Lorre Mill Comb Room + Float Glass + Double Knots: 🎧 getting into it 🎧
Floating Comb #2: 🎧 double DKs always make my day! i went with @jdcllns idea of putting one DK through the CR and one through the FG. it felt too mono L/R, so i fed the FG output back into the CR input and it seemed to add a little to the stereo field. i have no idea what the data input is for on the FG and still figuring out what to do with the Sand and Noise. i wish there was some sort of VCA inputs on the DKs that i could get Sand or Noise into for some more percussive effects. anyone got ideas for Sand and/or Noise?

      thank you for the reminder about pairing these two. don’t know why i haven’t done more of this! precautions - SO many! i really wish i had a format jumbler with negative voltage protection. DK can’t accept negative voltages, so no browns (watch out for accidentally patching browns in that would be indirectly connected). i’ve heard oranges out of MWTRS also can go negative. if you have something to measure voltages, you may want to check before cross patching. you can search or ask questions on the lines forum for further info. yeah, i think it gets a little limited patching between them because of that, but still sounds great! 😀

      @@heliumsoundzzz i haven’t completely gone through the v3 manual yet, but v3 doesn’t have the clock dividers and XOR logic, but it does have slew and more control over the envelope from what i can see. the snappy/clicky sound of v2 which you either love or hate (i absolutely love it) isn’t present on v3. hope that helps 😀

      go to the “Mobenthey / Ciat-Lonbarde (synthmall) thread” on the lines forum and search for manual or it might be easier to find on the FB Ciat Lonbarde Cool Kids group. you can post the question there and one of us will give you a link.

    why does this sound so much better than Plumbutter?

    • @innersonicsoundsystem
      @innersonicsoundsystem 5 місяців тому

      i think what you’re getting at is the fact that the DK locks into a grid and has defined/snappy envelopes. i like them for different things. as much fun as i’m having patching the DK by itself, i’ll eventually hit a wall and run out of ideas or ways to manipulate the sound. the modulations are a bit limited. i think the DK is a blast and everyone should have one, but you’ll want more. i wish Lorre Mill had more instruments in their family like CL does. i love adding the DK to everything, but it can’t be my everything :)

      @@innersonicsoundsystem Are you implying that Plumbutter is superior in the aspect of how much deeper it is sonically?

    • @innersonicsoundsystem
      @innersonicsoundsystem 5 місяців тому

      @@NealCaen sort of… since PB is way more than 2 oscillators with shift registers, there are more colors to choose from and you can do more with them, however, the PB cannot do or sound like the DK. i think it’s really a matter of taste and budget.

      happy you liked it - thanks! i’d like to get a v3 at some point, but there are a few features of the v2 that I would miss for sure. PB2 is my favorite synth that i own, hands down. i could spend a lot of time patching the PB and never get bored. it’s a much more versatile and robust (and more expensive) machine than the DK, but neither of them can do what the other does. the DK is a blast to patch! it’s a great Buchla buddy and it can even be clocked by Eurorack modules. feel free to hit me up on IG, if you want to talk further 😀

    • @innersonicsoundsystem
      @innersonicsoundsystem 5 місяців тому

      it looks like you’ve got a lot of modular experience, so i think you’d figure them out quite quickly with a little info. one CL user has created some very detailed manuals which really lifts the veil on the mystery. hit me up on IG if you have any more questions or want to talk further about CL :)

    would you say Rolzer is a good investment long term? Does it really open new avenues within the Plumbutter?

    • @innersonicsoundsystem
      @innersonicsoundsystem 5 місяців тому

      it depends on what you’re interested in doing. i use mine as a massive modulation board and more importantly, a way to sync all of my CL instruments together. at a certain point, i felt like i was running out of rolls, especially if you’re trying to interlock them all together and get glitchy type grooves out of them. if you like the noisier/avant garde side of CL, Rolzer is invaluable. i feel like i will be even more pro-Rolzer once i work my way through the new PB + Rolzer manual, but in the past i sometimes have thought i would rather have 2 PBs since they’re not that different in price.

    i love this man, how difficult would you say learning CL gear can be? It’ll be my first venture into modular and I’m thinking of going all in and buying PB, Coco, and Peterlin all at once and just dedicate myself to learning these instruments but they’re extremely esoteric and rarely any documentation.

    • @innersonicsoundsystem
      @innersonicsoundsystem 5 місяців тому

      thank you! funny that you say that because there’s someone in the community who has been writing very thorough, easy to understand documentation. msg me on IG and we can talk further. i’d be happy to answer your questions in depth.

    • @innersonicsoundsystem
      @innersonicsoundsystem 5 місяців тому

      making music with CL gear is a bit of a conversation. there are tools you have to influence where the conversation goes, but you can’t completely control it. i don’t think it’s that hard to learn, but there’s years of discovery available to you. i’d consider PB, Coco, and Deerhorn or Sidrax or Rolzer. Peterlin isn’t really part of the family. it’s a fun tool, but it’s Peter’s take on someone else’s instrument. if you’re immersing yourself in the CL experience, i’d skip the Peterlin for now.

      i guess i should preface this - i’ve been patching for a couple of years now and my woodwind chops have been suffering. just starting to get reeds together and start shedding again. testing the waters for what instruments work in this setup and what do not. hope to have some technique together in the near future and my posts/sonic sketches won’t be so aimless :)
