Almost Kicked Out of an Art Museum
Humor Not Welcome
Have you ever been kicked out of an art museum? I haven’t, but we almost were one time.
We went to the Oklahoma City Museum of Art one year, mainly to see the Dale Chihuly sculpture. Chihuly creates beautiful sculptures out of multi-colored blown glass, and the front of the OCMOA has a sculpture that is several stories high. It is beautiful and awe-inspiring and there is a whole gallery of smaller artworks beside the large sculpture.
But, you don’t want to just look at one exhibit during a museum visit, so we went to the other floors of the museum to check them out. That’s when the trouble began.
My daughter Kim had a flip phone with her, and she took it out for some reason. Almost immediately, the museum’s curator was by her side. “No pictures allowed!” she said. Kim explained to her that flip phones cannot take photos, but the curator repeated “No pictures allowed!” Kim said she only wished that her phone could take photos, but the curator insisted that she put the phone in her pocket.
Then, we came upon an exhibit called “50 States.” I swear, this exhibit looked like the “artist” had sat down with 10 paintbrushes, 10 different colors of paint and a spiral notebook. He dipped the brush in a paint, made a bold brush stroke on the page, then took out the next color. Some states were represented with two strokes and some with three. Some used parallel strokes, while some had intersecting strokes, but each stroke was a different color. When the paint was dry, the “artist” tore the paper out of the spiral notebook and used push pins to pin it on the wall.
I realize I may not be sophisticated enough to understand such “art,” and I told Kim, “Hey, you have a spiral notebook; let me get you some paintbrushes and paint, and you can make some big bucks!”
Just as I said that, I noticed the curator standing there, looking disapprovingly. We hurried on to the next exhibit. This exhibit was by a number of Dutch impressionists. All the paintings were dark and dreary, with a lot of grays and blacks. They looked like they were all painted during a heavy fog.
As we looked at the Dutch impressionist paintings, I noticed a recurring theme in all of them. “Look at these paintings!” I said. “Every one of them is a painting of cows and peasants.” I turned a corner, and the very next painting I saw was entitled, “Cows and Peasants.” I am sorry, but I was unable to control my laughter, and the curator looked like she was going to forcefully remove us from the museum.
A few months ago, my wife and I went back to the OKCMOA to see the Georgia O’Keefe exhibit. (It was only a few tiny O’Keefe paintings, interspersed with more, larger paintings by an O’Keefe contemporary.) I was pleased that the museum now allows you to take photos as long as you don’t use a flash. Progress.

Winter Wonderland Is Perfect Any Day

Winter Wonderland Have you ever noticed how many “Christmas” songs don’t even mention Christmas? Because of that, they really could be played any time of the year. One really fun song is “Winter Wonderland,” which mentions nothing whatsoever about anything having to do with Christmas. Here are the lyrics: Winter Wonderland Sleigh bells ring, are you listening, In the lane, snow is glistening A ...
Lessons from The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever When I was in seminary, my professor read out loud “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” by Barbara Robinson. It is a wonderful book that has spawned two movies; the latest is at movie theaters now. What I love about the story is that it embodies the Christmas spirit in a funny, but heartwarming way. I read it to my children for several Christmases, and this year was...
The Impact of Early Head Start Saving Lives

Saving Our Children Donald Trump and his Project 2025 have goals to eliminate many programs and supposedly cut government spending. While there are definitely programs that should be trimmed or even eliminated, sometimes the baby gets thrown out with the bath water. That could happen with Early Head Start. That would be a tragic mistake. Head Start began in 1964 to give disadvantaged children h...

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen There is a Christmas song that has one line that bothers me. The song is “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.” It’s been performed hundreds of times and is a regular staple in Christmas music. The line that bothers me is “Remember Christ our Savior was born on Christmas Day.” OK, let’s analyze that. Christmas is a birthday celebration for Jesus Christ. So, the song is sayin...

Teaching the Bible in Schools

Bibles in School Several states have recently decided to start teaching the Bible in schools, and Oklahoma’s State Superintendent of Public Instruction ordered all schools to start teaching from the King James Version of the Bible. How Trump’s Tariffs Will Impact American Manufacturing

Everything is Made in China Donald Trump has promised to start imposing massive tariffs on imports to encourage American factories to step up production here. While I am all for rebuilding American manufacturing, I also realize that this is not something that is going to happen overnight. Shuttered factories will have to be reopened, when possible. Other factories will need to be built from scr...

Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? Part 1 In 1969, the group Chicago released their first album, Chicago Transit Authority, and in 1970 they released a great sounding song with annoying lyrics, “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?” Released during the age of hippies and free spirits, it tells of forcing philosophical discussions on people who just wanted to know the time. Why I Stay Home on Black Friday A Holiday Tale

Why I Stay Home on Black Friday A Holiday Tale
You should read my blog from Monday about that. I don't think people have thought it through exactly what their children may be learning.
But it's a start! KJV or no, at least there is an opportunity for students to be educated about a belief system which historically had a tremendous impact on our fledgling nation and which helped to shape it. Your Mr. Berkeley may have been a bit of a bonehead, but the KJV's middle-English language quirks can be easily explained in very little time (and it might help students to know a little more about the roots of the English language, besides exposure to Chaucer's _Canterbury Tales_ ... if they are even getting that bit of exposure these days). I taught 7th Grade Math for 1 year. I had students ask me questions like, "Why should I behave?" and "Why should I respect my elders?" I was not allowed at that time by my principal to give any answer which derived from the Bible. I would have loved to have been able to flip open a Bible and say something like, "For the past 20 centuries many people in the world found these words to be good advice, and in their minds these words provided an answer to that question," and then to have shared a couple of pertinent quotes. Maybe it would have made a beneficial impression on some of the "stinkers" in the group, such as the boy whose self-confessed goal in life was to be a drug addict and drug dealer. Alas, my principal had forbidden any mention of the Bible in any context in the classroom.
I worked in manufacturing parts for Farm equipment, we shipped many to Foreign countries for John Deere.
That's good. John Deere is a high quality product.
@Dave.parker_Writer WE made parts for not just John Deere, but CAT, JI CASE HI, DRESSER, DETROIT DIESEL, CHRYSLER, FORD. The company started in 1942.
Americans and the new version of "Shooting in the foot", tariff only gone incresa price and skyrock Inflation
This is not why he imposed the tariffs.
That depends on what day you listen to. When he originally announced it, he said it was to encourage American factories to reopen (which is a good thing). But now, he has tied it into stemming the flood of narcotics into the U.S. (which is also a good thing). Whatever the reason, though, consumers are going to foot the bill.

@@Dave.parker_Writerit absolutely isn’t true. He was in office for 4 year and didn’t do the things you are claiming. Harris has been in office for the past 4 years, and as she stated, she was the last person in the room for the important decisions, and she can’t think of anything she would change from the Biden/Harris administration. Yeah… We’ll pray for you, partner. We are free to have our opinions and that’s why this country is great… You might want to do some research though. Kamala is unfit to be an uber driver and she should have done something sooner about Biden’s mental decline. That’s her job as second in line and I think we can agree on that. Too many fumbles, gaffes, and wandering aimlessly to ignore. I certainly don’t view Trump as a man of God, though. That we agree on. Thank you for your service, my friend and God bless! 🇺🇸
@@davidhill5869Thank you. I am not saying Kamala is the greatest candidate ever. But as a journalist for 27 years, I always do my research. And, my bottom line will always be the Constitution. If you try to circumvent the Constitution I will always fight against you. God bless you.
@ absolutely, and I’m right there with you. I cannot stand when people talk about the founding fathers and documents as if we’ve “evolved” so they need to be rewritten (which is what Biden said about the second amendment. And Kamala said “there needs to be regulation for all social media platforms to stop the flow of disinformation getting out to the public) referring to the fact that Elon musk says what he wants because he owns X) that is 100% unconstitutional. The first and second amendment are, in my opinion, the most important because they are the first to go when the wrong people take power and try to turn us to communism. Trump never said anything like that. I also believe in strong borders since my brother died of a fentanyl/heroin overdose. I never considered myself a republican, since I hated Bush and voted for Obama (the first time) and honestly didn’t vote for trump in 2016 either, but the left has left the reservation and things are getting dark for the future of our children. Wouldn’t you agree?
If there was a textbook definition of a weak, sad beta cuck out there, it would be this clown. Just think, in 5 days, Trump will be your daddy all over again and cause an even more epic snowflake meltdown than the first time around. 😊
The same people saying Donald Trump didn’t do enough during Covid are the same ones who called him racist for saying it came from China (which it did) and placing travel bans , funny how things change
You summed it up! Harris Walz 2024 ✔️🔵🗳
I couldn't agree more with that, well said. Other countries did very bad as well, like Spain, where lockdowns were delayed and elderly homes were allowed to work without any protections. Thousands of elderly died. In percentages, Spain was as bad as the us

I'm very sorry about your brother. I'm on the opposite side of your political and religious beliefs, but such a death in the family is extremely sad. My brother was of the same beliefs as you. Unfortunately, he was a covid denier and a medical science denier to the end of his life. And even though we are Canadians, he saw trump as a God sent savior. May your brother and his wife and my brother RIP.
Thank you! Good points. January 6 should be a deal breaker for anyone who respects the Constitution and the rule of law.
