Hey it’s good to have you back! I assume the peg hunting has been as pitiful in Europe as it’s been here in FLA/USA! 🤨 It’s been a dry summer for sure. I continue to be impressed with the silver series lineups. They’re not perfect by any means but a clear step above mainlines and just below premiums. I Also LOVE the artwork, particularly for this tubular set. I was fortunate to quickly find 3 of the 5 and those are currently still hanging on the pegs at my Walmart. But I have had no luck locating the Toyota or the Blazer, so I guess I’m gonna have to hit eBay to complete the set. Anyway, thanks for sharing, keep up the great work and happy hunting! 👍

Nice to get a look at these, the quality level is really high but I think the cartoonishly large wheels are a bit too much. I agree real tyre manufacturer lettering would be preferable, and silver lettering is a bit rubbish, with the size of the wheels they look more like toys for kids rather than models for adult collectors to me. That's not a criticism, just an observation - I think the nostalgia factor is very high with these, I remember having toys like this, this era of trucks with this era of graphic design, when I was very young.

I like the Silver Series...especially with a metal base.

Don't know how you narrowed it down to just 8. For me it's the best case of 2024 so far. I skipped H so I include H with J. Also I'm for the variety. My favorite from this case was The Mercury Cougar Eliminator. The case was also full of Art cars. In particular Mailed It, King Kuda, Mod Rod and Speed Bump. Pagani Zonda and DeLorean were beautiful. DeLorean needs a major wheel swap. Duck N Roll, Mad Mike, Birthday Burner is awesome and fun. I'm Not the biggest JDM fan ,but I found the Mazda RX-7 very attractive. Hated the tooned RX-3 version ,and I found the Mitsubishi Pajero STH. Lucky me. Looks fantastic and my first spectra orange car. The bikes were ok. I prefer Ducatis. The other H cars were all bonuses for me so yeah that combo makes this my favorite case of 2024 so far.

Ugh, tooned cars, waste of zamac. The DeLorean is quite a nice car, but I don't understand why it's not clearcoated bare metal, the iconic DeLorean finish? The RX-7 livery is for Project μ (greek letter mu), a japanese brake manufacturer, and it's hard to make an ugly RX-7 (The Fast And The Furious managed, though). The Triumph is surprisingly good, glad they finally started doing bikes with riders. Nice Pajero, too, hope we get a dakar livery for that.

The issue is not what you think - it is not even that premiums are WAY overpriced compared to mainline in European markets (which is true), but in fact it's that Mattel is a monopoly and has no real competition. I lived until recently in Japan. In Japan HW have to compete with Tomica. Tomica have basic models that go for about ￥400 (€2.34) and premiums that are about ￥900 (€5.27) usually, and offer really good value - most basics have great paint, suspension and often have opening features like doors or removable roofs for convertibles etc., the trade off being that Tomica offer war fewer wheel variations. Tomica Premiums have similar features plus more paint/tampo detail and per-car reproductions of original wheels. To compete, HW are cheaper, usually about￥300-400 (€1.76 to €2.34) for mainline, less if you're lucky, and ￥800-900 (€4.69 to €5.27) for HW premium. Amazon.co.jp usually sell them a bit cheaper, e.g. right now the upcoming Boulevard Lamborghini Countach LPI800-4 is on preorder at￥880 - that's €5.16 at current exchange rates. I left before HW silver happened but the Bugatti in the vid I think went for about ￥500-600 (€2.93-3.52). Imagine paying €5 as standard for HW premiums (The less popular ones get discounted, e.g. I got a few for ￥595 and I once found a bin of unwanted F&F premium Jettas for ￥199 (€1.17) each!). (€3.49). We should be paying close to that, but because nobody competes with HW in the toy space...nope. The worst thing that ever happened for diecast collectors (outside Japan) is Mattel buying Matchbox. Their biggest competitor was forcibly sidelined and now they can charge what they like.

Well it's not only rubber tires but card art as well on premium in my opinion.

We race Hot Wheels with the grandkids...the Silver Line with metal bases are perfect.

I really like how cool the displays for hotwheels are... i don't like the lack of car details.. no side mirrors, no rear lights, no front lights or exhaust tips at times... i prefer mini gt now. ..i like your review style and your behind setup though 👌..

I’m digging the silver line sets. I understand can’t have rubber tires or they would be full premiums but I just wish they all had metal bases. I really want the Starlight from this set but that CRX is fire. Good haul. Thanks for sharing!

The blue 71 Nissan i like the colors. Not a fan of the tampons. The pink is one of the highlights of set. The Mazda is not best of the set. The 4runner is a great casting. I remember growing up seeing them alot.

So which brand 911 model has better scale & detail？ I just want to make a Porsches diecast wall, but I don't know should I choose mini gt or tarmac or hot wheels

Japanese symbols are called Kanji

I was pumped to pick this pack up the other day because so far it’s proven hard to find. I don’t want to crack it until I find another one because I think it’s gonna be a classic. Thanks for sharing and for the details on the Japanese words. You do more research than Lamley lol 😂

I can confirm, on the Skyline that's the kanji for Nissan (日産). You will very rarely see kanji or other Japanese script for Japanese car manufacturers as since WWII and the transition to being an export economy it is seen as very strange to not make car badges in roman script. As for the Honda I love that era of euro-model Civic but the color, eugh. Hope they put it out in a more normal colour. The Subaru is a nice model but not really representative of Japanese police cars, they do have this general black and white livery but the black is always solid, no white panels in the lower half at all, and numbering is found on the roof. You're right that the kanji says 'keishichou' which means 'metropolitan police' (i.e. Tokyo) but the roman script 'police' should be bigger and in white on the black part . If you want a Japanese police car that actually looks like what you might see in Japan, look for Tomica, they are usually realistic. The Mazda 3 is a great looking car if you ignore the 'basking shark' grille, the white is boring but realistic as it is by far the most common colour of car in Japan. I'd estimate more than half of all cars are white there. Where I used to live there was a Mazda 3 that lived nearby, it was this amazing metallic red. Mazda have some of the nicest paint among mainstream car manufacturers. The Toyota is pretty good although its a shame Matchbox only want to do front+back OR sides, the lack of definition on the front really hurts this model, and come on , white wheels look good on almost everything.

I'm currently on the hunt for all the Raijin Express versions. I have almost every single one, except the recent anniversary one(and the NFT which i honestly don't count).

Nice choices, including a couple I haven’t seen before. I love the Falken, LBW, HKS and Gulf. I might’ve chosen Advan or Spoon,too, but one of the best aspects of collecting is how certain castings and decos appeal to some people more than others. Keep up the great work!

We’ve had the same peg warmers here in FLA, the advan van and yenko stinger and the same two Porsches from that set - dozens hanging for weeks. The green 914 is a chase and I know I’ll never see one of those on the pegs lol. Haven’t seen any of the latest neon speeders set yet. They are definitely hit or miss with those wild decos but when they nail it they look really cool. Good haul this week. Thanks for sharing! 👍

10 - HKS 'oil slick' liveries always look awesome, I love the civic but it belongs on Japanese cars, not American pickups. The metal flake paint underneath really makes the design pop. 9 - I'm not a fan of Niconai Sclater's artwork (a.k.a. Ornamental Conifer); ideologically I get it, I just don't find it decorative or beautiful - Better on a canvas in a gallery than a car IMO - but the idea of collabs with artists is a great one. 8 - I love this casting but I don't really love the livery, I much prefer the green from the first release, although the mud splatters and brown tyres always improve a 4x4 model. 7 - The Mazda MX5 is a car that is important enough that every collector should have one, but not one I love. But this one is the version I decided to get to represent the car, I love how chaotic and individualistic it is. 6 - The Liberty Walk kits are sometimes not to my taste but this is everything good about the brand: an inspired, detail-aware blend of nostalgic and modern design sensibilities. This is a great one. 5 - I'm a big fan of the Datsun 510 although personally I prefer the saloon to the estate, but this Cherry blossom design (it's not peach) is really cool. I prefer the iridescent purple 2024 510 which matches the pale turquoise 2021 saloon's livery, though. 4 - Got to agree Falken livery looks fab. I've seen it a lot on older European or American cars from HW, but to me it's a very modern livery and doesn't fit with 60s or 70s muscle at all. The FD RX-7 is a perfect car for it. I don't go for the silver one as much, though. I like the B/W version, though that's specific to the Trueno, of course. 3 - Love the 'Godzilla on a Skyline' idea, both as a Godzilla fan (Godzilla x Kong excepted, that was really disappointing, I like Godzilla films to be _about_ something and have a _theme_ beyond 'monsters fight') and a Nissan fan. I love that calling the R32 racing car 'Godzilla' was an insult from Australans upset that it was dominating the local touring car championship but it's been totally reclaimed by fans of the car. As a customiser I gave mine a black bonnet with claw damage. 2 - Gulf livery is not that great IMO but that Porsche is my personal choice to represent it. 1 - This is no. 1? Really? meh. It's OK but I think the logo is not great, it's hard to work out whether it says 'Borla' or 'Borja' if you don't know the brand. But taste is always subjective. Some good picks ... but no Advan? The BEST livery in motorsport? The Advan Porsche 962 from the Premium 2-pack is one of my faves, but if you're avoiding premiums the old mainline Datsun 240 ZG Kaido House collab is up there too. No love for Audi sport either? or BMW M? Or Mitsubishi's RalliArt division? All are fantastic classic racing liveries well repped by HW.

Great selection, I subbed. 10- Limited grip isn't fantasy - it's based on a real world drift truck. The first version (black/red) that you have shares the real car's livery. 9- I was excited about the Group C Fantasy when I read the name until I saw photos and realised it has no wing, which seems a really obvious omission given that one of the defining features of these prototype endurance racer cars is their massive aero. I don't hate it but it disappointed me. 8- The food truck doesn't really do anything for me but it is well detailed. 7-The Dimachinni Veloce is my second favourite among HW fantasy cars, I adore it. 6- "Raijin", Japan's analog forr Thor, is pronounced with the first syllable the same as 'rise'; the red one you have displays the interesting Japanese characteristic of having the katakana writing on the right side read from right to left so that it always reads from the front to the back (it says Hot Wheels, or rather "Hotto Hoiiru" which is the best approximation Japanese can manage). I don't like this one for purely real world experience reasons - driving behind one of these at night is torture because the big flat tailgate is like a mirror. It looks cool and I appreciate the artistry and everything, but it's inherently dangerous and inconsiderate to others, so I have to say I'm not a fan of _dekotora_ culture. 5- The Coupe Clip (and the recent Porsche version) seem to get a lot of love from collectors but I don't get it. There are thousands of keyrings out there, including ones from Etsy sellers who buy HW models and screw them onto generic key rings. I expect actual models from HW, this is a waste of zamac IMO. 4- The El Segundo Coupé, on the other hand, I absolutely love. It's my favourite fantasy design they make, perfectly captures the sleek lines of 1960s sports cars; I can just see this competing with the Ferrari 250GTO or a Shelby Daytona. 3- The brick cars are not for me but they are cool ideas. I learned recently that Mattel own Mega Blocks, so presumably they are designed to mesh with them primarily but I'd guess they work with lego too - do you know? 2- Glory Chaser is my no.3. Personally I'd say it's a 1950s racer more than a 1960s one, in the vein of the Jaguar D-type or Aston Martin DBR1 or Mercedes-Benz 300SLR. I can almost see a lineage running from the Glory Chaser to the El Segundo Coupe to the Dimachinni Veloce, like they are styling evolutions over time of the same front/mid-engined sports car... 1- And Mighty K is my 4th favourite but I barely class it as fantasy, it's almost exactly the same as the Daihatsu Hijet S500P. Personally I'd have included the D.Vancenator, the Time Attaxi/Time Shifter, the Sand Burner, the Rally Cat and the Syd Mead--designed Sentinel 400. If you also collect Matchbox I'd be interested to see your top ten for them.
