im lucky i was able to get my school records, i had dtd when i was a kid and it morphed into cptsd when i hit adulthood
this was very enlightening, thank you :)
What if I don't remember a time when I did not live in fear?
You always provide a lot of insight and new strategies I can use now that I have been working as a Behavioral Health Clinician serving women who have been trafficked, encoutntered other sexual exploitation experiences including DV, homelessness, SRA, DID, Depression and other co-occuring diagnosis and symptoms. You were one of my favorite informative supervisors and I a forever grateful for you Nina. Thank you for everything.
Incredible 👏🏻
Very well explained, thanks a lot.
Thank you for this yessss!🦋✨
This information is hard to find!!! I am surprised how many people, therapists, and clients missing this crucial piece! Thanks so much for such a clear and informative explanation! ❤
Thank you for this video, and for sharing your story. I have learnt a lot, Thankyou
I like this. It feels like it’s desensitizing the event while leading up to the event if that makes sense. Glad I found this and I will be following this. Thank you 😊
Yes, very much like steps in EMDR.
Thank you for this. I’m an ACMHC and have no trauma training yet. I will use this to help me with direction in my practice. ♥️
Amazing introduction
Society doesnt even know how to deal with grief very good observation. 😊
Thank you, this was helpful!
Very informative, Thank You.
Thank you.. Do you have a book? This was so accessible.x
I'm a little late but just wanted to say excellent job! This was very helpful!
This is the only time I've heard anyone explain eating disorders in a way I relate to. The less I exist, the less I feel, the safer I am and the less dusruptive and burdensome I am.
I'm a therapist and this helps me find a new approach! Thank you thank you
Thank you so much for this informative video. Extremely helpful information. I have to watch it again and again just to soak up all the information. Love that you had a cat by the way. I'm an MSW student and I'm a huge animal lover that has done rescue for decades. Sorry to hear about the passing of your cat and hopefully you will rescue another. ❤❤
This is so helpful to me, as I'm pursuing my Master degree in Social Work!! Working from the inside out!
Outside Inwards😅
Am so curious about somatic work asi have friends who find it powerful 🙏
I can't like this enough! I'm a masters-level intern in the final semester of my mental health counseling program, and this is what I've been needing for MONTHS. I've learned how to identify PTSD but not at all how to treat it, save for being told "CBT is an evidence based treatment". Like, my client can't sit straight in a chair! How am I supposed to discuss their thoughts and behaviors and expect that to just *magically work*?! THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. This has set me on the right course!
I am in the same boat just got my llpc and there's not a whole lot of classes that cover how to properly address trauma
First time viewer. :) Thank you for the great tips!
❤ thankyou ❤
Thank you ❤
Working from the outside in is super helpful, thank you!
I'm a patient in somatic therapy since about August, I'm not opening up easily as much as I'd like to even though I feel like my therapist is basically me but with a counselor degree instead of community health degree
This would be so amazing integrated into trauma informed health care in pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Seems like it bridges the gaps between the mental, emotional and physical experiences
Thanks Nina for your channel! I’m in Grad school right now and your videos are very helpful!
Love your channel! Easy to understand and relatable. Thank you.
Thank you for this really supportive and helpful video. 😊
I'm here
Thank you! This is great. Very helpful
Thank you.
You're welcome!
The cat was trying to express a traumatic experience
We rescued her from a shelter 19 years ago, she is no longer alive (sadly), but I am sure you are right.
Thank you this was insightful
This was helpful...... and say hi to your cat😊
She is no longer with us! She passed from old age a year ago. I am glad you found the info helpful.
Thank you so much for making this awesome video. This just happened for me. You framing our responses as fight, flight, flee, and freeze and giving us PERMISSION to have the responses really supported me.
You are so welcome.
I am doing a counselling course, I found this video was very informative, thank you. Do you have information on visable boundaries?
Can you give me more information on what you mean when you say visible boundaries?
This was extremely helpful. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
So glad I found your channel! Thank you Nina for creating such an informative, well-organized video. I am writing a book about someone who is going through group therapy for PTSD and needed to know how this looks and what techniques the therapist uses to help the clients reach their goals.
Oh I am gald you found it helpful. I wish you well in your writing process.
I am extremely excited to have found your page, as someone wanting to be an Integrative trauma Practitioner i think i should make sure all of my trauma from my past is under control and make sure I'm mentally capable to work with clients without being triggered or knowing how to regulate that. i don't usually get triggered that much talking with people. but i have noticed it once or twice. so thank you for this video
It will be hard to make "all" your trauma is under control. It is like an union...do as much work as you can but expect to have to continue to work on things. A lot of times the gift our clients give us is awareness that a new layer of trauma needs to be healed.
@@thetraumatreatmentcollecti859thank you so so much for your responses. My fear has been that I won’t be able to help clients if they see that what they’re telling me is affecting me. I want them to feel comfortable. I know I won’t be able to control all of my triggers but it’s so good to know that it’s normal to tell human emotions while helping others regulate theirs. I’ll be watching more of your videos. When I start school for integrative trauma practitioner, I would love to come get advice from you to help me while I’m building my clients. Your page is so informative!!
Really enjoyed this channel, able to make sense of where to begin with client struggling with traumatic events
So glad it is helpful for you.
You mean there are actually therapists who, after assessing your sense of safety & stabilization and learning that you have neither, don't immediately tell you that they cannot take you on as a client because of those very reasons? As with any profession, I understand that all counsellors have their own level of expertise and yes I am being kind here - but a response like that has the potential to do irreparable damage. I am a mental health advocate & pro-counseling. I considered myself savvy about what to look for in a competent therapist. But with trauma I didn't know how to suss out one from the other. I had three councillors in a row that did this to me and it was devastating. I'm now making up for lost tim but I sincerely thank you for addressing this issue.
You are so welcome!

No clue All I wanted to do was reply with a ❤️. Weirdness often reigns.
I am in the final semester of my counseling program, and as an intern I am asked to provide counseling to a wide variety of concerns at my community-based clinic, including treating very traumatized clients. But I have zero training on PTSD treatment, which is how I landed on this page. I am so sorry for your experience, and I wish I could say it is a rare thing. Given the academic-focus of my masters program, the sudden expectation to provide real-life counseling, and no one providing oversight for my interventions, I'm sure your experience is far too common. We have not been taught how to instill a sense of safety in our clients (and I still had to go find a different video to learn that just now). I have never heard of this "outside-in" approach, but it makes perfect sense, and I will be applying these lessons with my clients right away. I hope you have found the right provider now, angelwolf. I will keep you in my thoughts.
@@clhunt15 ❤ Thankyou so much for sharing your insight about this. I’m currently training to be a therapist in Australia and the information you have provided has been validating for me and my experience with trauma and PTSD education. I would like to collab with you regarding info on these topics if you’d be interested. Thanks
This is so good i hope to be as good as you some day
Awe well thank you for that compliment. My secret is putting myself in spaces where I know the littlest and gleaning all I can from the ones ahead of me.
So helpful. Question, is merging discouraged because it feels too uncomfortable for you? Is there anytime that merging is ok ? Like ok to find yourself merging during session because u know you are able to separate and end of session?
I can't think of a time professional would need to merge with a client to be effective. I am open to thoughts...but nothing is coming to me at this time.
Wow, this video offers so much insight. And blew my mind. Is it possible for me to go through your trauma services with my own child or children? And husband? And if so, is it possible to have a certain insurance cover the cost? I only have one specific one so I’m limited a bit. Thank you in advance. God bless.
At this time I am not taking new clients. I wish you well in your healing journey.
Walking while voice to text is a brilliant suggestion!
I hope it is helpful...I have also found that standing while I do my notes to be helpful.
Thanks so much!
You are so welcome.
