Never losing site of the childish joy of riding a bike - whether mountain biking, bikepacking, or grocery-getting.
Vietnam Mountain Biking | NYE 2024
What a great NYE morning! The NEMBA Vietnam trails in Milford, MA have been my happy place for a few years now, and I'm grateful for every ride.

Loamstar | Thunder Mountain Bike Park | Fall 2024

Thunder Mountain may be most famous for Fort Hill, and the jumps on Gronk, but the tech trails are really excellent. Sadly, my GoPro died early, so this is the only full tech run I captured from my day, but it's a good one! Loamstar is on the easier end of single black diamond tech at Thunder Mountain. It offers a fun opportunity to stop and spectate Fort Hill from up close, and it you get sick...

My All Time Favorite MTB Trail System: Vietnam
what bars of those? I have Ritchey Kyote bars, but would like something with a little less backsweep
@@51249ca mine are the Velo Orange Seine bar. They have 35 degrees of sweep which I think is more than the 27 degrees of the Kyote. I love them most of the time but occasionally with for something with a little less too. It’s hard to find the perfect fit!
Next summer try Circuits Frontières in East Hereford Quebec beautiful little town near the border of New Hampshire and Vermont and it's not that far from Kingdom Trail
Thanks for the recommendation! It looks like an incredible trail system
Ma dude, thank you for this *detsiled* review of the blackthorn...a shop is building my cassidy right now and I should be able to pick it up this week. Not a ton of in depth reviews out there since the salsa brand isn't a huge share of the mtb market....again, big thanks man
My pleasure, and thanks for watching and glad you found it helpful. Please do report back with how you like it! What’s your build kit looking like?
I'm a simple guy, I open youtube, I see a new Roots Rocks Raffi video, I watch it.
That’s a fun section!! 😂
Agreed - today it decided I (and a stanchion) was the sacrifice
@ ugh 😩. Can’t wait to get back there and see the new progress of the new trails..! Cheers 🍻 buddy
They look 😍
Dance like nobody is looking!
Good stuff, Happy New Year!
5:35 where is this little drop thing? do you know the trail name?
this is what's known as the halfpipe. on Trailforks this little section as called HP Connector www.trailforks.com/trails/hp-connector-355688/
I never knew there was trails there!
should probably clarify that these are the NEMBA Vietnam trails in Massachussetts
@@RootsRocksRaffiGotcha, thanks for the reply!
@ Gotcha, thanks for the reply!
This deserves a more likes 👍
You never cease to amaze me!!
Doesnt the Cassidy have more travel? Not sure why you'd shorten the travel. Great video on this though.
@@Oper8or just a matter of preference depending on the trails. I like pedaling the Blackthorn better and it’s plenty of travel for the 5-6 foot drops i do
I want to correct your statement of why bridges were covered. Back when the roads were used by horse drawn carriages and sleighs in the winter the snow was not plowed. In winter the carriage was swapped out for sleighs so the snow on the road was rolled to pack it down. Snow would melt off the bridges and the sled runners would drag over the bridge boards. To solve this roofs were added to keep the snow from melting.
Hey dude, video is sick and super helpful. I just noticed you put a different shock back on. Is this because of preference or do you have to get a shock that matches the travel of the new linkage? thinking of swapping to a cassidy from my blackthorn and want to know if i can just use the same shock.
thanks for watching and glad it was helpful. You DO need a DIFFERENT rear shock in addition to the different linkage in order to convert to the Cassidy. The Cassidy needs a 230 x 62.5 rear shock
@@dmitrypeters2983 if you’re thinking of buying the suspension for the Cassidy, I was actually planning on selling the superdeluxe and Zeb. Lmk :) (I just use the blackthorn way more).
where is the jump on this trail
Wow!
Unfortunately, you may have to wait until spring 2025 to go in, because of the drout's fire damage.
Yeah, it's very sad! Thankful that the rain finally came
This was really fun when I rode it !
yaaaaow
I think the speed is good, you just need to pull up a bit more
nice barn drop love thunder...nice ride
Good review 😅😅 how that view not a meme lol
Haha you have my full blessings to try to make it one
That Trail looks sick
You could go a little faster than turtle speed.
It’s typically polite not to run the person in front of you over when the whole crew is riding the trail blind
@@RootsRocksRaffi it’s all polite not to backseat ride and tell the person to watch their line after they’ve already ridden it like your their father or something. What a weirdo.
That looks so fun :D
That was the softest fall ive seen😂
You’re telling me
YOUR SKIN IS LITERALLY GLOWING MORE THAN MY DAD'S BALD HEAD
😂
I’ve been looking at the Ripmo for a couple years and recently came across the Salsa Blackthorn. It is sooo much cheaper than the Ripmo. Wondering what your recommendation since you have ridden both?
Yeah, tough to say a bad word about the ripmo, but tell me more about where you usually ride
Awesome video!
Beautiful
Looks amazing. Have wanted to get there for some time!
I got lost there too--just rode for first time today. Saw some videos where local guides showed them around and they uncovered a ton of stuff I didn't find today. Will be back there at some point. Awesome video, btw!
thanks so much! I tried to follow other peoples' trail forks rides but was still super tough. I'll always take an excuse to need to go back, though
sick dude def wanna hit this
Kikaw
Next year the goats take the crest
what psi do you run?
I’m about 190lbs + gear and run around 24 psi. The tires here are double down casing too or I use inserts with exo+
Serious question. What's an undertow on a trail?
I guess you'd have to ask the builders - but the flow does tend to move you around side to side kind of like an undertow?
Vietnam!
always and forever
Gracias, buen aporte! Y buen like!
Thank you for watching! Did they recommend 215 in the bladder, or in the primary air chamber? I think the bladder has a max of 200. Lower pressure on the bladder will make the bike feel more firm, and less pressure should make it feel softer. With pressure in the primary chamber, if you go too low to try and make it feel soft, it will actually feel MUCH worse. This video was helpful for me ua-cam.com/video/5pIH9opsE7Q/v-deo.htmlsi=aFqVYRkA5S5S14O6. At the end of the day, you just need to experiment and try different things to find what works!
Where is this? Looks awesome.

GO MIKEY GOOOO
I'm getting you a swear jar Raffi 😊😂.
tidal wave?? geometry dash reference
Too bad you had such awful weather.
Yeah. Tough life
I watched your cassidy and blacktorn videos as I just bought the Cassidy as it was too hard to pass up the deal at $2199. I also have a ripmo af with jade x coil. I have a couple rides on the cassidy and it pedals really well for that much travel. The ripmo af is so far my favorite bike for the front range of colorado where I live. It can handle xc type stuff to flow and black diamonds. The cassidy is a monster through black diamond stuff more so than the ripmo. Heading to Trestle this week with the Cassidy which is why I bought it for bike park duty.
I completely agree with how you laid out the differences. The Ripmo feels sooooooo good on the flow but when it gets chunky and steep I like the feel of the Blackthorn / Cassidy better. It's fun to be able to experiment with different bikes and we live in a time of so many great choices.
Yep, this is pretty much what the majority of New England trails look like:rocks
😂😂 that might be tough for them beer bellied boomers 😂😂
What trail is this
The trail is called Challenger - the feature on Trailforks is named Roller Derby
Back on your bike!!!❤
Very nice! I ride some different rail trails here in NH. Not bike-packing though.... just 20-30 mile stretches... a ride of a couple hours is all I'm really looking for, and rail trails are a nice change from my normal hilly up/down gravel routes near where I live. A great way to get some exercise, see wonderful nature and go too fast for the bugs!
Did you post the review in Cassidy? I appreciate the comment on the flip chip I may put in high position and see how I like it. I have a Cassidy
😬I haven't yet gotten around to it- oops! What kind of trails do you mostly ride?
