D8K TV. Videos and fun with old Caterpillar D8K’s.
Just pushing some dirt on a nice sunny day with the D8K. Dependable and reliable machines.#d8k#dozer
Pushing some dirt around and leveling the area. Any excuse for my dad to get on the D8. He's been operating cats for over 50 years and he still loves it. After watching the video I think the tracks needed to be shoveled. But when you are 75, that's a job for your sons. Apparently we missed the memo when he told us to shovel out the tracks....

Small adjustment to get the front idler aligned in the rail. Needed another D8K to pull it.

When we lifted the cat up it shifted sideways a small amount. Wanted to line it back up on the rails before removing the left track frame. Luckily could borrow a D8K for that job.

Track frame repair or replacement?? Update on the undercarriage replacement!! #d8k

We were able to find a couple used track frames that we were going to use. That is until they arrived and we inspected them. Not what we were hoping for honestly. The existing ones were in way better condition. Let us know in the comments what you think caused the journals to crack in the replacement track frames we got.

When was the last time that they have been serviced?
Not sure when they were last serviced. We purchased them to put on our D8K as replacements because one of the lower rollers had seized on our existing one and damaged the journal it mounts in on the track frame. We thought it would be quicker and easier to get these frames, do a service on them and install them. But when we got them home and flipped them over to inspect them, we found they were in very poor condition. Here is a link to the video we made when we first started looking them over. ua-cam.com/video/_scnHwXyIMg/v-deo.htmlsi=d_pMo9y1t8mXBSEr
@JB-D8Ktv So what did you end up doing?
@@keithfritz1990 We are in the process of repairing the original track frames. Had to have a couple journals welded up and then they will go the machine shop for line boring. We will do our best to document and post the repair as well. We spoke to the machine shop owner already and he said he was fine with us filming in his shop and showing the line boring process. Hopefully we can get that done soon. 👍🏼. We are looking forward to getting it all back together and back in use. Thanks for watching.
Time for a bath and then clean up
Smooth blade hand, no motocross jumps. Nice. Like the working speed easy on the old girl.
No motocross jumps….lol. Love it!! He’s got a fair bit of experience alright. He is always gentle on the equipment for sure. Thanks for watching!!
Very good video 🎉
How are you going to get a bale spear through that 😂

Nothing like working out in the "Big" shop. That track frame looks good. Wear guards underneath. Roller guards look good. Hopefully not too many broken bolts. Have fun.
@@DougDrain it’s nice working outside in the good weather! Only a couple of broken bolts so not too bad so far. We’ll keep at it see what else we find. 😁
Very nice sharing🎉 good work🎉 stay connected with me always❤ new subscriber 👍👍👍🔔🔔🔔🎁🎁✌️✌️♥️♥️
And now the real fun begins. Nothing beats rebuilding track frames.
Absolutely. It’s going to be some work alright but you always feel a sense of accomplishment when it’s done. And feel a sore back too!! lol
I will also add that doing anything on a large piece of equipment like that, is back breaking work! Because of how heavy it is.
My first thoughts were they dismantling the cat for repairs or scrap? And I was hoping that it was not for scrap? Because anything like that is worth repairing? Only because of how all of the parts were laying around the area? But I really didn't think that it was for scrap? But it crossed my mind though? Great job and a great video! Thanks for sharing this with us and have a great day
Thanks for checking out the video! We definitely aren’t scrapping it. It was just way overdue for some new undercarriage. The more we took it apart the more we found that needed some repair and attention. The track frames themselves need some welding done on them. The rest of the dozer is in great condition with quite a bit of work done on it recently. It’s definitely a runner and we are looking forward to getting it repaired and put back together. Stay tuned for more videos!!
Remove the dozer and frame first. Be glad they no longer have a master pin.
That’s definitely the easier way to do it for sure. We had to do it this way because we don’t have a crane or loader big enough to lift the front up. So we had to use the C frame to lift it up onto the blocks then remove the C frame. Not as convenient for sure but it still worked. Thanks for watching!
@@JB-D8Ktv You drive it onto 2 big blocks until the front is high and the machine is balanced, block the front tight, lift up the machine with the ripper and remove the 2 big blocks under the tracks then block the ripper at the brackets. Easy. Anyway you do what works. Makes dozer fixin' fun. D8 parts, too big for muscles too small for a crane. Good job boys.
@@DougDrainThanks for the good suggestion! Never thought of doing it that way. Makes sense for sure. That’s the nice thing about UA-cam and video sharing is that there are others out there like you who share their experience to help others. Appreciate you sharing that and thanks for watching as we work through this and keep these older dozers running strong.
After 30 odd yrs of pushing dirt n forestry roading etc, D7s ,D8s , D8ts , my favourite was always the D8k .... sound good , push good n just feel gr8... looks like youv gotta couple of tidy classics there ... awesum
Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!! 30 yrs experience is a really good cross section to draw from! That’s a lot of hours in the seat for sure. Appreciate you watching and commenting!! We are doing our best to keep these old machines well maintained and running good. We really enjoy them and are happy to see others who enjoy them as well.
❤❤❤Great work nothings simple when your dealing with earthmoving gear 👍👍👍Keep up the great work Australia watching
Absolutely agree! Nothing ever seems to go as easy as it seems it should. Thanks for the encouragement!! We’ll keep at it. Cheers from Canada. 👍🏼👍🏼❤️❤️
why didn't you remove the blade first?
@Jpaydirt. Hi Jeff, first off we really enjoy your channel. It’s a pleasure to see you keeping the old iron working. You do great work!! We have been keeping a close eye on the new undercarriage being put on the D9G. You definitely got done before us. My brother and I joked around saying “wonder if @Jpaydirt will ever see our videos”. Guess this answers that question. We had to use the C frame to lift the front of the cat because we don’t have a crane or a loader big enough to do it. Thanks for checking out the channel!!
@@JB-D8Ktv I knew there was a reason, better buy a Galion LOL
@@Jpaydirt LOL! It would sure come in handy sometimes alright. We do already have a Galion grader that hasn’t ran in 15 years. Haha. More projects to fix than there is time to do it.
DREIHELL😂
Undercarriage looks not too bad ,engine was cracking a bit but no excessive white or black smoke, in all I think she is a good worker and keeper, those outfits could put in a ton of work and big hours if properly maintained, nice crawler for sure.
Thanks for watching! Undercarriage is all new. Rails, pads, segments, upper and lower rollers, front idlers and wear strips all replaced. Should last us a long time. It’s used on a farm now so won’t see too much usage each year. The new undercarriage was the main reason we bought it. It’s working well so far. Thanks for watching and commenting.

That’s a proper dozer. 👍
