You know it's sad and depressing when you sit back and you look at what's happened to our country and industries that built America, it seems that we have sold out every bit of our steel industries, I kind of wonder what it does to the US whether it makes us stronger or weaker but look at all the jobs that are gone😢😭😞...
This is what I think about ever since the MAGA slogan was used by Trump his first campaign. Certainly not what modern day racists accuse the republicans of think it means. (like returning to the days of slavery ffs) Bring back heavy industry is what I think of. MAGA!
I danced in this Hungarian Grape Dance in the mid 1960s! My Hungarian Gram handmade my "thousand" pleated skirt, red velvet vest & crown and balloon sleeved blouse ..... cant forget the bells on my ankle! What wonderful memories!
Beautiful! I just DJ'ed a wedding at the Grand Halle, and also our last priest in State College was at St. Rochus until it closed, so I was very interested in the history of these churches!
Please identify the name of the church and the city where it's located. It appears to be Catholic, based on the music...
13:07 Daniel Morrel looks like Rosevelt to me… very interesting
Do you have this on vhs?
This scenario was repeated over and over in coal country. It still is, just not on the same scale.
May these brave men rest in peace. Did the problems found by the mine expector, referred to in this video, have anything to do with the explosian ?
Mine safety regulation and rules are written in the blood of previous mine victims. I am very much aware that their sacrifice has brought me relatively safely through my coal mining career. Rest in peace fellows.
She is awesome! ❤
She was my Role Model back in the 70’s. She gave me the incentive to pursue my career as a nurse, in which I did! When my husband Bill and myself would come out to pa from jersey, she would always make time for us at the office for our eye exams. Also for our children! She is awesome, compassionate and remembers everything! I had called her last year, she actually remembered me. Plan is next time which is next month will call her again and hopefully we can visit. Covid, put a stop to last year. You Rock Dr. Sattel! Hope to see you soon! Love ya! Heart❤
My father, born and raised in Johnstown, Pa. Is definitely an iron man. Never, have I ever seen or met another man with such strong conviction and unmoveable force. He is the one only Superman in my book. Man of steel.
My dad was born and raised in Johnstown, Pa. Its the only place in the state that is in my heart. I will only accept colonial items that is from Johnstown. No where else in the country.
Can anyone name the music?
Just Great
As a Johnstown native, I admire these iron men who made industrial America. After the great flood, Andrew Carnegie hired much of the elite talent away from Cambria Iron and Steel and moved them to Pittsburgh.
I wasted 35 minutes on this to find out how Cambria Iron morphed into Bethlehem Steel and what role Charles Schwab played. Neither is ever mentioned.
Poor kids , there mom had to make a living to raise them The company screwed the workers families extremely badly Failure of our system 😢
Mine needs to be shut down until repairs are completed, then regular inspections daily after
This is history that's deserves to be remembered...thanks for posting it....am sure it means a lot to these guy's family's 👍👍👍👍
my grandfather, an italian immigrant, was an iron miner. he died at 46 of silicosis making the owners rich.
If you think about when this happened it was at the end of a world that changed extremely by December 1941. Its heart breaking that these men died in such away. They lived and loced more than most of us because they knew how fast it could be lost. God bless them all.
These men were brave souls working to support their families. God bless them.
So many multiple family members rip old miners
your grandson from slovkia what was his last name?
'Promosm'
after the plane was hijacked the idiot passengers should have done something other than just sit there eating peanuts watching the in-flight moviel. what bunch of buttfaces
This was a neat historical piece. Im not to far from j-town. Im thinking about taking a couple workshops in the metal arts building.
I love how the small cities or boroughs all came together to help out their buddies.
Very informative.
Freeman George is my husband's 1C2R (1st cousin, twice removed). It was very moving and informative to watch this video and I appreciate the time and effort that went into producing it.
My Great grandfather was Michael Tigyer he worked in that mine at the time. The story I have been told by family is that he was supposed to be down there but was up above at the time due to some thing with getting tools. But he survived!
My parents who are in their mid 80 grew up in Portage I remember them talking about this many times My grandfather on my moms side Patty Sopata was a cart driver and a bit of a drinker apparently but I don’t know if he worked in this mine
My grandfather George Zimmerman, and uncle Laird Zimmerman were killed in this explosion. I never had the privilege of meeting either of them. I wonder whether my grandpa was stumpy George mentioned in this video. My mother Emerald Zimmerman Hastie would tell me often that I looked like and reminded her of her of her brother
Sorry I sent that comment before I finished. Just want to thank all those responsible in the making of this video.
Does anyone have 1980s from St. Emerich's ? Any format.
you can tell those are actors at 3:30 , got his battery on the front of his belt and his light cord dangling out front!
Lovely!
👍🇧🇷
A terrible and unnecessary tragedy.
I. did not know so much of this history. Johnstown is a great place to grow up in 1950 to 1970.
Oh, I like this! Thank you, and I hope there are more to come. I grew up in Johnstown, but came to Pittsburgh in 1984 when jobs were hard to come by. I miss it.
ya aint missing nothing
hey i like cha daz
csardas
really liked this!!!!!!!! i worked with some men from portage at the rushton mine in centre county!!
My Grandfather, Billy O'Boyle, went down into the mines in Pennsylvania at 12 years old - like so many others from poor, hard- working families. Thank you for THIS.🙏💓🍀💐
I grew up in wilmore
Very interesting that it seemed like Johnstown was an integrated place in the 60s and earlier .
Very interesting !!!! Thank you for this .
Great storyteller🇺🇸
Good story teller.
Very well done
