Santa's sabbath children of the sleigh
i think this message sent below may be my best yet. True story too, just ask Bruce Loose....
I love this video SO fucking much!!! The band is.... well, um, anyway... I can't believe this is the Torrance Moose Lodge. If you were to add a bar with an indifferent balding hick of a bartender reading an auto-trader, an old white lady working as a cocktail waitress that's looking on in confusion, and about 27 drunk and meth'd up rednecks ranging in age from 39 to 78 and wearing a mix of John Deere, St. Louis Cardinals and Stetson hats, dirty Levi's blue jeans and shit-kicker boots standing in a row behind the dance floor looking on in different mixed stages of annoyance, confused anger, and spite for the unusual, and possibly homer-sexual, young people types while they watched 6 kids 1/3 their age dance in an empty pit and do their best to slam while a punk band made up of dudes in their early 50s, who look like they sold everyone the meth and used it that night and for way too long before that moment themselves, played bad punk music I could swear this was a punk show I went to in this shit bar in a nowhere fucking town called Jenkins in Barry County, Missouri way up in the Ozark Mountains. Shit is wild. That was well... A place where the men are men and the women, well, had about 17 real living teeth left amongst the 23 of em. God Blessum! Yee-Haw Motherfuckers! Who's ready to have a Bud Ice and get to boot-scootin? Have you ever wanted to go to the bible-belt and see the Ozarks? Well, DON'T!!! Go to Old Town Hemet, CA on the 2nd of the month, the day after welfare and SSI payments are disbursed. It is nicer and the travel time much shorter. Or just go on tour with Hamapple apparently, if you are not on probation or parole. Cuz I am pretty sure these guys are holding. And have priors. And a couple warrants. Just saying.
Moose lodge show this Saturday. Gunna see Hamapple agin in Pedro 2 weeks with beowulf
@@HarborAreaPunx13 I love Beowulf, and for a South Bay/Venice band that are contemporaries of Suicidal, they let any band that asks open for them. I went to weirdest show 6 or 7 years back. Beowulf and Dead Friends. So Beowulf has a legion of old hard-cores and crazy Sui fans, DF who I know from, umm, let's call it my old job, was made up of the leadership of the largest white nationalist skinhead prison gang in California PEN1 and a couple of their friends. So the show was 1/3 stabby white nazi felons, 1/3 beatup punch happy old hard-cores, and 1/3 slice your face with a box cutter suicidals. And it was at the Doll Hut, so everyone is standing fucking hip to hip. It was hilarious.
This is not remotely violent
Appreciate the post, I was there on Sunday for the show, did you get the rest of the their set, Spyder, Codefendants or get dead at all? Basically anymore of the show that wasn't Empyred? They were.... politely stated... fucking terrible. Thank you for dead fucking last though.
@@RobertDecker-o5j this was from Friday night
@@HarborAreaPunx13 Yeah noticed different backdrop after I put the comment up but was still hoping it was the same tour line up. Either way appreciate it. First saw DFL 29 years ago when it was the Beastie line up opening for Pennywise on the 1995 About Time tour. No idea who they were then. Happy accident, glad to see them going strong still.
@RobertDecker-o5j they are playing supply and demand on the 29th with grim and dr know
@HarborAreaPunx13 Fuck yeah, loving seeing bands get back on the road and the live scene come back to life. Especially the bands that never made much in record and rights deals but kill it on tours now. Like the Sunday Alex's Bar DFL show. Spyder, who I met 20 years ago and always loved, is back at it and loving it. Das Klown as well, first met AJ 32 fucking years ago. He may be a fat old man who shit himself at that Alex's show but he used to be a scary beast of a traditional skinhead in clown paint, and is a legend in Long Beach punk and AA/Recovery scenes. They both should have been pushed then, now you eat what you kill and kids like Days N Daze put out their best shit from home and kill on the road, merch, Band Camp, UA-cam and Patreon, not at all controlled by some douche wanting to milk them. Or who pressures them to focus on what sells like Capitol execs did to the Beastie Boys members who founded DFL. Crushed the momentum in a move that would not have happened if they trusted Brett Gurewitz not to hijack talent once he had a few bucks from Smash, Out Come... What could have been in rock music if DFL had gotten the full backing of Brett and Epitaph for more releases, headlining tours instead of opening shows 3rd staff to Pennywise and The Joykiller, and weren't tied to Capitol and more records with a hip-hop band that started as a goof? Well the world will never know. Capitol stole it and Brett never even used the fact that the two of four were Beasties because they asked him not to. They wanted to play shows for punk fans, not Beastie Boys fanatics and groupies. I know because I saw them 3 times and had the fucking first pressing of the Proud To Be... CD, only discovering 1.5 years after the first show that Adam and Mario were active members and Mike D was still doing studio tracks and production work for them. I don't remember that being a selling point until Punk-O-Rama two dropped and it was mentioned. Brett was not a problem, just perceived as such. Bad Religion as a band without Mr. Brett would learn the same lesson at the same time thanks to another major, thus begins the Atlantic shit show. Virtually all of the Atlantic years were a lesson in the eventual enslavement of a band that sells regardless of their fans/scene, mental health, or happiness. They did Recipe For Hate, a still okay but not their best album, with Atlantic who I believe just wanted the merchandising and imagery rights to rake in sales because of the prevalence of BR tee-shirts they saw in the early 90s. When that record charted and peaked, so did the pressure for singles, so much so that they did a fucking rerecording of a song sounding exactly the same as the first from 8 years before to create a salable single in 21st Century Digital Boy. The whole Stranger Than Fiction major label release for Atlantic bummed me out as a kid. I didn't like the cases that were lacking ferocity in graphics and print and the earnest cool design of the Epitaph years. Bad Religion instantly regretted the choice, and while they ran back to Epitaph and brought Brett back and made some okay stuff since, it was to me and my friends a journey the band in many ways never fully came back from. The old punk rock money grab days worked out well for some like Bill Stevenson and ALL when they cashed the horribly overlooked and slept on by the fans Melody-Punk masterpiece Mass Nerder in to Brett and used the money to build the Blasting Room, eventually giving fans the likes of Rise Against. We fans won both ways on that deal too. Bands could get a lucky break back then if Mr. Brett or some punk rock legend/label owner shined his favor upon them, but that is a pretty rare miracle nowadays. I am happy to see any part of punk rock succeed if it is made with true punks for true punks. Our scene is coming back to life, just hope it continues and some of the newer labels grow in exposure. Seems like it will take new avenues than the last ones traveled though, that's for sure. Mr. Brett has turned Epitaph into something different that only re-releases old copyright, (and like 4 new(ish) punk band's), records. Reissued stuff helps with keeping bands on the road, so big ups to the labels like Pirate Press, Trust, Lookout! and those to be mentioned shortly, but it is hard for a classic that is reissued to start a fire unless it goes viral or is featured in some series or movie. New Releases are vital to growth. I personally love the Fat Wreck imprint label Bottles to the Ground for doing it, just need more following and breaking sounds like Crime Wave, Folk Punk, Thrash Grass and Ska-Crust. With that, I haven't heard of the Stern brothers doing anything big with BYO in a minute unless I missed it somehow. Biafra, McKaye and Ginn aren't doing anything with Alternative Tentacles, Dischord or SST. Armstrong and Escalante are so busy they aren't doing much with Hellcat and Kung Fu, respectively. Even Dexter killed Nitro years back. There are a lot of DIY bands and small labels(especially given the access to the worlds of media and sound technology being made reasonably user friendly and easy to afford) and not to trash hard working indy label crews, as some are seeing success, but it seems to me it's hard to break out to the main stage of a festival or book bigger venue solo tours if you aren't on Fat, Bottles, Red Scare, Pure Noise, Side One or the three aforementioned labels actively releasing and supporting new music and promoting/supporting their rosters. I remember seeing Guttermouth, fucking legends, sell out the Glasshouse 20 years ago. Now they are playing small bars like Alex's or the Gaslight. Shit even TSOL, the Kings of Long Beach Vicious Circle ultra-violent punk rock won't sell out the Observatory, not on every date anyway. They deserve better. Jack, Mark and Paul (Blag Dahlia/Ralph Champagne) gave 30 years or more of blood sweat and tears for this scene. Along with many others. They should not have to worry about calling it a day when the time comes and have finances force them to tour on(like the Angry Samoans for example). Much like the Angry Samoans though, I am old as fuck. So really, what do I know?... Congratulations! You made it through reading. Don't. Think. Many. Will. 🤤BoB-O
