The Forgotten Japanese Legend That DESTROYED Porsche - Mitsubishi Starion
In this episode of V8 Legends, we dive into the fascinating story of the Mitsubishi Starion, a car that combined Japanese precision with turbocharged power to become one of the most intriguing sports cars of the 1980s. With its bold, angular design and advanced engineering, the Starion was built to challenge rivals like the Mazda RX-7, Nissan Z, and even the Porsche 944.
Powered by turbocharged engines ranging from a 2.0L Sirius 4G63 to a 2.6L Astron G54B, the Starion delivered up to 225 horsepower, making it a force to be reckoned with on both the streets and the track. It was also a trailblazer, being one of the first Japanese cars equipped with electronic fuel injection controlled by a computer.
But the Starion’s story doesn’t end there-it’s shrouded in mystery and intrigue. Was its name really a mispronunciation of "Stallion," or is there more to this urban legend? With models like the "Flatty" and "Fatty," each offering unique performance characteristics, the Starion was a car ahead of its time.

My second car, JA 2.0 Starion. Felt like Hassellhoff in it. Mine had far sexier seats and interior than shown from memory, very space age. Talk about turbo lag. First turbo I ever blew up. I also remember the little brother FWD Cordia Turbo, never see them anymore!
The 2 most incredible things about this engineering marvel are # 1. That so many sports car "enthusiasts " doesn't know about this car and, #2 that mitsubishi hasn't even considered to bring this model back. Toyota did it with the supra, Nissan did it with the 300zx, hell even mazda said it's bringing back the rx7 in 2025. It's about time for the Starion to come back, 350whp!!!!!!
The Baldwin Motion cars were faster in the 1/4.
0:44 hello rx7!
Having owned the Chrysler version of these .. (conquest).. I find these video hilarious... those things were pigs 😂😂
This car was in Cannon Ball Run II featuring Jakie Chan
I had the 89' Chrysler Conquest TSI which was a 2.0 with the wide body option.
Its a neat car, my neighbor had one in silver. My experience is a little spoiled because she chain smoked in it and it always smelled of beer. I would love to see a clean restored one.
My ex boss had one brand new ,it was fun to drive ,I was maybe 20 at the time ,it's fast but I'm a V8 fan toque 😂
Mine got stolen 1986 triple black. In Atlanta 😢. Never found
I'll keep an eye out for it :D
I had a Plymouth Suburban 1969, 9 passenger wagon with a 440 ci engine and when loaded with my wife, 4 kids and myself it could burn rubber and pass almost anything on the road but a gas station!
🔥💪
Great video! How do i contact you.
This is a terrible video.
whoa there! That AI voice is working a little too fast in this video!
Turbo V8?
I always liked the Grand National and wanted to own one, but never managed to gather the funds necessary.
I know all about it my brother And I head Number 547 at our dealership in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania GJM
Some sensitive people in the comment section.
First Comment!!! Chevy missed the boat by not producing something to rival the GN. They should have fit some Montes with the 3.8 turbo. Then Chevy would have had a car that could outrun the Mustang. LOL.
Chevy did make a Monte with the 3.8 turbo. My friend had one. It didn't sell well because Chevy had other, more traditional, performance products to push.
The 1955 - 1957 Chevrolet Belair Nomad bodies were not made out of fiberglass, they were stamped steel just like all the rest of the Chevrolet Belairs. The 1957 and up Chevrolet 283 V8's with Fuel Injection are mechanical, not EFI. By the way, station wagons were automobiles, not vans or trucks. Maybe you should lay off the good stuff before doing these videos.
Yeah ya might have missed the 2015 GM Holden Commodore SS wagon ! 6.2 Litre LS and six speed T56 / LSD . Or the Ford Australia Falcon Wagon V8 and manual rear drive ! 1980s Chrysler Australia Wagons 265 ci Hemi Six and 4 speed manual!
Bad start. '73 was the year they cut horsepower in half. And they rusted badly. Not a good year for Chevy. SS or not.
