Cassava bread making
Peace Corps Volunteer Ileana shares with us the process of cassava bread making as demonstrated by an indigenous family in her community.
"Last year, my husband Michael and I were invited by an Amerindian family in our community to observe the week-long process of making cassava bread for Heritage Day. To make the bread, the family, used traditional tools like a matapee (a woven sieve) to squeeze the juice out of the bitter cassava to make cassareep (the main ingredient for pepperpot) and, if fermented, the juice can also become, piwari, a traditional drink made of scraps (alcoholic based on time of fermentation)." #PeaceCorps #Guyana #Service #Indigenous #CulturalExchange #Community #AmerindianHeritage

See this is the real struggle the guyanese people face from day to day . Corruption by greedy politicians is responsible for most of the hardship these folks face..well done to all who contributed to this project...

on other Peace Corps Guyana Covid 19 vaccine Vids, i notice the comments are not allowed. this obviously does not allow others to express the fallacies of covid vaccinations effectiveness. sadly, this is not good for Guyana and Guyanese.

Seeing this makes me happy for the people of that area but completely ashamed of being Guyanese. Ashamed that neither the government of Guyana nor any other group in Guyana could have gotten this done. For 65 years these people have been asking for a bridge and could only get it because 36 white Americans, mostly high school students flew down to Guyana with their own money to build this bridge? and using their bare hands with minimal tools? What are our own high school children doing? Why couldn't the govt get prisoners to do this? After 50 years of independence we still need white kids to build a bridge for us, whew!!! pathetic!!!

I hope that the leaders of the Amerindian community, together with the regional council and the Guyanese government, will create road and bridge projects that connect the different Amerindian communities with the rest of the country for their socio-economic development.

It's really more than 65 years - this also shows the lost of cultural heritage of so call working people - mashramani- What this also shows is the fact that the people are made to become dependent- Hope they are awakened from this project and work on similar projects together
