From striking color palettes and luxurious textures to sustainability and global influences, this video is all about using fashion as a springboard to create inspiring, personalized, and functional spaces.
Here’s what we’ll cover:
🌈 Color Palettes: Embracing duality in design-vivid, high-energy colors like cobalt blue and magenta balanced with earthy tones and soft pastels.
🌟 Textures & Materials: Cozy boucle, sleek leather, and shimmering metallics bring a mix of glamour and grounding elements.

🎭 Maximalism & Personalization: Layered designs, statement pieces, and unique decor that truly reflect you.
💡 Oversized Pieces: Big, structured furniture and statement lighting anchor a room with bold style.
🪞 Tailoring & Structure: Clean lines, sculptural shapes, and thoughtful details bring a refined, tailored touch to interiors.

    I just learned something new about pocket holes when you were talking about which direction to do them! I never thought of that before. Everyone I’ve watched before just does them so fast and never really talks about why they chose the orientation they did

    Would adding another bracket to those diffusers help with the sagging in the middle?

    • @theclaytorhouse
      @theclaytorhouse 9 днів тому

      Unfortunately, I don’t think so😞 They are bent from when I cut them on the saw, trying to do too many at once. The ones I tried adding an extra bracket to just popped right back out of it. I also tried nailing a few of them in place, and it just punctured a hole through the aluminum🤷🏻‍♂️ Those sagging channels are still my biggest gripe about the project- I wish I would have just cut them one at a time🙃

    Hi! I have a question, I want to do something similar, however to do the build in look I’m looking for the Billie bookcases are a little too wide, is there a way to cut them down to make them more narrow? Thank you!

    • @theclaytorhouse
      @theclaytorhouse 10 днів тому

      Hi! 😊 You can absolutely trim the Billy bookcases to make them narrower! While I haven’t done this myself, you could use a miter or circular saw to trim the shelves and sides down before assembly. On the cut edge, you’d need to redrill the holes for the included hardware to reassemble everything as normal. For added durability, I’d recommend replacing the back panel with 1/2" plywood, attaching it with pocket holes for extra structural support. And if you’re building them in, be sure to secure them firmly to the surrounding structure for stability! Here’s a video from someone who trimmed theirs down that you might find helpful: ua-cam.com/video/GGRMPQvDsl0/v-deo.htmlsi=_JdMdKwekQHSF7X8. They used 19/64" and 5/8" drill bits, but you could also use a 5/8" forstner bit. You can find one on Amazon (amzn.to/40mO67w) or at a hardware store-Harbor Freight usually has great prices! (Note: The Amazon link is an affiliate link, which means I may earn a small commission if you purchase through it at no extra cost to you😊) If trimming feels like too much work, IKEA also offers a 15-3/4" wide version of the Billy that might fit better without modification, depending on your space. If you’d like more specific guidance, I also offer one-on-one design consultations via the contact page on my website (www.theclaytorhouse.com/contact). I’d love to help! ♥️

    I loved the video! ❤ Promoting sustainability is always great, plus vintage feels like it has a soul and had its own life before you, so that trend is my favourite, I also believe we shouldn’t listen to what's "trendy" cause trends come and go, but get what we actually love and what could be timeless (for us) ☺❤

    • @theclaytorhouse
      @theclaytorhouse 11 днів тому

      I totally agree!☺️ I’m not a fan of constantly switching things out just because something new or 'trendy' comes along-it’s definitely not a sustainable way to live. However, I do love how trends (both new and old) can offer fresh ideas that inspire us to express our personal style in new ways. I see them as an opportunity to evolve into the most authentic versions of ourselves♥️ I’m so glad you liked the video and share my love of vintage/antique pieces!!!

    I always imagined you’d have the same carpet throughout a house, but now I’m thinking you don’t need to and maybe shouldn’t! Can you have cool neutral colours in the bedroom carpets and warm neutral colours in the lounge room carpet for example?

    • @theclaytorhouse
      @theclaytorhouse 18 днів тому

      Great question! While having the same flooring throughout a house can create a seamless look, using different rugs in each room is a great way to showcase the unique personality of each space. You can absolutely mix cool neutrals in one area and warm neutrals in another! The key is to maintain some cohesion by ensuring the overall palettes of the rooms share 1-2 common colors. For example, I have warm oak LVP flooring throughout my entire house. In my bedroom, I have a neutral rug with cooler tones, and I’m planning to paint the walls brown. Meanwhile, my living room will eventually have a warm neutral rug paired with warm white walls and a brown sofa. Both spaces lean warm overall and share browns and tans as a thread of continuity, but the rugs themselves will have distinctly different palettes. It’s all about finding balance while keeping each room feeling connected-and, most importantly, bringing in whatever colors make you happy in your home! 😊

    • @Baldy4495
      @Baldy4495 17 днів тому

      @ thank you, that sounds like a good way to keep it versatile as well, leaning more into easily changeable parts like rugs to lean a room warmer or cooler etc. A close to neutral carpet throughout, emphasising the cool relaxing colours in rugs, doona covers, throws etc.

    I vote fairview taupe. They all seem good with the fireplace color, but I like that one best with the floors. I’m new to your channel, but I watch way too many DIY and woodworking videos, and just wanted to say your content is as good or better than channels that are 200x bigger. I’d watch vlogmas!

    Poplar notoriously doesn't stain well because of the green tones and strong color variations it has, but takes paint beautifully because it has a tight grain. It's almost always used for painted finishes.

I watch tons of woodworking UA-cam channels for inspiration-they’re super helpful! The trickiest part is honestly the math, so I make plenty of sketches before and during the whole process. I promise it’s worth it-and I’m always here if you need any tips along the way!

      @@theclaytorhousehi! I left a comment and am hoping you saw, I want to do the similar design however my wall space isn’t quite enough. Can the Billie bookcases be cut to make them more narrow? Thank you!!

    • @theclaytorhouse
      @theclaytorhouse 6 днів тому

      @teragogirl Hi! ♥️
