In this episode of Feeding Curiosity, we start the year by exploring Robert Eggers' rendition of Nosferatu. We delve into the film's alchemical symbolism and how it reinvigorates old-school horror storytelling for a metamodern audience. We also break down the film's rich narrative layers, from the intricate character dynamics to the underlying mythological themes. Join us as we discuss the influence of historical sources, the renegotiation of vampire tropes, and the deeper psychological and symbolic elements that make this film a modern classic.

    First guy is right, it’s a massive flaw in Across the Spiderverse that just doesn’t feel organic for anyone but Miles and Miguel. We’re supposed to believe spectacular spiderman, or insomniac spiderman (who just lost May as well) wouldn’t understand why Miles can’t just let his dad die? The animation is beautiful and the characters are still strong, but Across the Spiderverse was a huge step down in terms of the story compared to the first movie.

      It's kind of a big problem when you have multiverse interactions writers paint themselves into a corner because they have to make the story move forward in some way that could weaken the core of the OGs by adding too many splinters. Thanks for checking out the clip!

    60% the population in U.S. has insecure Attatchments, this stat has gotten worse over time. Plus the way the economy and globalization and market fundamentalism and financilization of our lives functions across time is likley to pit us against each other more and cause more threat detection levels from others. The problem with thinking markets are freedom is they don’t give you free choice, they give you individual choice and only individual choice and incentivized multi-polar traps which are the core of a lot of the trauma warfare and conflict in our history and lives.

    What is happening is people are realizing that caring about your neighbors and your community is important. The country is becoming more conservative by the day. Parents are standing their ground when it comes to their children and what they are exposed to. Lots of pattern breaks going on for sure. The glitch in the system is going to be worked out. We need smaller government, more liberty and personal accountability is an absolute imperative.

    my brother in Christ: do the Gnostics privilege mind over embodiment, or do they preach freedom of the mind over submission to the body? In other words, is Gnosticism not a purified expression of the transcendental drive to overcome the base materiality of our condition? Is that not a lesson directly from the Lord Jesus, who cowered not from His Cross but who strode upon it, in the manner of his Pagan avatar in the Dream of the Rood?

      The fact you feel that you have to sign a contract proves you shouldn’t be signing any form of documents. @@feedingcuriosity Some feedback for you. I was enjoying your commentary on the movie until you veered off talking about nostalgia and the 90’s. The discussion, for me took such a negative turn, that I opted out on listening to the rest of your commentary of such a brilliant, positive movie. By saying, it is “ clearly better now” ignores the fact that economics have taken such a downturn that your generation cannot afford to buy a home. The internet has created a cesspool for conspiracy theories. The division in Politics is at an all time high, including separating families. The idiocy of religion invading politics. Crime, climate change, etc etc. I’m not sure of the purpose of going on so long had to do with anything, as you didn’t tie it in to the movie.

    • @feedingcuriosity
      @feedingcuriosity 2 роки тому

      @@Veritas111 appreciate the feedback! I know we veered hard into other topics and brought it back to the film after you stopped listening. But also, in the moment, I was not going to start a broader debate on nostalgia and 90s vs. present as it was beyond the scope of what I had aimed to talk about. The current state of the world has many nuances and issues that I plan to explore in future podcasts. Overall, my style is free-flowing, and I know it may be jarring for listeners, but I try my best to get back on topic. Clearly, I fell short this time but always room to improve! Either way, thank you for listening as much as you did; I greatly appreciate it!

      In a deeper dive the Alpha Verse was the one killing thousands of Evelyn's when she was trying to save Joy. And the inclusion of the dildo and butt plug scenes were showing how Joy's sexuality was a mortal threat to the Alpha Verse/society at larger. Jobu killed the security guard with dildos/sexuality and the Alpha dude had to put a stick up his ass to fight Evelyn once she opened her mind to be like Joy. You can even wrap in the hotdog finger universe. There are so many levels that I see something new every time I have seen it which is 22+ times. The cookie is kung fu. Waymond gives Dierdre cookies out of kindness. This movie will have classes taught about it soon. Even the absurdist elements are deeply profound. It is amazing.

    You say it's fascinating that this symbiotic relationship between mitochondria and a procaryote happened only once in evolutionary history, but no - we think it happened twice, because the photosynthetic organelle in plants - the chloroplast - seems to have originated in exactly the same way, having it's own genetic material and it's own ribosomes or whatever - you'd have to look it up if you wanted to know more but it seems that a procaryote again engulfed a single cell organism, this time a photosynthetic organism making multicellular plant life possible. So what is this? Are the plant and animal kingdom like the yin and yang, the male and female aspect of the nature-machine?

    This is going to lead to insanely dark and evil things. Genetic modification and cellular engineering. It's going to bring about some astounding miracles. But miracles in the hands of man turn to damnation just as easily. Nothing is off limits in war. How do you feel knowing that someone could invent a gene bomb capable of targeted killings of certain people based on genetic markers. You could literally wipe a species out of the history books with this technology.

    • @feedingcuriosity
      @feedingcuriosity 2 роки тому

      Unfortunately technology is never only good or bad. But what’s important is ensuring we give people an excellent framework to understand these emerging technologies. To use a spiderman quote, “with great power comes great responsibility.” If we have these tools at our disposal, we must also ensure we can handle them responsibly. The good news is the scientific genetics community is taking the ethical issues surrounding CRISPR very seriously and not making rash decisions.

    That's cool that you are planning events, but part of the appeal of hostels is the affordability. Hostels hiring staff to plan events and the costs that go with putting on the event probably means they need to make the price of renting a room higher than if they didn't do those events. From my hostel experience, having a common kitchen and dining area does a lot to bring people together. It's easy to meet people who are cooking and eating alongside you.
