Hi, thanks for the videos, a quick questions, after registration, what if your payroll software does not support adding benefits in kind to each employee, can we do it manually?
The payroll software needs to support payrolling benefits for this to work, so if it doesn’t you can’t do this unless the software gets upgraded or change software providers.

Rubbish! Its an unnecessary tax.
I understand your point - but we’re not talking about that. We’re saying reaching the vat threshold is a sign of a growing business and is a milestone that should be celebrated as you’ve grown your business to that size. And as accountants we can help plan and prepare so your business growth continues.

My biggest issue is HOW do I put this money aside. So, I’m a limited company and I for example, I make £2000 a week, I upload my £2000 invoice into my accounting software and it says I can withdraw £1700 in distributable profit that week, so I make a bank transfer of £1500 into my personal account, to pay my mortgage (£1047 as salary and £453 as dividend) how exactly do I put the money aside? Am I supposed to withdraw an additional 8.75% of £453 to put aside for directors tax return? I am constantly back paying taxes because I have no idea how I’m supposed to withdraw what I need whilst putting aside for all the different taxes at the same time 😩
Thanks so much for your comment! Without knowing the ins and outs of your business and the software you're using, I'll just have to give a generalised answer. Firstly, the profit - which is first taxable, and then available for dividends, is, as a limited company AFTER your salary with goes through payroll and any operating costs. So, of the £2000, £1047 is already deducted as your salary, leaving £953 'profit'. I imagine you do have other operating costs and so the profit would be lower in reality. You would then need to put aside the percentage of that profit amount for Corporation Tax - £181 if you're at 19%, leaving you with £772 available as your dividend, of which you can take as much or as little as you like. We would suggest having a 'personal savings account', where you then put the 8.75% ready for your personal tax. Paying for personal tax through your company will actually cause you to end up paying more, so this is what we advise. Hope this makes sense! Of course, a big issue for many businesses at the moment is actually making enough so that you can be able to take enough!
