Could it be that the plants, as all plants do, are sequestering the CO2 by breathing it in as part of the photosynthesis process. They breathe in CO2 and breathe out O2 as waste. They do not "sequester" the carbon into the ground.

While this is true, these algae blooms are extremely detrimental to their environments. It's killing wildlife and flora within the waters. The algae can even become toxic to people.

Well said! As someone who educates on Florida Mangroves I agree that mangroves are the perfect nature base solution. I wish you would talk more about how they are part of a community dependent on freshwater and saltwater ecosystems, and how they contribute to being a nursery for fish and other marine life.

I can concur about the relaxation aspect of scuba diving. I've been certified for 40 years now and was an instructor for 15. I work in High Tech, which is stressful. Diving is a release from that. People I work with notice my attitude is more relaxed after a weekend of diving. There is nothing like floating in the ocean and just kicking back.

I applaud the Everglades Foundation for their support of the 5th edition of the Everglades Handbook as well as their support of increasing the flow of clean water to the South. This a very worthwhile goal that is only possible if the SFWMD and the USACE address the elephant in the room, i.e. the phosphorus entering Lake O. and the legacy phosphorus at the bottom of Lake O.
