In todays episode we head to Montana in search of a combine. We look at a Massey 8570 at auction. This is I believe the first rotary combine built by Massey which they actually acquired from White. Pretty awesome machine. Should we buy it?
Farm Shop/ Budget Barndominium Tour - Full RV Hookups
Переглядів 5578 місяців тому
In todays episode we do a tour of our farm shop/budget barndominium that we have been living in the last couple years. We included plumbing for full RV hookups. We first lived in the shop in our fifth wheel trailer and slowly added amenities like a shop sink, washer/dryer, power (we first had to run a long extension cord to the temp power), and water via a well (we hauled water for about 6 mont...

What is the radio called
Its a local country station 92.5
Fix it. I’m always looking for a deal like you got!
Looking at this guy now. Thanks a lot.
I run their 0W20 In my 2023 Impreza. It's half the price of name brand but the same (or sometimes better) quality. I think it even outperformed Mobil 1 in one test.
"Been able to do any more work on the 5288?
I actually decided to sell it when I bought the 7800. It went to a good home he has done a lot of work to it.
Nice find!! I would have moved it quick, get the stem up. Calcium is expensive anymore! We've got a '62 4010 Wheatland with an F11. All it does is load and feed big bales. Had a '63 4010 rowcrop in the '70s. Im sure the 3 point was removed for the loader and so you could get on it from the back..
Looks pretty good 👍
Id love to update to a 2170 or 2290. Would like a 3x4, but we've run 4x4 for 25+ years.
You'll regret not getting air seat never be cheap on a seat
If I was farming full time maybe or doing a lot of tilling on rough ground. I think it will work just fine for my purposes. Didn’t want to buy a $1000 seat for an $8k tractor.
@@selfmadefarmer2020we've got used truck seat bases in 94 series, kept the swivel seats. Put self contained base in the 5288, with original seat on it. I think we're $400 into the self contained base. It's way better than the original hydraulic suspension and doesn't make a mess!
What is a self contained base?
@@selfmadefarmer2020 air ride with the compressor already in it. We actually got it from the Case -IH dealer.
How are you liking the mt7 any updates or videos working the tractor?
Still really enjoying it! Up to almost 250 hours need to do a video.
Look at one lonely farmers videos, OLF, he had a Hesston baler for a while and pretty much rebuilt it. You could probably learn a few things from him.
Ya I’ve seen a few of his videos for sure thanks for the recommendation.
Wes knows his way around 4900s I know way too much about them! We've got one, 60k on it. Worst thing is, there's not many parts available now. We replaced stuffer springs 2 years ago, got the last one in AGCOs system and the last one in C-NH s system. Had hydraulic tension issues last year, was lucky enough to find someone that had the last parts for that.. and load bars are no longer available, we've run 2 years on just one.
Love that tractor. Great that you got a good deal on it. I think I was 5 years old when we got our 3288 brand new. It was a great tractor - did all our plowing, disking, and ran our 781 harvester.
That's awesome!
These are great tractors; keep the updates coming. I have two of them.
Thanks, will do!
The metal might buff out. Remember this is one of the last true Internationals. This tractor is special.
Consider spraying the cab inside with rhino liner before adding the new cab kit.
I might do exactly that!
Congratulations buddy!
Thank you sir!
Good simple combines , do a great job , yes walker combines will be better for straw, but I've baled behind ours and you can't tell too much difference until the straw gets real dry then it chews it up worst
If you are into making straw, and you are used to a walker machine, you won’t be happy with the straw out of a rotor combine.
Hate comm just to hate
Well thank you!
I think all the store brand oil is from Warren. Good quality. Exceeds all manufacturer requirements. 🤠
how is the IH 88 series tractor coming along?
Just added a new video!
Nothing wrong with it. Good oil.
That IH was I nice machine when it was parked there probably 8 plus years ago. What a shame to see it in this condition. Judging by the depth the machine has sunk it could have even been parked there longer.
It definitely has been there quite a while. You from that area?
The MF combine looks like it’s been taken care of and most probably a one owner.
I was quite impressed with the shape it is in.
On the massey Chris losely has one similar. On case ih Thomas farms has similar. They both are here on the tube
I’ve followed Chris I’ll have to look up Thomas Farms. Thank you!
Little bit of work to it and you will have a good cheap tractor.
I agree! Can’t wait to get it in the field.
That’s great stuff
its from warren distribution, which is where amazon basics, Costco, and many others comes from. there are better quality oils, but its not the worst thing you can use.
That is what I read as well. For my old tractors I think it is plenty good.
raise your throttle to start
looking forward to your rebuild/repairs on the 5288
Makes a place to live when wife is 😡 lol . Thanks for the tour! Enjoyed watching
You got that right!
Thats handy to have in the shop
Thats cool tractor i like them styles
I remember those old projection carts , also what you do with that older john deere tractor, did you sell or going to keep it
I still have it. Most likely I’ll sell it in the next couple months.
Triple R Tractors has pretty much everything you'll need for this. 80% of the cab is the same as an 86 series, including that bent fender, which were much more common. However, the window you need is slightly different. I restored a 1086 last winter and it was pretty easy to do the cab. The shifter setup on those 88s is much nicer than the 86s. Depending how deep you want to get, the cab lifts off with only a few bolts. The Sentry units were the usual sources of trouble. If you get sick of it let me know and I'll give it a good home in NY 😉
Thanks for the info!
Not going to start with your throttle in the off position.
They start better when you push the throttle handle up to the L cut out!
You caught that, too. I made the same comment and didn't see yours
She’ll buff with a little love. It will be a great tractor on the bailer.
I agree!
It’ll work just fine! Generic like , Tylenol verses dg health acetaminophen. Keep us updated on this ,if you would!
I agree! Hopefully there will be nothing to report haha
Makes me sick to see such a fine tractor finish in this condition. I was at the dealership when the first of these arrived at the dealer.
It is frustrating, but I’ll breathe some new life into her.

Thank you!
@@selfmadefarmer2020 your welcome
You forgot to tell us to make sure the park brake lever on the left side is in the down position to shift. I bought a 5488 mid December 2023. In central ND. It is hard to get into gear if not warmed up and then it is not quite right. I think it may be out of adjustment or worn linkage. It shifts ok with the engine off. Read the instructions carefully if you are going to change the Hydraulic filters. One spin on is easy but the two others cartridge filters Fleet Guard number 6054 there is a bolt or cap screw to turn out on the lower left side of the back filter so you will only drain a gallon or two of oil. Don't ask how I know
Thanks for the heads up!
Bird's nests seem to be a problem for the 5288 . A local one burned after a bird's-nest was on exhaust manifold and we removed a nest almost every time we go to start ours
I’ll keep an eye out for that.
In the last year we got a 54, 52 and a 5088 all 2 wheel drive and all three have tilt wheel. Probably going to flip a few of them
You have the whole set!
All States ag has replacement windows, reasonable prices. First hand experience, don't ask, lol. We have a 52 and 54, good running tractors.
I’ll look them up!
we were going to buy a 5288 in 1993 dealership brought it over for me to test sticker price $18k i put it on the jd3800 chopper w/1000pto i liked the engine hp responsive steering because of weights engine never got hot no matter how hard i pushed it power shifting during chopping corn a must absolutely beautiful tractor looked factory new inside/out think it had 3000hrs but dad did'nt like the 42" wheels said any tractor with tires that big in our rocky clay transmission would be junk 1 season ended up buying awful 1370case with 8700hrs $14k 10yr loan 12% interest nothing but problems $45k in repairs all the years we had it always in a shop not here one could make an argument that case drove our farm out of business. when you have a mortgage bank owns everything and all their everything has to be in working running condition or its violation of loan agreement whether one can afford repairs or not decisions make/break a farmer
Ya those old case looked cool but they are not great. Ask me how I know haha
Mechanically and electronically it's strong, just needs a window and clean cab and some repairs on upholstery
Yes thankfully it will be an easy fix
Farmhand loaders were great. Only thing that they’re missing is down pressure but other than that they’re great. Had one on a Cockshutt 40 for years. We stacked loose hay with it can’t beat them for that.
Heard good things, I had to take it off to fix a tire. Not sure I’ll put it back on.
We had the internationals in the 70s and early 80s and next thing you know they were case international, guessing its a 1981 model, we had a around 1976 international 1086 with the turbo
Close it is an 82!
