Speech Language Pathology / The Vocal Cords in Action
In the book this is revealed so casually, just in a little paragraph. I remember exactly what the page looked like because it absolutely shattered me. 😭
I made my husband, then boyfriend, watch this with me years ago. I am 95 percent certain that’s why we are married now lol
Briony is one of film's most evil characters. And, no, writing a fantasy novel about what might have been, does not make up for her sins.
The Brits do like their sentimentality, damn.
"when she says that she gave them their happiness" it's what she's trying to make peace with her conscience by saying that. Ofc their happiness was not her's to give , but she's dying and she has to ease off that burden 🥹
I've never watched the movie but watching this scene is making me cry
Imagine what my sister would do to me if she makes a lie to me and my boyfriend just like that to ruin people's lives and never want to get them back where they started. I would feel the same way for blaming Briony.
People are angrier at Briony than they are at Paul Marshall, so maybe keep your hypocrisy in check before casting judgement on her.
😮
Ahaha esto es tan difícil
Briony is the true villain; she lied and destroyed, not one but three lives, including her own cousin. Cecilia and Robbie never got their happy ending and were kept apart and could only be reunited in death because of her childish lie. Briony didn't deserve any peace or "atonement." She had no spine to apologize or confess about who truly did the crime. I don't think I've ever been more disgusted by a character in a book.
Paul Marshall is the villain. Did we even watch the same movie?
@@DeepScreenAnalysis He's the villain but what Briony did was as evil. Hell, Lola technically didn't say shit.
This was a joke of an ending, and this lady (character) deserves to literally fucking die. You could write they won the lottery 56 times in fiction, it wouldn't matter. Shes a fucking coward, and this ending to her - it's simply cope and fan service to herself, not for the "reader" . We all know where she was going.
A student's somewhat badly qualified opinion: Briony is a piece of shit

Die Aufgaben in Englisch Büchern waren auch schonmal besser
A teacher's somewhat badly qualified opinion: I had the pleasure to teach the novel to my Year 12 students (English for advanced learners, Germany). It is teachable. My students have done their best with the plot, Dunkirk, the couples, forgiving etc... What I am missing is an idea concerning 'Being British'. That's what I am supposed to discuss in class. But it seems to me that Atonement's characters and Briony's bullshit are hard to use her. I should know (20th century values, women's role, social pressure) better but I really can not deal with Briony. That woman is interested in herself and herself only. She gives a crap on what she had done to her sister and partner. She wrote the ending in a way to please her idea. To be honest, I find the historial background (WW 2, Dunkirk) to be the more interesting aspect of Atonement than the dinner parties or nursery training details the fictional and actual authors have described.

ONE OF THE HEARTBREAKING STORY LINE EVER !!
helo im unda da wata
Briony : lied and caused the separation Also Briony : "I gave them the happiness"
This look like a Interview.
What I find interesting is that she supposedly is facing atonement for her lies. Yet, she lies again to her readers. They never had a happy ending because she lied and yet again she hasn’t learned anything cause she lies to everyone about the truth of this book she wrote.
Every time this video shows up for me I find myself captivated by her monologue and I keep repeating the lines after Vanessa.
God forgive me but I hate her because of what she did
When I saw this in 2007 it upset me for months. 😢
I have not seen the movie, nor red the book, but looked up what she did. At 13, you know what a lie is, but let's say she is underdeveloped, what stopped her from saying at 15, 18? 20? 25? Why wait until you are in the gates of death to tell the truth? You are a coward and a bad person
From a very cold person this realy breaks you.
Truly a movie you can only see once, my heartaches even just thinking of this movie.
I love this movie, this is really one of the most poignant end's ever 👍
what a fucked up story
Props to Briony for keeping the same hairstyle throughout her whole life. My indecisive ass could never.
She's wearing the same necklace from the ill-fated night of the dinner party.
She was thirteen...a teenager (just)! She righted her wrong under the only circumstances she could! The hate should be at the child rapist...who then went on to marry his victim, that's totally sick!
I saw the movie about 15 years ago and although I think it's an absolute masterpiece, so far I have never been able to bring myself to watch it again. I think it's the saddest movie I have ever seen.
So true
The novel is annoying. Ian McEwan telling the critics that they do not understand what he is doing. Get bent.
could you like, shut up? 🤣
A super actress, and a super acting in this scene, The best movie, specially this part breaks You inn.
vanessa redgrave is such a GOAT. an unbroken 5 min monologue that ties the entire movie together. i watched this when i was a kid with some friends and we were horsing around, laughing at the sex scenes, not paying attn, making fun of the movie for being disjointed and confusing and slow. then this scene happened and we were just sitting there in riveted silence as it all snapped together. stunning movie.
It just hits you especially how her sister and Robbie died 😭
Vanessa Redgrave is amazing!
When I first watched this I was shocked by the cut to the present day. It’s so jarring in the best way. And what a plot twist! Gotta be one of the most devastating twists of all time. It makes you question literally every scene involving Briony because it exposes her as an unreliable narrator, despite her good intentions at the end of her life. This film is a knockout.
To the many who want to lynch Briony here I highly recommend the novel which has a more richly nuanced ending 😂
No la entendí....Quien era ese hombre? 😳

This scene i crying out loud 😭 When I watched first time
I really like the end, because she is shown as a Karen and that was the way I thought of her during I watched the film. I don’t like her, the way she smiles or talks.
