Yup, they're small. It's like EBMM Silhouettes. The headstock is shorter with the 4x2 tuners, along with the smaller body, especially the length, or space, behind the bridge. BTW, I'm also 5'5" and when I see pics of me onstage, they're actually a better fit for me. But, there's no way I'll ever give up my Les Pauls, SGs, Strats, Teles, and all the rest! Lol For the price, and if your friend thinks its got good 'bones', I'd be tempted because I've always liked the size and shape. Upgrades are easy, but not if a fret job is needed and the fit and finish is bad.

The reason why I don't worry about the Pearl Crystal beat - and why it's the only acrylic set I'd trust - is because Pearl Lifetime warranty is solid. That's just really weird tho. I'm getting a crazy deal on one of those because of some tiny cracks around the air-vent, which not only can be repaired, but it's also still under warranty (showroom) and for some reason the drumshop hadn't sent the bd back but I'm pretty sure I can get another one.
