Independent. Stubborn. Absolutely. Even "Shepskies" (German shep - Husky mix) doesn't reduce their urge to bolt and simply look over the back and keep running when you call their name. So much fun, beautiful and their howl is a thing of delight. If you've had field dogs, and assume obedience, trainability, staying close -- well, no. Not happening. And the wild wolf isn't that far away!

As a border collie owner, I can only tell you: there is no break, there is no rest 😄🐾🖤🤍

Is this a joke? As a longtime dachshund owner, mine never had a back problem. You had a horrible problem with potty training they never ever walk on a leash until will never matter fact the thing that nobody talks about it is the insanity of separation anxiety. Yes if they leave them and they are attached to you, they will destroy everything. They will poop everywhere and I mean everywhere go to your bed, but will still love yes😮

I've had 3 loyal shorthaired Dachshound. After our last one died, we waited a while, and now have a beautiful smooth haired chocolate Dachshound. He is now 16 months old, and he is wonderful. Loyal, funny, and I have lovely walks with him in our woods. ❤❤❤

Yes but they have spine issues. They end up paralyzed and back legs no longer work. They are susceptible to this because of the breeding that made the spine long. Very sad, but people need to know this.

They are a very sweet and loyal breed, but if you are thinking of getting one...they have a bad habit of pooping in the house. The will pee outside, but they prefer pooping in the house. It is an unfortunate trait. They will use puppy pads so it is manageable, but don't think you can train that habit out of them. It most likely won't happen. I've owned one and thought I just didn't do it right. Since then I've talked to many, many Dachshund owners and they all say the same thing. Still one of the most loving and loyal pets I've ever had the pleasue of having in my home.

My best friend was a Dachshund named Fulasch, my neighbors dog in Hungary. When I would come on the weekends, he knew the sound of my bus and would be waiting in the street, going crazy when he saw the bus, lol! Then he would stay at my house as long as I stayed, whether a day or a month, he lived with me. Even made a bed for him. Once, I heard him growling and barking, so went to see who it was, and it was his owner, he would not let his owner into the yard, lol, barking at him like he was a criminal. Sadly, I came one weekend and he was not there. Checked with the neighbor and someone had poisoned him and they found him in a field, already dead! My heart was broken. I still have a big photo of him in my house. My twelve grandkids cried too, they loved him.
