Just an ordinary guy recording his rides and trips on a 2017 LC BMW R1200RT LE. I don’t do this for the money so there’s no sponsorship, no paid promotion, no merchandise, no Patreon. I generally post a weekly video on Friday at 7:00pm WET/WEST. Any comments are vetted prior to publication. Moronic or abusive comments just aren’t published. I am using your vids for ideas on how to avoid the Black Cat roundabout. Worked out just fine.
Glad to be of service!
Interesting route to the west. Very enjoyable but looks a bit busy. I like that road myself.
Oh man im excited to find a vlogger on an RT! Hard to find long term owner content on the bike, especially given how popular it is
Thank you for the kind comment Sir. Hope you enjoy my little videos.
For your subscribers, the potholes were still there last Saturday. Will they ever get filled in? From the title I guess you drive a car as well, I suppose most bikers do have both unless the car is for 'er indoors. I notice we never see your route through Baldock.
Why would you say that? I find BMW GS riders less likely to wave or nod than Harley riders.
GS riders are the worst. They won’t even nod or wave to a fellow BMW rider especially one on an RT. You did spot that it wasn’t a Harley though.
A1(M)? Surely the Mardley Heath and Knebworth road is more your style.
Needs must, as they say.
You will need to avoid your favourite route on the Codicote road and back of Knebworth Park on 3 November. There will be lots of marathon runners and closed roads round there.
Thanks for the heads up.
I actually miss the sharp bend to the right on the 602. It isn't as picturesque any more. Like your road number captions though, borrowed from the Scotland trip guess.
Great vids like the fact you give the road numbers and headings
Thank you for the kind comment Sir.
Still watching every Friday night. Not sure I would have spotted that grey car pulling out from the right in time.
Thank you. To be honest, I’m surprised that anyone would watch an ‘old geezer’ riding his motorbike around. When I first started riding fifty years ago I joined the Self-Preservation Society and have been a firm advocate ever since.
Started on a Honda 50 in 1973 and been riding on and off ever since. Mostly off but back in the saddle again. At least my A license got transferred to my over 70s photo card!
How long does it take to get from Tewin to your final destination up in Scotland? More than one day I guess.
Ten hour riding day but twelve hours with a fuel stop and a lunch stop. But no one would watch a video that long!
Full screen on my 21 inch monitor is like riding the bike myself. 😐 Had to go back to smaller view for my nerves especially on the slippy bit!
Amazing and entertaining video. Makes me also feel riding and record a new video.
Great to hear!
I am guessing that you put your Scotland videos up out of chronological order. The last video of the Tewin area looked like it was late spring early summer but this looks like March.
Yes. It takes a lot longer to get all the editing done for a trip so it ends up out of sequence. The remaining four episodes are uploaded and then we’ll be back to local rides. Second Scotland trip of 2024 currently being edited and will appear later in the year.
A fine spring day up through the borders, you do love that A68. Keep practicing with the lingo though. Cheers
Good day, what's the reason for the extra mirrors?
Two reasons: it assists when I have extra soft bags on the pannier racks; and the OEM mirrors are set at their widest angle to cover the blind spot.
I think I would have said something too...
That road was making my nerves bad and I wasn't even the rider. You make your videos too real. Where the heck was that road you really didn't want to be on?
The initial closure was at Barkway and I made my way to Great Chishill via Nuthampstead Road and Bogmoor Road (I think).
I was expecting a yee-ha when the car pulled off the road into its drive. That old Roman road is wonderfully straight but no test of your cornering skills.
I have the Land Rover Defender 130 but don't have the optional boxes fitted as they are a bit of a gimmick really.
Are they supposed to be for storage?
@@thetewintourer Theoretically, yes, but the most likely reason is that they were trying to create a look and feel factor similar to the marketing gimmicks used in the motorbiking world. Much of the design characteristics with vehicles these days are more visceral than they are behavioural. So, practical purpose often lags behind image.
You have inspired me to go on that Codicote Road again. First bike ride along there in 30 years today on a 30 year old (new to me) Honda CD 250 U. At 70 y.o. I took it really steady though.
You’re only as old as the bike you ride!
I love the way you use space time portals to get from going north west on the Luton road to going north east out of Hertford.
It’s magic!
We forget that being riders, we have better observation than most people. A lot of these are just regular drivers being regular drivers (ie bell-ends)..
That Welwyn Codicote Hitchin road won't be the same when they build super-Stevenage to your right.
Is that definitely happening?
@@thetewintourer With the national and local governments now being the same with lots of brownfield around, like the scrapyard, I wouldn't put it past them.
I think the lines you take, I'm have convinced you used to be in the service... 🙂 Good to hear you're less shy now and talking a bit more...
So how do you get from going north up the A10 suddenly to the Hertford Road? Must be some cut through!
It’s magic! Bit of the southbound B1040 used to splice the two together.
Riding a R1200RT in Egypt, I can assure you this is just normal traffic 😂, nothing outrageous in this video
Also, is there a prize for the spot-the-difference competition this week..? At 21:10 your Insta 360 camera disappeared and I claim the prize...
Ah yes, good spot. I took it off when the battery ran out.
I think you had heard that a sale was on in this video :-).
😉
From memory and the bikers I used to know in the 70s and 80s the worse one for speed runs round that way was the A1198. I can't place the B1000. By the way, it is now mid June and the rough bit near the end of the Tewin road is still as bad as ever.
Just a quick interjection, I think the point of that horrible scarification on the surface is deliberate to actually prevent motorcyclists in particular, from speeding. That road (B1000) was notorious in the 1990's with several fatalities. It makes it unpleasant to ride now, even at sensible speeds, Sorry carry on.
Ah right. I didn’t know that but it certainly feels like it was deliberately done that way.
I knew the moment you came to the junction that you would spot that pothole. I must have been at the junction around that time and I predicted then that you would have something to say about it in your video!
I do hope I’m not becoming too predictable.
Definitely getting out on your bike more than I am again this year. I dunno if I completely missed the regular visit to Morrisons for refueling that you mentioned coming up but I kept thinking its a long way away :-)
Haha! I cut the fuel stop out of the video.
I think you like the A68, great weather and it wasn't too busy either. Not 'The Wilderness' but in late spring Lauderdale and southwards through Teviotdale always look fantastic. Enjoyed your video. Cheers man
Wonderful scenery.
Sorry to have missed you but that was a bit early for me.
Cracking
Some great scenery in this series. Brought alive when the blue skies appear. Did well to be up before 7am and ready to start the long journey back...
Nice been over they roads a few times
The reason we own motorcycles. Beautiful.
Great video thanks. Always amuses me when filtering how some drivers move over to allow you to pass whilst a few actively move to block.
Thank you Sir. One of life’s inescapable mysteries that.
Awesome roads! Stunning scenery
I look forward to the full Tour videos . It looks amazing.
My part of the world at the end there.
I meant pass under.
18:58 I have a painting of that viaduct done by a local artist. Gets me every time you passenger it.
It's always colder, or feels like it, after hanging around for a longer service.
Icy roads on an unfamiliar bike! A true hero, rather you than me.
When you’re booked in for ‘recall’ work you’ve gotta do it.
For some reason I stopped the vid at 7.49 just after the crazy Nissan driver and there you were written on the road! Bet you were glad to get behind that fairing on the way home. The temps are supposed to be in double digits next week, its getting warmer.
I’m hoping to get up to Scotland soon.
Yep, spring in Scotland is lovely, when you get an east wind its usually drier in the west.
Was that a R NINE T courtesy bike? .... I was given the 310 GS.... A bit rubbish to be honest.
Yep, but the weather was atrocious. Absolutely freezing cold with icy patches everywhere so I didn’t go out and play on it.
