How to use Layout Editor on your LX9000 to add or edit screens items
This video demonstrates how to edit or add items to a page on your LX80/90XX using the layout editor available on the device. These edits affect only the one page, so using LX Styler is preferred if you want to make a lot of changes.

    Hello Dave, I have an LX9000 without wifi, with a FlarmCore connected via cable as described in this video. What is the best way to update the flarmcore? I've tried inserting USB stick to the USB flarm port and powering up the 9000 but that does not seem to update the flarm. The only way I found was to power the flarm independently with the USB stick inserted and the update occurs automatically. Problem is, I don't have the independent Flarm power cable anymore so that option is no longer available... Thanks for any help.

    • @foxonecorp
      @foxonecorp 8 місяців тому

      What you have described is the correct procedure. With power off to the 9000, insert the USB stick into the Flarm's USB port, then power on the 9000 which will relay power to the Core. The Core will boot up and find the USB stick with the new file. Wait about 5 minutes and it should be finished. I find it helpful to use a USB stick that has an LED so you can see the USB flashing while it is in use. You are using this fw file? www.flarm.com/wp-content/uploads/man/pf_7_22_6076cde9d_exp_1_3_2025.fw

    Dave, Are the Safety Mc and Safety Mc Offset mutually exclusive? In other words, if you use one, should the other be set to zero? Lets say that you use the Safety Mc Offset and you've set it for "2 kts". At the end of day the lift gets weak, making you adjust your Speed To Fly Mc to "1.0" or "0", does that mean that the 9000's final glide is only going to use a Safety Mc of "2", which might not be safe enough. What do you think?

    • @foxonecorp
      @foxonecorp 8 місяців тому

      As I understand it, you should use only one at a time, not both offset and safety. If you use safety MC then final glide will always be calculated at the exact value to which safety MC is set, regardless of where you have MC set. So if your STF MC is set to 1 or 0 and Safety MC is set to 2, then your required final glide height will be based on 2. This is safer as it will require you to climb higher, but it is also slower if you are not climbing at 2 or better. I believe if you have Safety MC set to other than 0, then it takes precedence on all glide calculations. I don't think you can add an offset to the safety MC.

    Thanks, nice overview. I have always been puzzled by the overlapping (?) functions of the hardware "Speed command switch" and the "Vario Priority switch", one of the digital inputs. I am guessing "SC" is the primary one I'd use to force the vario into "vario mode" or "speed command ie McCready mode". So what does "vario priority" do? Is it something you'd use if you want to normally use automatic switching (no SC wired) but sometimes override it with a switch?

    • @foxonecorp
      @foxonecorp 9 місяців тому

      You have the right idea about the vario priority function. I've typically seen it used in flapped gliders where the SC is connected to the flap drive and changes to thermal mode when you select climb flap. In this scenario, having the VP switch allows you to toggle into climb mode with flaps in neural, for example wen running under a cloud street you might want vario sounds and indication, but be flying too fast for your climb flap setting. It could also be helpful in the same scenario with automatic switching, so you can force climb mode while flying straight.

    Thank you for all these videos, I have a Borgelt B50 which I'm thinking of replacing with the S80 or a xcvario. I notice you have a Borgelt in your panel and just wondered how they compare?

    • @foxonecorp
      @foxonecorp 11 місяців тому

      This video was made with a customer's panel and I have not flown with a B50 so I can't compare, but I'm told they are very good varios. The difference with the S80 is that you get multiple screens such as task, turnpoint, airspace navigation as well as flarm targets on the screen and flarm collision warnings (when connected). In the S80, you also get a very good vario with netto and thermal assistant too. It will also act as a bridge to pass flarm info to another nav display such as Oudie or XC Soar via a wired or bluetooth connection.

    Thanks for this video - very helpful. I am a little confused about when you pause your turn before reintroducing it though. If you have, say, increasing height over half the turn with the white dot in the centre of this semi-circle, do you straighten up when the glider symbol is just entering the red dots and start to turn again when you reach the white dot?

    • @foxonecorp
      @foxonecorp Рік тому

      The white dot shows the strongest part of the thermal, so when it gets to the top (or 12 o'clock position) then the strongest part is in front of you. You need to move towards this strongest part, so as the white dot is moving to the 12 position, then you should reduce your bank/ level your wings to move in that direction. This means the glider symbol would be at the 3 or 9 o'clock position when you start to change your circle.

    • @foxonecorp

      The Flarm hub has a traffic monitor that can be displayed in a browser via the wifi. See timestamp 10:51 in this video: ua-cam.com/video/be47IjDV740/v-deo.html The problem is if you read the disclaimer at the top of that page that it gives no collision warnings and is not suggested for in flight use. If you use Naviter Navigator on your iphone, it is capable of displaying (or soon will be) of displaying flarm targets. Unfortunately, Apple products are not good for soaring but if you use and Android and install XC Soar that will give you flarm over the moving map and warnings.

    "TIS license may be required on some devices" Is required for connecting Fusion to Garmin GPS MAP 695 ?

    • @foxonecorp

    How to setup the protocol to TIS for Garmin GPS MAP ? D-sub

    • @foxonecorp
      @foxonecorp Рік тому

      The D-sub port is the #2 port on the Fusion and the RJ is the #1 port. In the configuration you want to set the NMEAOUT2 parameter to a value of 4. Flarm Config specification documents says: "Garmin TIS (binary data; no other sentences). TIS license may be required on some devices. Note: When selecting Garmin TIS, the baud rate must be set to 9600. " You set the Baud rate using the BAUD2 parameter and set it to a value of 1 (for 9600 rate). All of this should be accessible via the FlarmHub app.

In other words if I have an airport “direct to” that is different from my task finish, is the calculated arrival altitude at the airport adjusted for my safety MC or safety MC offset setting?

    • @foxonecorp

      Unfortunately, the S series varios do not have the option to move the point within a turn area zone, so it will always navigate to the center of each zone. For profiles there are two things to try. 1. The default profile can be modified, but none of the changes are saved after powering off. You need to make your own profile and then changes will be saved. 2. Profiles can be "locked". If the profile is locked then you can make changes and they will stay as long as the vario is powered, but again as soon as it is powered off any change to a locked profile is lost.

    • @foxonecorp

      I think I mention something about that in the video. The sector is always 2 x the angle. The angle entered in the dialogue is between the leg bisector and one side of the zone, thus the 2x factor. This is the same as SeeYou, not sure why it was developed this way, but that's what we have!

      That depends upon which continent you fly! For North America most people use John Leibacher's Worldwide turnpoint exchange" soaringweb.org/TP/ For other continents, Naviter's Soaring Spot where the files are associated with a specific competition: www.soaringspot.com/en_gb/ Otherwise, the local guru at your club can direct you to files for your site.
