Double 18" DIY Horn Demo
Quick demo of the double 18" horn....had to be quick...I was going to get the cops called....
1. Couple of notes...I had the action cam lightly gaffed to the brace...during the demo it broke free and started to rotate...I couldn't have planned it better.
2. I only had one of two horns active, so balance is a tad bright with the tops, but the bass was so violent in my garage and house I figured I'd get the cops called pretty quick if I had both playing. Gets a little distorted at the end, but that's mic overloading...not the horn.

    HPF for a sub completely and entirely destroys a group delay. Makes it at least 16-20msec for 40Hz or even higher. Objected. You have to filter out subsonic freqs in your phono preamp. Other sources won't have them (or you can use a phase neutral digital HPF). And thank you sir that explained a bit more how to use that Martian software (a Nobel prize to the author for that UI). If it's free, I wonder why it's not an open source, so some more experienced developers could create a human friendly UI for it.

    It's march 26 of 2024, so I am 3 years late. But what a fantastic class! One of the best videos on the theme I have seen, thank you so much for sharing the knowledge. Hope can someday continue doing the videos. Greetings from Bogota, Colombia.

    I enjoyed the passive crossover design info and was very interested in obtaining 2 Faital horns but none are available. Also I can't read the crossover specs as listed on design sheet--blurry.

    Hello there! I would like to ask a question regarding to manipulating the tweeter SPL level. I don't want to use L-pad, and I saw different design choices on the net. They use only 1 resistor in series with the tweeter, and sometimes the resistor is before the capacitor and coil, sometimes it is after them. I noticed that before the capacitor and coil it pushes down the freq response as a whole without "bending" it in any shape or form, but if it is after the capacitor and coil, then it leaves the "declining" part more or less in place, and it "pushes" down the top horizontal part. Which one would you recommend? Is there a huge disadvantage for any of these solutions?

    Is that the effect Danley said when transducer are within 1/4 wavelength they coupled together to produce +6dB boost in SPL? Linkwitz once answered that woofer in parallel boost 6dB in SPL and 3dB in power efficiency. But He didn't specify under how strict condition would it coupled that well.

    • @datdudeinred
      @datdudeinred 7 місяців тому

      They only couple if it's a horn loaded design. Atleast far more efficiently. You can see that in impedence plots much more than freq response. (i think the 2x 18" Subwoofer Enclosure design pdf available on sbaudience website in application section explains this)

    Must have the coffee and water. Passive crossovers do waste power in the bass section, how much powere depends on the design and parts choice.

    Hey great video, I'm thinking of reducing the horn throat area on our scoops, thus increasing the compression ratio. Do you know how to determine what the horn throat area and compression ratio should be? Thank you sir 😊

    Hello. With regards to the impulse setting of the IR window, can you please tell me, due to the sweep total time, does the IR take snapshots of the room every time the IR window time is spent? I'm a little confused with how the rest of the reflections are removed and not just the first reflection. Thank you. I hope you find the time to respond.

    Trying to go through all your videos and papers. Enjoying them and learning a lot! In this live video you were talking about using some sub ports solely for cooling air exchange. I was wondering if you have heard of anyone who has tried using a couple of ports with Tesla valve or valvular conduit profiles (act as check valves with no moving parts) in them to pump air into and out of the space behind a woofer. Have heard they work well with pulsatile gas flows. Could likely make square ports with these profiles using a CNC router table, although you would likely have to stack cut parts for large ports. If regular ports provide all the cooling needed, probably not worth the extra effort. Keep up the good work!
