to have you back!
Even though I don't know what this song's about, I love the way how it sounds like, it's so soothing to listen to, too! Lovely video, my friend. I hope you have an awesome week.
Thank you very much! I agree. You have a nice week too :)
I love this little character piece! And I feel the suffering of the child in your playing - fantastically interpreted 👏🏻
I love it too! Thank you 😍
This piece is short and easier than the pieces I have been playing for the last few months. It's graded ABRSM Grade 7 but I wouldn't give it more than a Grade 5. I'm being real here, no matter what you're learning, people will have ups and downs and I'm currently unable to practice as many hours as I was practising earlier this year. Still, no matter what I'm playing, I am making progress as long as I play something. The only non-progress is doing nothing. :D There are so many people on UA-cam that start a channel and then stop playing after a few months to a couple of years, it's sad. 🙃 I've also gotten quite autobiographical with this piece. 🥲 Recorded: 19 Sep 2024 Hours practised: 90 minutes
I played this piece recently also😅😅
Really? What a coincidence 😃
