Would you consider just starting on the curve H if you already could ride a bit behind a boat and gently efoil? Or would you still suggest starting with a more beginner foil?
@@mubute I think it depends on how easy you would prefer the first 10 sessions to be. No doubt that a super easy, low aspect, beginner targeted foil would make the very first sessions easier. From there, I would definitely just want to get to something like Curve H. Starting on something like Curve H, definitely possible, ideally in one of the large sizes. Do keep in mind that given the nature of high aspect the larger sizes will have a pretty wide wingspan, making turning a bit more tricky. Also, another thing to consider is that Curve H and the associated stabs are much more sharp than the purely beginner ones. Therefore, it will make a worse cut if you fall onto the stab or the backside of the front wing.
Great job! Which stab is?
@@remisalome2885 i used Fluid H L here, also tested Veloce H XL, but prefer Fluid V3s for mere lift/pop 😀
@simon-surf big thanks! 🙏 I would like to buy a V3 set UP in aim to combine wing et dockstart. So i think i will buy a 85hm/16mm last with a V3 sirus XL, titanium fuse and kluber 80. But for the Stab we don't have many return from ambassadors.. So do you think fluid H XL v3 is good?
@@remisalome2885 yeah, I think the XL version of the stab would be fine. Maybe even more easy because of the additional lift. I have also tried Veloce H XL and now Fluid H M, which are both a bit harder for me at least, compared to the Fluid H L, because they both have less lift.
@@simon-surf thanks for all! 🙏 I had big hesitation because the size of the new XL is quasi similar to a M. But i think the gain in lift and performance change the dimension
@@simon-surf i will begin the dockstart with this foil, i hope i could be strong as you in the future 🤞🏼
which mast do you use? I hope that my decision to go for the 19 mm hm (for Pumping with the sirus xxl at 90 kg) was good 😁
i went for the v3 sirus 3xl, also 90 kg
mast 70 hm 19 mm
i did not test it yet
@@lateralthinker i use both the 15mm V3 and the 72cm 20mm V2 mast. I prefer the 15mm, but it demands a lot of precision with 2XL and 3XL. The Xl on the other hand combined with the 15mm is perfect 👌🏻the new 19mm has an updated shape and from what I head less drag than the old V2 version. Think the 19 mm is a “can do it all” mast. I am 82 kg btw.
@@LachsEntlein500 feel free to tell me. when you did! my test ride will be on saturday 😊

Awesome, how to create a map like this? Greetings from Austria
@@Herbstl I am just using “Google My Maps” 🤙🏻😀
Hej Simon.
awesome, how does V3 compare to version 2, is it actually "20% faster" as they claim?
@@WaterHopKris it is significantly lighter than the V2, which is quite nice. The new masts are thinner, and the reduced drag from the thinner masts is noticeable. The front wing it self is not faster I would say. The 12% (or something like that) increased glide from the round fuse - I don’t know. I guess it is only a 12% increase in glide measured on the fuse alone, which is probably only responsible for a very small fraction on the combined total resistance of all foil parts. Still think it is a very nice foil, with main difference being a lighter construction.

hi ive probably been out for 7 1hr sessions. im still not riding on foil. ive had it break water but as soon as it does i fall in. i find it really exhausting and frustrating. when u say this was your 5th session how many hrs do u think u had on the water to this point
What board are u using?
its in the discribtion
Hellooo!! Could you have learnt over the pro directly instead of hipe first?? Obiously, having the same size at the beginning 5.11 or so.
Can you say how do your boards compare to this and would you buy an inflatable if you were starting all over?
40 kmh - impressive!!
Great and inspiring video Simon! I'm just looking to buy the Gong HIPE First kit. One question left in my mind - would you say it's harder with an inflatable board than with a hard board? Thanks again.
After around 40 sessions, I tried a rigid board for the first time. Definitely pros and cons of each technology. I found the rigid board a bit easier to pump out of the water also, when in full speed, I find the rigid board a bit more stable, on the other hand when you start learning, you fall a lot. The inflatable ones don’t hurt so much when you fall onto them. I don’t think I would start with a rigid board if I had the chance to do it all over again. Inflatable technology these days are pretty solid.
@@simon-surf Thanks Simon for your insight. I'm shopping for the Gong noob kit now!
Great video Simon... I have just received my Gong Hipe First and looking forward to session one!!
Really enjoying this series as a beginner wingfoiler!
God video!!
Give yourself credit. It's gotta be hard to learn in 8-10 knots.
What foil do you have? I see the board is 5'11 what is your weight?
Hi Simon What do you think of the Hipe pro ?
Which size foil did you use?
Appreciated your summary story, friend! I am just getting my starter kit now!!!
Hey Simon, that looks good after 3 sessions, what kind of foil and board are you using?
Thanks, I unlocked 60 seconds after 30 days, but also had 12 sessions within these days. I use a Gong setup, Kluber 95 board, with Sirus XXL (156 cm) wing span), 72 cm high modulus carbon mast.
Do you think windfoil experience would reduce the time to get to going one way or the other consistently like that? I'm not too bothered about the time, as I'll want to try wingfoiling eventually, but it would be a push to get me to do it earlier if I know it'll be a fast transition. Interesting about the heart rate. I sit at around 100 bpm for windfoiling average (I'm 32, 64 kg), and windsurfing 160, so sounds like wingfoiling would be kind of an in-between thing and a bit harder than I expected. I really thought wingfoiling was supposed to be more chill than windfoiling.
Dang did my second session and only got up twice for 5 seconds. Youre almost an expert
Nice and well done, but too much plastic involved. All fossil and all will end up as CO2.
Beautiful! and the only way a human should move in that area.
Tak for deling 😊👍💪🤙
Fed video. Tak for du deler.
I have no idea why to do such things seeing this in theory or on the paper. But: visualising this blows my mind. Wow and, let me say this, double Wow!
I had my third session last week, it amazing how the first fly make you forget all the previous frustration.
Hi Simon, very nice video. What cam / cam-mount did you use here ?
Thanks 🙏🏻 I used Flymount Aero-130
And Insta360 One X3
👍 nice combo - great footage
Hi Simon, how much is your weight? Many thx
84 kg 😀
keep more speed through the jibe and just keep roding toeside then do another jibe which is then easier because you end up in your good side
Thanks for the tip 🤙🏻😄
i have the fluid h L as well and its around 1250 sqcm
Yeaa typo - Fluid H M = 1000 cm2 🤙🏻 thanks
I am considering dropping foil size to a more intermediate kit, will this slow my progression or help it? I also SUP foil and struggle to keep the foil under water! I can't 0:02 yet jibe either when winging thanks
Hey nice vid! I just baught a curve h xlh... just forninformation, what is your weight? Thanks 🤙
Hi Oliver. My weight is 84 kg, but after using this front wing, along with Curve XL, Curve H L and Fluid H M, I must say it is quite big for me. I can takeoff in almost no wind, but would probably have preferred a XL version for my sailing preferences.
Thanks for this incredible analysis. I started on a Lance 5.8 and currently on X-Over XL, looking to upgrade at least the foil as I feel it's stopping my progresses with the jibe (too slow when turnin). For the board have you seen the new mint? Or are you considering only inflatables?
I was actually thinking about buying the new Mint board. But then a good offer came in on a used Fanatic Sky Wing Team ed. 85 L for sale (less than half the price of a new Mint). So I jumped at it. Now I've had three sessions on a hard board, and I have to say that I think everything is easier on every aspect compared to the inflatable boards. It feels calmer and more stable in flight, touchdown is not a problem unlike the inflatables, and I can take off in less wind because it's easier to gradually push out of the water. I still think the inflatables have their place, and for me, it's a big advantage to be able to have it all in the boot of the car (and kids in the back seat).
@@simon-surf If I'm going to get inflatables it's going to be for a specific low wind board. The new Hipe diamond looks interesting
Agree looks very nice 👏🏻🤩🤙🏻
great, at least you are practising foot switch from the beginning on 😊
Excellent choice!
Nice
