Water filters, storage and hot water system flushing
Just a quick video to help you plan out how to store large amounts of water when your free camping.
Water is not always fresh like your town water, it can be untreated and bore water leaving you with high mineral build ups in your tanks and hot water systems which can make them rust from this inside.
Remember to filter water, and use a bladder to go back into towns to stock up.

Did we get bogged at Smithy’s adventure camp beach???
Переглядів 108Рік тому
So many people have even getting bogged on Smithy’s adventure camp beach by simply not letting down their tyres. Full air pressure means you will sink in the sand very quickly. Lower your tyres to 18 psi and enjoy an easy drive. Then make sure you reinflate your tyres back up to 50psi for the tar road otherwise you will destroy your tires. #vanlifeadventures #campinglife #vanlife #offroad #arti...

They're stabilising legs not levelling legs so ratchet should not be used.
Thanks! I had this exact problem with this exact Manutec leg. I got a 5x30mm roll pin from Adelaide trailer supplies and a pin punch set from Supercheap. There's a little nut and bolt that removes the cover. It was a 5 minute job.
Great info! 👍
Are the rest of your videos and info like this? Was going to check out the channel but nothing to convince me now. Wasted opportunity to attract subscribers.
That’s just a reel, if you want to know how to make it it’s in the full instrumental video
Do the batteries last longer in the chainsaw than it takes to recharge them?
Yes, the charging time is fast, unless you have a blunt chain and you use lots of battery
😂😅lol
All back in the road again! Going like a beast!
Sorry if I am posting again, I thought I had posted a comment, but can't find it, so having another go. As I said in first comment, what a well structured video, you put all the info and steps in a logical order answering questions as one would naturally think of them. Only thing is I can't find the "hook" strip you refer to, only the sail track at Bunnings, at least online as I don't want to drive there to find only the one. Any ideas of what it may be called, so I can try elsewhere, but searched all the aluminium strips online, unless it is listed as something else. Thanks again for taking time in your day to make this info available, because I am going to do my best to fit one to our van
Hi, thanks for the comment, sorry not sure what it’s called, it was in the alloy section in Bunnings
Thanks mate good idea! Was hoping to find a way to permanently mount it tho any ideas?
Just screw it staring into the van wall for a long term fix, find the wall frame 👌
Great video, thanks very much. I am about to do, exactly what you have done.
Glad it could help you
Great idea / set up - thanks!. Suggest applying silicone behind the sail track, before fixing pot rivets - to stop water getting in holes drilled in side of caravan
Great tip!
Try going back 2p kilometres a hour, each 10 ks represents 10% for fuel consumption
👍
interesting to know this was out the back of coffs
Yep lots of good in the hills, small but it’s there in the quartz
18v you mean 36v in your title 😊
the secret on dirt roads is slower speeds, that will reduce most stones, as 700 bucks for 20 bucks worth of shade cloth is a giggle, all you need is the screen on the van and slower speeds and longer mudflaps on vehicle
Yes longer mud flaps is the key, and some half way down the van as well as they just bounce back up under the van again
I have both but with the Tyre deflator for the red one is too slow and you can you use it for fast checking the black one for the first time if felt confused but after your explanation it's too easy the trick is to open the inside valve which makes the difference.. you think it's open but it's not make sure that you open it full not little
Yes 100% out or it’s not going to work very well
Link to the hardware used?
Bunnings hardware
@hitchupadventures4302 seriously? Weird
How did you go fitting the Trailer plugs, looked pretty tight
My vans lead was tight, not from the stone stomper, just the auto electrician made it a bit short. 🤪 it was fine all athe way around OZ 50k of travel. The tight van sites made it loose sometimes
Thanks Luke. Great video very well explained. I’m thinking of using the Dune in my tunnel boot. If you don’t mind me asking, Your nearing on 1 year since you installed it, how has it held up. Thanks Tony
We just got back from around oz forn7 months. It copped a full dust and sand storm, all the rails got gritty. But a quick clean up and all good. It did on the gibb river road have 1 rails bolts come loose, but a quick tighten and good a new. We still use it and love it. We bbq on it for 200 days in a row. Over a few bumps the legs can down when packed away, but we used a bbq scraper to lift them and then it slid out as normal
@@hitchupadventures4302 thanks Luke

See other response 🤙🏻
Replace those rubbish mud flaps with actually truck ones. Those cheap thin branded ones with wind at speed just fold like a politician given 100k
😂 yep, I wanted to get fiberglass ones, but no stock at the time and needed a quick solution
Claims is off road van then has a ball hitch 😂
At that time yes, running a do35 now 🤙🏻
Hey mate, we are currently looking at one of these vans and watched your video which was a great walk through. Thank you. Just wondering when you said they aren’t making these vans or configuration anymore because of the vents, what you meant? Could you explain a little more for me please. That would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful! So the laws changed and the gas vents can not vent into the side you have the annex anymore. So I and been told this was the reason. They were made from approx 2010 to 2015 I think. 😂
Looks heavy, what does it weigh
29.6 kg here is the link www.bcf.com.au/p/xtm-4x4-camp-kitchen/593603.html?cgid=BCF1503#prefn1=adArticleType&prefv1=Camp%20Kitchens&sz=60&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiArLyuBhA7EiwA-qo80ATWsf1978FyY1LnQuIGaOcGnEqlp2gE3p3EduLYmNoM5WJH4r5tNRoC3nQQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&start=1
Job well done that 👍
Thank you 🙏🏻
Did you have to keep tightening the chain they recon new chains keep stretching when hot then you have slacken off whe finished so it can shrink
Yes they will slip off if not tight. 🤙🏻
You show me where, ill show you how!
Haha, I need to find the right spot . 👊🏻
@@hitchupadventures4302 I'm out at Bello if you are keen to do something. Got my own gear and fourby, just no local knowledge.
Oh man I have definitely done this! Where do you get the spare pins from?
Any caravan spares shop or trailer parts shop will have them 🤙🏻
NSW govt mines department website DIGS will have great historical stuff on the mines, put CoffsHarbour gold into the search box.. Did you pan any of the creeks for fine gold? Gunpowder was available and Henry Lawton’s story on ‘the loaded dog “ gives us an idea. Dynamite may have made it to Australia by 1890. Cyanide is only dangerous if you drink it, it is very volatile and rapidly evaporates into the atmosphere. It is the mercury that will kill you. Rock is normally broken down and goes in the stamper battery, the crushed rock goes across copper plates coated with mercury that sticks to the gold. This amalgam is scraped off regularly and placed in a retort where it is heated and the mercury is evaporated off leaving the gold. Small miners used to hollow out a potato and cook it and the mercury would evaporate into the potato leaving the gold. Hanging around the mercury retort was a short death sentence, cyanide is much safer and is still used today.
Nice upload I travelled through in 1990 I loved it so much we Left Tasmania. There was a property for sale we grabbed it. Great seeing the kids having a ball
Still our favourite place to camp after travelling Australia, peaceful, and plenty of space
Kick Ass dude. I was going to fix mine permanently but you've convinced me otherwise. I bought a different brand shower tent though and only came with 4 bolts, hopefully Bunnings has them (probably not). Cheers mate
It should work with all the tents, they mount the same. Happy champing 🤛🏻
We fished Cahiĺls in July 2023, plenty of Crocs on both sides of the crossing .lucky enough to catch a 650 mm barra in much the same location you were fishing. Then, we travelled on to Kimberlies, where fishing is really amazing. Safe travels.
Awesome to hear you beat the crocs 🤙🏻
looks great how good are they for not rattling loose on corrugations Im about to do the same on mine when I get it
Good question. We did 20k diving and half along the gibb river road and 4 nuts came loose. Easy to fix, best to do them up tight when you install it. It was a slide rail.
Yes I just wondered if I need to put some lock tight or add some wire spring washers Thanks for your insight on the product Happy travels be safe out there
Hi Luke. I like to know if the sections lock as I had a look at the xtm and it won’t really lock properly a little pressure or bump and it sends these tío s back in without using the levers Thanks Gabriel
The sections lock out fully and won’t go in unless you use the locks, the middle tray will lock at a half way point.
Hi Luke, i have a tunnel booth opening of 680mm wide x 430mm high, would i fit both the slide out and the nomad in there without having to find a seperate storage area for the nomad. Cheers ?
It would be close, I measure it at 43cm to fit, so if you have a lip inside the tunnel boot that sinks the slide out down it may just make it. This is if you have the bbq in the top tray. You can remove the top slide tray and it would fit easily.
Hi Luke, thanks for posting the video I found it really informative. If you did remove the top slide and sat the Ziggy Nomad on the second slide as you mention above, would you be able to tell me what would the total height of the assembly come down to? The tunnel boot height I have is 385mm, and I have struggled to find the height between the top and second shelf online.
What is the stuff u use to attach to the sail track
It’s in the same place at Bunnings, it has a curve in one end. It’s like a hook shape
Great video
Thanks!
Well done Luke. Were you able to store the Ziggy on the Dune?
Unfortunately not. It missed by 5cm, if you have a bigger hatch it would have worked or if you have a single draw pull out. But I found a single draw pull out still kept the bbq to close to the caravan than I liked
Just bought one of these chainsaws to keep in the van. Thanks for the video.
Have fun! It’s been awesome for bush trips and the back yard 🤙🏻
All good but you could put two slides up and down what you reckon
Not sure what you mean by 2 sides up?
Thanks for the video. How are you finding it now you’ve had it for a year?
It has really protected the drawbar and the front of the van. If I had extra low flaps on the van in the middle of the van it would be the 💯 perfect combo
Did you put some silicone around the bracket on the van?
I did not do it on my van, but it would be good on a van that has a external panel and frame on it. My van is a solid panel van so no water can get inside
Awesome great work. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
What's the weight of the poptop? That makes a difference.
The jayco states 1947kg the titan 2820kg
🤣😂🤣👍
Mine are still working great even after a they have been dunked in salt water 😂
"PromoSM" ✌️
🤛🏻
Very informative! Thank you 😊
Glad it was helpful! We are 3 months into our oz trip and it’s been fantastic. We had a sand storm on a beach and the pull out channels filled with sand, but after a clean it’s great again. 🤙🏻
its a great video and idea. the use of bunnings parts was great as everyone is near a bunnings. was a hard watch though if you have decent speakers as your audio is very tinny ( heaps of treble) and no bass and the echo was rough
Sorry about that, after shooting i realised the GoPro mic addition was failing. They replaced it for me and now I have rode go 2. 👍🏻
@@hitchupadventures4302 bummer, i hate it when i make a video and realise after that one thing is off. glad you have it sorted the rode will be waaay better
Thanks for the heads up🙏🏻
Any time!
Safe travels guys! 🤛🏻
Thank you 🙏🏻
Your shadow is blocking the panels!! 🤣😂
Haha yep!! 🤙🏻
