"Classic Hersey bar wing" pans the the ling tapered wing lol
How does it compare to Australia own GA8 AirVan?
I would love it if the claim were true - former 1979 Tiger owner here - but the Columbia 400 / Cessna TTX is actually the fastest GA fixed gear certified airplane, and can go WAYYY faster than a Tiger. Diamond DA-40 is four seats, and faster too at about 145 KIAS. My RV-7 is also faster, but only has two seats. Tiger is a SUPERB airplane, and ideal for any private pilot looking to transition from training Cessnas, and its faster than comparable Cessnas or Pipers, handles better, easier/cheaper to maintain and just plain cooler. But it isn't 'the fastest'! P.S. You didn't mention the fact that the rear seat backs pull out and fold down, to do an 'SUV' like deck for cargo in the back! Can't do that in a Cessna!
ALL SARATOGAS ARE NOT RG…..
Don’t forget the FIXED gear Saratoga. Nearly as fast, much lower mx, insurance costs.
all incorrect. Stretching is a key factor in limiting injury and strengthening the body, there are strength stretching exercises the Chinese have been doing for thousands of years.
What an aussie accent 😂 great airframe!
Great job!
Did my CPL flt test in a1977 Lance. Since then flown C6 & Saratogas, C235, & Dakota, Navajo & Aerostars 600/601, love those Lyc 6 cyl. Also flown 210s, 206s, 182s too. I prefer Pipers!
The music adds nothing but a distraction.
I have owned 3 Turbo Lance aircraft. Fantastic aircraft. Flys like a truck but also carries like a truck. I had speed mods and intercooler mod on 2 of them and easily cruised at 175 knots in cooler temps at 10k but I usually fly at 155 to 160 knots to save fuel and be nicer to the motor. They are also the quietest single engine piston aircraft I have ever flown by a lot.
My husband has a Tiger. I love the plane. Even as a passenger I can tell it is very responsive and fun to fly. When we had a dog we used to put her in the back and hte baggage door was big enough to easily get her in it. And yeah as a short person I love the view from the front (I can't see over a cessna's cockpit or barely can). You get a very good view all around. We made a Mooney owner boggle cause with some of the upgrades my husband has done it was faster than that guy's mooney (older mooneys, newer ones still will be faster. But not bad for a fixed gear plane seeing as Mooney's are built for speed and retractable. And the cockpit is wider and less narrow meaning we sacrifice less comfort for it).
Owned Turbo for 23 years Love it Highly modified by stc Intercooler a must Like any plane must know how to fly it
J. U. N. K
Wrong on the G load, it’s six positive three negative.
That Cessna on floats was a 150 not a 152
Love the plane and education, but the background noise/sound/"music"? Is unbearably.
I never flown an aircraft like that before the aircraft I only flown was an airbus something something in 2014 when I was 13 years old and helicopter tours in St. Louis, the turbo Roberson turbo prop whatever it’s called. But nothing else because I don’t have enough money even though I train myself on flight simulator X I know how to fly this aircraft.
The 152 Aerobat wasn't the only aerobatic plane Cessna built. The T-37 was pretty darned aerobatic.
My flight training was in a 150 with a 150stc. It was used as a glider tow plane. My CFI wouldn't allow me to give it full throttle, said it was cheating. When I soloed he asked me how it flew. I told him without his fat ass in it it was a completely different airplane.
I’ve owned mine since 1999. It’s a magnificent airplane. About to upgrade avionics again from the Garmin 530 panel to all glass. The engine in the TR182 is the best engine ever put into any airplane. The landing gear is the most bulletproof retractable gear in any airplane. It loves long trips up high cruising at 160 knots as much as weekend burger runs. Super comfortable and efficient.
I crew chiefed this plane in Nam.
How is it that this Hawk XP is a MS-2020 mod? Same tail # 👍
Little tab under the right wing is more than likely a switch to turn on and off the Hobbs Meter at a pre determined speed like 100 knots The tab on the aileron is a fixed trim tab used for rigging the roll tendencies out I believe
Yesterday was Clyde Cessna's birthday. It should be a bigger deal.
In the 60's and 70's during the Vietnam War the Military would fly remains of servicemen into Andrews AF near Washington DC and they would be transported as needed across the Eastern US many times by small private plane carriers if the destination was smaller towns and villages. A company was founded called Somerset Air Hearse that was one of those small carriers contracted by the Government. This company lasted well into the 80's transporting living patients and those that may have passed on remote from their hometowns. My flight instructor was a pilot for them and I often accompanied him on "missions" to gain flight time and experience sitting in the right seat. One of their planes was a Cherokee Six and as explained the advantage being you could easily load the plane with shipping or regular casket with the remains. I remember a trip fondly where we flew to Albany NY then to LaGuardia and then back to Somerset. We flew down the East River at 1400 feet passing right over the Statue of Liberty at dusk. You could see the lights all over the place as well as up and down the coast of NJ. Into NJ we got into a squall line and my head was bouncing off the roof of the cockpit due to turbulence as I wondered if something bad happened how they would tell the difference between the "pilots" and passenger. Though a beginning pilot I found the Cherokee Six easy to fly but much heavier on the controls than I was used to in a Grumman Tiger my primary trainer.
first..the gear is reliable as any well looked after in any other aircraft...second it's a sweet 4 place cross country plane without paying a premium for six seats with the same useful load ...as a alternative if the gear down and welded is your thing consider a King Kamai 182 with the 300 hp Continental IO-550 ..pretty much the same performance and you can add bush tires to make it a decent back country camping/family plane
Any kid who grew up playing MSFS in the 90s…this was one of the first GA aircraft they became intimately familiar with. And of course, the Lear 35A was THE business jet…along with the Sopwith Camel being the quintessential WW1 biplane…
I love the 182rg on msfs2020. I can max payload and fuel and it still climbs out!
When I got back into flying again, I wanted to buy a 182RG. I was renting one at an FBO/flight school getting back up to speed. One day I came in and the RG was down for maintenance. I asked what the problem was and was told the actuators needed replacing. I then asked how much are those? 10K each was the answer.... At that time I decided to buy a fixed gear Skylane. Been very happy ever since....
Ouch, those actuators are not cheap!
Most 182RG's have been in service for 40+yrs with only routine landing gear maintenance. One 30yr owner in our area confirms the same - never done a repair or Service Bulletin. Our 1978 (& most) have original actuators and powerpack has never been overhauled, and continues to checkout as healthy. Performing nose landing gear SEB95-20, and main landing gear SNL86-49 Service Bulletins help protect from ever needing to replace actuators. Issue is most Owners/Operators perform neither SB and even so gear system reliability is excellent.
Please take your foot/boot of the flap...
Lol
This with the turbo normalized engine would be just *chef's kiss*
oooo yeah!
The fact is the parent company of Cessna is also the parent of Lycoming so the nose gear space idea is a bit of a stretch. When you compare the speed advantage of the RG and offset the costs of maintenance on the fixed gear, unless you’re absolutely anal about a few knots, it’s not worth the difference. As Bill Lear said,”If it ain’t on the airplane, you don’t have to fix it.” Older pilots will also find insurance costs skyrocketing with the complexity of retractable gear once they pass seventy years of age.
These were two separate companies when this aircraft was built. Continental engines is in Wichita and so is Cessna... There's probably some truth to the story for the two neighbors to end their many years and many models with continental engines
nice cool video. good elaboration. I have flown RG for 15 hours
Glad you liked it!
Nice video
Thanks for watching!
Certainly enjoyed flying her 3.2 hours when getting my CSU and RG endo almost 12 months ago Michael. Hanging out for some more 182 time!!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the comment Dave!
Great review. My Comanche has the O-540 which gives us 250 hp. I do agree that the 182 is just about the best all round airplane for the value. And while the RG definitely gives you more speed, those gear are janky at best. I would almost prefer the fixed gear 210, without the strut. You get the power and the speed and what amazing views.
Depends where you're landing really. You have to really want the extra speed to justify the extra maintenance cost. Personally I'd have a 182R
fixed gear 210?
Most of my limitied time from the Dreamtime is in 182"s and I absolutely love them. Do have a 210 endorsement again from the Dreamtime but the 182 is my all time favourite, can't beat the 40 degree's of flap depnding on load, but I never flew heavy. Took an old banger from Adelaide to Hamilton, hood lining hanging down, but had new engine and it went like a rocket. I think from memory stall was about 40 kts full flap. Once you have flown 6 cylinders you never go back, so much power and so smooth and yes you are right about carbie icing.
Beautiful plane hey. So often the story, all the money spent on the engine and nothing cosmetically! Well better that than the other way around...
The 182 is one of my favourite GA aircraft to fly, I'd love to experience flying a 182RG, awesome looking aircraft and great video mate!
It really is a great machine. Thanks for watching!
Flew the 172 RG and the 210 I’m sure this fills the gap.
Yep its much better than the 'ol gutless cutlass
Looks like a nice plane.
She's had some money spent on her!
Issues sourcing replacement parts for the gear. 1200 produced. Great plane.
No doubt!
STC = Supplemental type certificate
Ah good point!
Great video mate. The RG182 is my personal favourite too. It definitely doesn’t really like rough strips with those little tyres, but that would be the only complaint. A great machine
Good point, you could do a lot better for rough strips
@@DeadstickAdventuresstill, a small price to pay for a great aircraft
Would love a 182 in any form! 😂 if anyone wants to give one away let me know 😂
Me too!
Partnered in a 68 182L, with the places i’ve gone and the loads I’ve carried, I’d never leave a stiff leg 182 for a retract. Ever. Ultimate rough field GA aircraft.
I can't argue with that, fixed gear has its place.
Eeeeh surely one of the most boring aircraft to fly......And your never to high in one.....fly a stable approach !
Boring?! No way
how to tell people you've never flown one without actually saying so
Great video. I felt the elevator on a normal 182 and found it quite heavy. Sydney Flight Training at YSBK has one of these as a training aircraft. Did you know that the Lightspeed Delta Zulu headset has a carbon monoxide sensor ? Great idea. Thanks
Thanks for watching, yeah the controls are quite heavy on them! Did not know that about the Lightspeeds, sounds like a great feature.
A bit rare here in Aus though...
Indeed!
Love the Archer II. Great ground effect, sexy performance, great accommodation. Did my first solo in one back in the mid-80's. Would own one if I could.
They're definitely a lot of fun to fly!
