THE SUBTLE BEAUTY OF IMPERFECTION
Переглядів 33Рік тому
This video is based on the powerful influence the Japanese philosophy of Wabi Sabi has had on my life. Wabi-Sabi is a Japanese philosophy that emphasizes the beauty of imperfection, impermanence, and the acceptance of things as they are. It is often associated with the Japanese tea ceremony, but it can be applied to many aspects of life. "Wabi" can be translated as "simplicity, rusticity, or lo...

Back in the early 1990's we lived in Verde lakes at the confluence of Dry Beaver Creek & Clear Creek just below an exceptionally large community of cavette dwellings about 5 miles east of the town of Camp Verde. There are literally hundreds of cavette communities all over that entire area located in the same white gypsum geologic formations along Dry & Wet Beaver creeks, Clear creek, Fossil creek, Oak creek and the Verde River, Another large group is located in the mesa north above Camp Verde with a great view of Montezuma's Castle and the confluence of Wet Beaver Creek and The Verde River. Most of the ruins closer to Camp Verde,Cottonwood and Clarkdale had been thoroughly looted and then excavated long long ago, Even back in the 80's & 90's- there were site stewards that monitored and patroled the more popular places with electronic sensors planted in the ground on the access trails & in the ruins. As the looting and destruction,& the intentional or non intentional toppling of walls and structures that idiots just cannot resist climbing or sitting on, or pushing over had not stopped, even though its posted that climbing in and around the cavettes and mesa top ruins is understandably frowned upon or maybe banned & illegal by the year 2000 when we left the Valley. I first started exploring the area back in the 1960-'s & can testify to the looting ,vandalism and lack of respect i have witnessed in so many sites over the past 50 years. My wife's family are of Yavapai, Puebloan, Dineh/Apache ancestry mixed with some Spanish mining heritage as they worked in the mines of Jerome, I used to walk my dog along the mesas below the many ruins & was always finding turquoise & shell beads and bits of turquoise that had been washed down for centuries from the ruins above. Over the years I must have collected a 2 gallon can full of Turquoise which i ended up donating to the Verde Valley archeo conservatory back in the 90's .i kept a couple pieces for my 2 daughters as keepsakes, after all it was their ancestors who fashioned the turquoise and lived in those caves.

Wow! You really know the area. We would love it if you could point us to some other cavette dwellings. As I hope you are aware, we believe in "Leave No Trace" so we would be respectful of those places.

You do need a reservation. You'll need to go to the park website and reserve the spot online. I would suggest having a printout with you when you go because I've run into park rangers on the trail and they do sometimes check.
