"Real ale" went out of fashion in the 50's and 60's due to it not having a long enough shelf life and basically too many bad pints served. Whitbreads, stones, tetleys etc created what some might call bland beer, but it was consistent and the drinker knew that they'd get the same product every time ( as long as the lines and glasses were clean). "Real ale" is overpriced, random af to find and India pale ale...well...it went out with the ark then suddenly reinvented itself as alcoholic lilt, terrible stuff, the only way they can keep pace with the waste by not producing it in the 60's 70's way ( long lasting) is by massively overpricing it. I do like a craft stout though but refuse to pay over 4.50 a pint, anymore and you're getting your tache ripped off lol.
